Hi, I recently built a new PC, everything is running great except for the fact I’m getting a BSOD crash after a random amount of playing time. I first ran into this problem with an EVGA Geforce GTX 650 Ti Boost, however the problem with that card was a black screen on the game itself. I recently upgraded my card to an ASUS Raedon HD 7870 2.0GB ankitten ow experience BSOD crashes ONLY when running GW2.

Here are my system specs:
Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601) Service Pack 1 (7601.win7sp1_gdr.130318-1533)
Language: English (Regional Setting: English)
System Manufacturer: MSI
System Model: MS-7693
BIOS: BIOS Date: 03/15/13 09:19:43 Ver: 04.06.05
Processor: AMD FX™-8350 Eight-Core Processor (8 CPUs), ~4.0GHz
Memory: 8192MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 8142MB RAM
Page File: 1770MB used, 14510MB available
Windows Dir: C:\Windows
DirectX Version: DirectX 11
DX Setup Parameters: Not found
User DPI Setting: Using System DPI
System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent)
DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled
Card name: (ASUS) AMD Radeon HD 7870

I have looked on countless online threads looking for a solution to the problem and only found temporary solutions. I don’t know where else to look, I really need some help guys.

List of things I have already tried:
Uninstalled all drivers, booted in safemode and cleared with Driver Sweeper.
Installed both current, past, and beta drivers to no avail.
Underclocked GPU and RAM (Currently nothing is overclocked, so that is not an issue).
Replaced old GPU with new one (See above)
Ran DxDiag (no errors)
Analyzed BSOD crash log (error with atimdag.sys [supposedly])
Ran NCSoft Gama Analyzer

If it helps, the BSOD stop code was: 0xA0000001 (and then a bunch of 0×00000′s)

Please help me fix this problem, it’s really disappointing because GW2 is the main game I play atm, it as of right now it’s worthless on this brand new PC…

Here are the files (Change the minidump file extensions from .txt to .dmp if need be):

You might want to consider that your memory is faulty. You can try to run a diagnostic on it, but since you have enough, if you are running 2 – 4 gb sticks, take one out and test the game, then swap. See if you still get this crash.

I know you just built it, but it’s worth looking into.

See how you go and post back.

Hmm, funny you mention it now, I literally JUST ran a windows memory diagnostic right before looking at this post. First time I ran it it gave me a hardware error, so I moved the two sticks to a different slot, ran the test again and it didn’t give me any errors, went to test it ingame, no BSOD but I got a strange black screen that allowed absolutely no input, which was a new error. I’ll definitely remove one stick and report back.

Glad you found one issue, we may be able to work with the next if mem comes back clean.

Just tested 1 stick, was working fine until the screen froze, flashed white a couple times, and after about 30s went back to normal. Also a new error… Hmm. I’ll test out the other stick.

Any new updates? If so, post your updated log with the new crashes.

Thank you so much. Removed the one that was giving me white screens and I haven’t had a problem since (knock on wood). I will definitely be looking into getting some new RAM sticks, any recommendations?

I personally do not (haven’t built a pc in some time), but there are a few great techy peeps on this forum who might, hopefully they see this and could recommend something. Sorry, I’m not useful in that department.

However, I’m glad you have made some progress to culling those crashes/issues. Please post back if anything else crops up.

Ok, I got a minor crash this time while returning to the game after alt+tabbing, nothing as serious as the others. I took out this specific crash from the ArenaNet.log just because the other errors are not relevant.

Here is the log:

probably usual Patchday Error. The game couldn’t find effects it wanted to play.

Well for RAM definately buy Twice the same module. or better just one with enough capacity if you can afford it. (8GB on one module should be around 60$).

Hope i could help a bit.
