Can GTX 670 run MAX setting in WvW?
No.
WvWvW is limited in fps by the CPU .and no CPU currently out even at 5ghz can run WvWvW battles at max fps. This is down to the game engine.
You can see my rig ..it uses a 560ti ..i get 50 fps with a battle of 30 people(which isnt alot, some WvWvW can get 70 or more people together) smashing down a gate and my GPU was only running at 60% ..so your GPU is overkill for WvWvW.
Your CPU will need to be OC’d ..i sugest 4.5ghz if your cooler can handle it ..if not ..4ghz minimum. This will help you in WvWvW. But FPS wise dont expect mroe than 30 fps in BIG battles.

I get below 30 fps on med settings in SM map ( at the castle ) in WvW…
I am currently using GTX 560 and stock settings for my CPU. So I guess it’s better to save my money eh?
If you havnt got a good high end cpu cooler ..just spend a few on one and OC your CPU to 4.5ghz .You will see a higher performance gain (in WvW atleast) from a OC’d cpu ..than a better GPU than what you already have.
Do make sure your GPu isnt maxing out though in those areas you mention. Get a monitoring prgram and check its utilization . If its a 560 (non Ti) ..there is the slight possibility that its maxing out ..but i doubt it.
personaly im saving for a 700 series that comeso ut in march (roughly) ..probably a 780 ..which also coincides ..just after actually ..of the release of Crysis 3 which looks VERY demanding .a.swell as a coupel other nice games that will requir more gpu power than my current 560ti

^^^^ This perty much sums it up. And please get over the MAX settings is that like a Epion thing.
Thanks! I’m using the hyper 212 plus from cool master you think thats a good enuf cooler for my OC?
I use the P8P67 PRO motherboard.
Oh and the graphics LOOKS SO NICE IN MAX :|
Well it ‘should’ be enough ..it all depends on what voltage you end up having to put through your cpu to get a stable 4.5ghz OC ..you may need to go down to 4.4ghz or 4.3ghz if things get to toasty with that cooler.
i would just try OC’ing find out how far you can go and then decide if you want ot spend money on a new cooler for what ever extra mhz you needo t reach 4.5ghz.
I mean if you do upgrade the cooler. .the Noctua NH-D14 is the best air cooler out ..if you want somthing better than that you have to go mid/high end water cooling. However the Nh-D14 is HUGE so you have to take your case size into concideration with it :P

Alrite thanks man! Sorry last question, but whats a good stable Temp for the CPU when OCed?
Mine is at 48C (not oced)
(edited by Nirvash.3018)
It differes between CPU types but i would say try to keep it below 80c when at 100% max load .
Use Prime95 to test 100% stress usuage for stability, along with a program to monitor temperatures ..i personaly use Aida 64 ..but its not free ..unless you ‘aquir’ it :P
Top end temperature is a personal choice really ..some say 75c ..others 80 ..other 85. I personaly went with 75c for extra safety since my CPU isnt cheap :P

This is how easy it is to OC you CPU to about 4.5
Thanks a bunch! Holy zerk! O_O! I never thought my CPU had that much potential lol
Aye the sandybridge processors 2500k/2550k 2600k 2700k 3930k and 3960x can all go up to 5ghz with water cooling.
And usualy around 4.5ghz give or take on air cooling dependong on how lucky you are (i.e how low voltage your individual cpu chip can run on )
Mine for example is currently running 3930k @ 4.6ghz with 1.36 core voltage. i could probably get to 4.7ghz with a little more voltage and still keep temps undercontrol with my cooler. .but i cba to spend another week tweeking and testing :P
takes that long to find a 100% 24/7 stable OC ..sicne you need to run Prime95 for 12 hours atleast to mak sure your CPu has enough Vcore so it doesnt cause errors or BSOD ..and ofcourse make sure temps are stable ..temps usualy peak after 30 minutes at max load. If it fails any of thos you then tweek some more. .test again for 12 hours ..rinse and repeat :P

If you do that download prime95 and stress test it to make sure your temps are ok you will need a program to keep a eye on the temps also cpuidhwmonitor is a good one. I can overclock my i5 2500k to 5.0 and be completely stable with my liquid CPU cooler but I just run it a 4.4 bacause their really no change in performance. If the temps are a little high you can always add anouther fan to the hyper 212

The video I linked above is your mother board right?

