CPU Bound
It is not gonna change at least not for 2 or 3 years, so u can upgrade to a more powerfull CPU or go play a properlly optmized game like Tera i guess

Unfortunately I’m unemployed so I can’t really upgrade my CPU. This shouldn’t have been the case in the first place to be honest
U can still try tera for now, it is free to play. Untill u get the money to upgrade or they fix the game.
it wont be chanigng anytime soon. its to big a overhaul to change it.
Try out other games if u cant put up with poor performance. ‘Tera’ i FTP now and if u also like Action RPG’s (like ‘Diablo’) then ‘Path of Exile’ is now in open beta and is, imo and many others, ALOT better than ‘Diablo 3’. it will be FTP when it goes live.
Nether game is pay to win.

But I want to play GW2 Oh well I’ll just deal with the crappy fps in X area till they fix it. (if they fix it)
A google search on ‘guild wars 2 performance issues’ shows that the issues you are facing were noted up to 6mo’s before release (while in beta) and here we are nearly 1yr later.
If you play many PC games at all you undoubtedly realized that for the majority of the titles (this one included) the “minimum hardware” listed will only allow you to install and run the game – however the results are more than likely unplayable.
The chances of GW2 “performance issues” getting fixed at this point is slim to none.
For older hardware there are many many quality (older) titles that are ether F2P or very cheap on Steam.
I cut my gaming teeth on Adventure&ZorkI,II,III.

Aion – even old Pheon x2/4 can handle game in massive sieges at 40-50 FPS.
WoW – Old athlons handle game at 60 fps in big open world fights. You barely see any FPS spikes.
Tera – another good optimized game.
Rift – No Issues at all with engine.
I could go on and go ON.
What all these games have in common ? That they are based on newer DX engine wchich allows CPUS to use more cores and make that efficent use.
GW2 uses 1 main thread and if it’s full ( working 100% ) You feel Spikes and lags.
It’s bad engine and overall code utilization which no other game ( MMO ) is facing nowdays.
Anet tried to save up some money so they released broken game. Instead of fixing engine first ( 4month after release and still nothing. To fullyenjoy game you need i5 for almost 250$. ) they go some minor glitches fixes and put out new events/small xpacks while still game is badly broken.
Indeed i played tera before GW2 and performance was just on a different league. If u are experiencing performnce issues in GW2 with a decent spec i recomend u to try out tera, since it is free now and it will run smooth. If u have high end CPU GW2 is fine, u will still experience crap performance but it is tolerable.

actually gw2 has 3 main heavy threads that if any one of the 3 stall out even for an instant the whole game kittens up.
most modern engines are based on older ones, WoW’s engine is based on the warcraft3 engine and look how well its been expanded to take advantage of multicore chips and dx11…..
the problem isnt reusing the engine its that they did a kitten poor job doing it.
1. the game seems to have been designed with the intent of porting it to the xbox360, hence the use of 3 main threads(360 has a tricore cpu) and dx9(360 and ps3 use dx9 level gfx chips)
2. somebody saw $.$ at the idea of selling the game to XP users whos systems really cant run this game worth a kitten…….
greed and stupidity seems to have won the day…..
I think eventually anet will fix it one way or another, till then i will play it once a week and play tera most nights, as well as playing warframe most nights, and firefall i will play as they get its threading issues worked out(thats what part of their dev teams focused on now)
I love so much about gw2, i just get very tired of the poor perf…..specially when other games that look as good or better FLY on my system.

GW2 performed poorly 6mo before release and now many months after release has not changed.
Don’t hold your breath.

GW2 performs way better for me now compared to the time before the nvidia v306.97 driver was released. on both my low-end and “good” system.
around twice as fast now…and a-net recently fixed some framerate-impacting areas like the bandit-cave in queensdale and constantly working of getting an overall better performance.
i’m not saying that i’m fine about this situation, which affects ALL games nowadays…ironic, huh? so much awesome games…but they are all released with major flaws which needs tons of patches to be fixed, but at least i can still hope.
and to get this straight…you’re all suggesting OP, that he should play mmo’s, other than GW2 (at the GW2 forums), instead of helping him to tweak here and there to get the game to run to an playable and enjoyable state?
now i know why a laughed when reading the “GW2 Community” page at the “making of: GW2” book.
anyways, here are some tips:
keep in mind, i don’t know your specs, so these are common tweaks i would apply.
- turn off windows visuals while launching GW2.
- close every unnecessary program before launching GW2. there’s a tool which does both for you, called “GameBooster”. works okay on PC’s with olf components, but it’s not necessary on newer PC’s.
- keep your components drivers/system up-to-date.
- set your graphic options at your graphic card’s control panel to max performance. (i don’t know which GPU you own, so find out yourself how to do it – don’t worry, if you mess something up there, you can set every option back to standart settings easily)
- turn off reflections, lower shaders and shadows. reflections in GW2 are so awesome, even high-end PC’s can’t handle them. also, sh<adows should never be at “ultra”, does not only impacts your framerate, it also causes stuttering on camera movement.
- you should try out to set rendersampling to “subsample”. maybe you are satifsfied with the quality.
- overclock your CPU. there are more than enough tutorials out there for each specific model, however, DO NOT attempt anything regarding overclocking, unless you got enough knowledge and only if you are 100% aware of the risks. every good tutorial should come with in-depht explanations of all the values you are messing with.
- make sure that your system-partition (aka “C:\”) and the system itself is clean. that covers the partition to be below ~70% usage, defragmented, free of malware, free of read/write errors, free of useless programs and free of useless registry entries (if you attempt to clean your registry, do it with a tool which got a backup feature!)
-turn off unnused windows features at “programs&features”. for example: if you’re using chrome or firefox, you can disable IE, or if you don’t own a printer, you can disable all printer features.
well, that’s all common tweaks i know.
i hope you will be able to play GW2 at an enjoyable state soon.
you might consider a new mobo/CPU, tho, unless you’re satisfied with your PC in general.

Optimization is terrible, and everyone including the devs know this. Hopefully it gets fixed, but who knows…?
