As the title says. I browsed the other Windows 8 threads and they were all lag and input issues (I don’t have those).

Specifically, GW2 can not open a desktop based browser when running Windows 8. If you type /wiki Something, nothing happens. If you try and buy gems, nothing happens.

I would like to buy Gems with Pay Pal direct from ANET but I can’t! Oh well… Guess I’ll give them more money with they fix it so I can give them more money!

That’s all well and good, but MS has the dominate OS on the market. Windows 8 is their latest version. Valve, ANET, and every other game developer is going to have a hard future if they don’t support this OS.

That simple. All tech heads in the world can hate it and it won’t matter. Granted Windows 8 adoption right now is small, more people will be using Windows 8 in 1 or 2 years than Mac, and they have a full client to support that.

Valve using linux, I garuntee you that is only for their set top box / support of linux. Valve won’t be ditching Windows, that’s what most people in the world use.

Back on topic, where is the support for opening Pay Pal / Wiki from the game? At least use your custom in game browser to accomplish this.

Don’t use IE. Download either chrome or firefox set it as the default browser. If you can’t check Internet Option settings and enable compatibility option (Set it to IE9 compatibility mode).

I just tested both /wiki and a gem purchase via PayPal on my Windows 8 x64 machine and both opened IE10 on my desktop without issue. I tried it with IE closed and also already running – when it was running it opened new tabs (as expected). I did an in-place upgrade from Win7 to Win8 on my machine and that does influence some of the default behaviors.

You might try configuring IE 10 to open the desktop version instead of the metro version. You can do that by running IE 10 (desktop) and choosing Settings (gear icon), Internet options, and then Programs. In the top of this dialog, change “Choose how you open links” to “Always in Internet Explorer in the desktop”. The side effect of that setting is that things like mail and whatnot will now launch in the desktop version of IE 10, which you may or may not want. At least this gives you a starting point to try to troubleshoot and then you can decide what option works best for you.

BUMP – Was there ever any resolution to this? Just tried to buy on my new laptop, and no matter which browser I have set as default, or admin mode, it just WILL NOT launch a new browser window or tab, so I can’t buy Gems via paypal or use the /wiki command.

They are not moving steam to linux, they are just starting to support it. But they aren’t just moving to linux.

I’m facing the same problem using Windows 7. When I try to buy Gem’s the Paypal Webside doesn’t open in my browser. I already installed a new browser (Chrome) and set it to my default browser. That didn’t worked. So I deinstalled Firefox and installed it again, setting it to my default browser. Nothing happens (even if the browser is already open or closed).

Don’t know. I will try to deinstall GW2 and install it again … maybe this helps.

Same issue here. Send a ticket about it. Don’t even think the transactions are getting forwarded to paypal. Some connection issue between anet and paypal? cause when I would go to paypal the transaction I tried to do wasn’t even listed.
