Black screen issue (AMD)
Have you checked our CPU and GPU temps yet?
This is a great program if you don’t have one already, post a screenshot of this after running the game for 10 mins or before the black screen if possible:
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Also, check your event viewer in windows and see if there are any graphics or driver events listed.
Lastly, you can try turning reflections down to none, if you haven’t already.
Looking forward to seeing your temps and hearing back from you.
It’s not a problem with my CPU and GPU temps, it didn’t overheat before i started getting these black screens and it isn’t overheating now…
to add to the list of things I’ve tried:
Port forwarding
turning reflections to 0
disabling firewall
disabling antivirus
Feels like nothing works, and i have no idea what the problem is
There are quite a few threads mentioning the black screen issue. Sometimes GW2 stops responding, sometimes the video driver recovers itself and the game continues but at lowered FPS until the next map load. It’s been a lot more common in the past game update or two so I don’t think all these people are suddenly having overheat problems. I think it is something that needs to be fixed in GW2. Personally my game was running great since launch, and only recently starting showing the black screen issue. My system temps are good, and I don’t see this problem in other games. When the black screen happens, I see an event in the Windows event viewer saying the video driver stopped and then recovered.
Bottom line is you’re not alone. This really appears to be a game bug, and a lot of people are impacted.
Hopefully it is fixed in the next patch, It’s quite irritating to play like this and I’ve given up trying to find more solutions.
This was listed in another thread. I tried it and didn’t see a black screen today. I’ll keep testing to see if it is a good workaround.
In the game options:
1. Change “Refresh Rate” to “60 Hz.”
2. Change “Frame Limiter” to “60.”
3. Change “Reflections” to “None.”
4. Change “Render Sampling” to “Supersample” then back to “Native.”
5. Enable “Vertical Sync” at the bottom.
Black screened after around 30 minutes, thanks for trying though Did you see another black screen after posting?
I didn’t see a black screen all day yesterday so I thought it was working well. Then today I saw a black screen. Guess that workaround didn’t work after all.
Like you I’ve tried just about everything. I’m getting tired of trying so many things. I hope the GW2 team is able to fix this issue soon.

Perhaps opening a ticket with ArenaNet support would be wise. You can get suggestions from them as well as the community at the same time.
I’m not really sure what else to check besides making sure your power supply is supplying adequate power.

Whats happening with this issue, is there a fix your not posting here? It’s been 7 months since this thread was opened and there must be a fix by now. I opened up a new thread in the hope that someone can help. I really want to take part in the new LA event, for longer than 10 minutes at a time. My new thread is here.