IBT is much faster to test CPU stability than Prime95.
15min of IBT is equal to 12 hours of Prime95 testing

No, it’s not. I’ve had cpu’s pass IBT yet fail P95 almost instantly & vice versa.

How much memory did you dedicate during the test? The more memory allow, the more a realistic stress test it will be.
Also, IBT just uses the same Linpack instruction set as Intel, so you can barely get more authentic stress testing than this.
Edit:
IBT is not just about “passing” the test, it’s about the GFLOPS consistency. You can pass ten runs, but if your flops results aren’t consistent, then it means you aren’t stable.

Over clocking your CPU will give you a mediocre performance boost in GW2.
GW2 is single threaded, and yes, even though it does use a small percentage of your other cores it still mainly draws its resources from one core. If you OC, you will only notice this difference in a single core, not all the cores/threads in your CPU. OCing could also give you unwanted heat and more stress on the CPU, something that for me doesn’t provide a big enough incentive in GW2.
I have an i7 920 @ 3.6 ghz. When GW2.exe was launched, I opened up task manager and set the affinity for gw2. I tested out different cores and jotted down my FPS. It turned out that GW2, when running on only 2 threads of my i7, had the same performance when running on all 8 of my threads.
GW2 is having an extremely large amount of trouble utilizing our CPU’s atm. I thought single-threaded games ended years ago, but I guess this is the cr@p you have to put up with when the developers decided to be lazy and develop off of the GW1 engine.
Technically, GW 2 is not single threaded. It has quite a few threads actually. Only a handful seem to be performance crtitical though.

It pulls mostly from one thread. It’s single threaded.
Can my Ivy Bridge CPU i5 3570k 3.4 GHz handle WwW at max settings with 60 fps ? Or Do I need to overclock it?
NO cpu can handle WvWvW at 60 fps. But you will get better performance the more you OC it. Expect 30 fps ..or there abouts if you can reach 4.3 to 4.6ghz

SolarNova.1052 is incorrect. Don’t listen to him at all. He might try to show that he has a half-fancy computer in his sig but really the shoes he’s trying to fill are too big. My wife’s computer is an i7-2600k and she can get 60fps with a single GTX 690. As long as she plays at 1920×1080 and not higher in WvWvW. And yes, I am talking zoomed right in, or even a far away FoV right into a spell/attack cake right up against a bases’s gate etc.
Intel Xeon E5-2670 @ 2.85GHz (overclocking is for pre 2010 noobs)
Asus Sabertooth X79
2x GTX 680 SLI

I can easily get 60fps in WvWvW and I’m not even Tri-SLI. I never get frame drops, tearing or any issues ever. It’s got nothing to do with the engine at all at this stage. Though of course it helps if the engine is coded well. It’s all down to how well your GPU works and how efficient it is. Amongst trying to eliminate as much bottlenecking as possible. With that GTX 560Ti the best SolarNova.1052 would probably get standing still is 60 fps at maxed out settings and the moment he moves, it’d dip a little. Even if he had the 448 Core version. My advice to him is to back away from the ignorant saying “if my rig can’t, no one’s can”. I hate to break it to you, but engine or not, it’s not GW2’s fault that you can’t get V-Sync in WvWvW Solar.
FuuTon.6297 why don’t you try it out? Like I said, my wife is still using a Sandy Bridge CPU which for the most part, is still amazing, and she can get V-Sync in WvWvW. To be honest, after overclocking 20% over your CPUs stock speeds, the extra Mhz/Ghz you get out of your CPU makes a minimal amount of difference. It’s all down to motherboard spec etc. when trying for a CPU overclock. Trying to get higher numbers like 4.6Ghz (lol, just lol…. stability at that level even with amazing cooling is just so low it’s laughable) on your CPU is basically an kitten thing. Seriously, temps are only half the equation. It’s a sad common misconception that getting ‘epic’ cooling and then overclocking your CPU almost 2x won’t have any bad effects if temps stay within reason. Especially with RAM. My CPUs max paired Mhz with RAM is 1600MHz (same as Solar), yet Solar has his at 1866Mhz (probably because he thinks the number looks cool or something) Tighter timings are always better than higher clock speeds. Anyone who knows what side their bread is buttered, knows this.
People really need to learn a thing or two before spending money, time and then overclocking and thus mutilating their hardware in the process just for numbers. There are tons of videos, articles, blogs etc. that show so much proof, and debunk so many stupid myths about whether or not overclocking is even worth the money/time/risk etc.. and what the gains are out of higher clock speeds/vs stability/vs reason.
My advice to anyone is to buy a good piece of hardware. If it doesn’t do the job, then you try overclocking a little. But really, the best you can do is wait for better hardware, or someone to invent some amazing code that becomes the norm.

Like to point out to you that in regular pve situation my 560ti can manage 60 fps(caped by vsync) max settings (native sampling). When it does dip from high stress situations in pve like events, and swamps in particular, it goes down to 45 fps minimum. My 560ti Is the gigabyte Super Overclocked edition ..runs at 950mhz core clock and 4580mhz effective memory clock. My GPU does need an upgrade i totaly agree ..im waiting on the 780 personaly which should come out around Q2 next year.
WvWvW however is CPU bound ..my GPU usuage drop to 60% my CPU maxes out around 20-25% which is the cap(for a 12 thread cpu) for the GW2 main threads. It wouldnt matter if i had a 690 gtx ..it wouldnt help in WvWvW situation with over 30 people on the screen. becouse at that point the CPU is the one under heavy load.
When there isnt 30 odd people on the screen i can get 60 fps in WvWvW easy ..WvWvW itself isnt the thing that lowers the fps ..its the number of people in one place on the screen that does. .and that generaly only happens in WvWvW.(and some pve events).
As for CPU stability when OC’d ..so long as you use the correct programs you can make sure the OC’d cpu is not causing errors and is indeed running faster. Oh and my RAM is stock at 1866mhz. At this point in time the latency of the RAM matter more than the core speed Which is why you get CL9 or if you can CL8. Mine are CL9 which is perfectly fine.
I highly sugest you research into the outcomes of ‘proper’ OC’ing befor you condem somthing that so many people do.
Honestly the general tone and info in your post makes me suspect your trolling ..but giving the benifit of the doubt ill just take it that yor missinformed.

Lots of people listen to Skrillex, and David Guetta. It’s a bad thing but we don’t condemn that either… lots of people are racist too. I don’t ‘condemn’ overclocking, I just condemn how stupid people get when they start to overclock and see the ‘numbers’, the greed sets in and people don’t even realise the damage they are doing vs. the 0.0001% performance gain they are getting.
Computers have enough problems as it is, you add so many variables into the equation with overclocking. It’s almost impossible to fix issues in games when the user is overclocking… Stability is always the most important thing. If the computer is stable and running efficiently, then it’s running better than an unstable overclocked PC.
As for WvWvW. My first GTX 680 primarily handles everything except for Supersampling/AA etc. and my second one does the latter. Commonly my first GPU runs at 75% efficiency which is one the highest rates I’ve seen in any game. Probably something to do with the engine as someone else said. My second GPU runs at about 65% efficiency, but hey, supersampling is a big task.
My CPU commonly lights up 2 cores like a christmas tree in WvWvW, so I tend to use about 4 out of 8. It doesn’t matter what I set the affinity to in Task Manager.
So, to answer your theory or not. No. It is possible to get V-Sync in WvWvW with a 60Hz monitor, frame capped at 60 with V-Sync on. Though it could have something to do with the ‘type’ of card I am using. Because it’s been proven that some cards are better at playing some games than others.
I have in no way tried playing the game on a 2560×1600 resolution. I would never dream of getting 60fps on a res that size. But at 1920×1080. It’s totally doable. I’d say you could probably even do it on a 1920×1200 res. The next thing I’m buying is a better monitor anyway.
