Yesterday, when I was crossing the gate from “Caledon Forest” to “The Grove”, the game client showed this:The game client lost its connection to the server. Please wait a few minutes before restarting the client and trying again.(Code=7:11:3:191:101)
I waited for at least 12 hours. Every time I get into this game using this character, it shows the same message.
I created a new character. I can get into the game normally using this character. What’s wrong with that character?

Would you consider trying these two possible solutions to see if they help fix the problem for that character:

Check the game for errors and repair it

  • Close your game completely.
  • Next, make a copy of your Gw2 game shortcut and rename it “GW2 Repair” or to something that you will recognize it for being only for running a repair on your GW2 installation.
  • Now, right-click this “Gw2 Repair” shortcut and click on “Properties”.
  • On the “Shortcut” tab look in the “Target:” field, you should see:
“C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” or wherever you have Guild Wars 2 installed.
  • After the closing quotation marks in this line put a single space and then add -repair
It will look like this but with your GW2 install location:
    “C:\Program Files (x86)\Guild Wars 2” -repair
  • Hit OK after making this change.
  • Run this repair shortcut. Your game will run through a repair cycle and fix any damaged files it finds.
  • After it runs through, start the game using the normal GW2 game shortcut (not the repair shortcut) and see if your character can load up properly.

Delete the local.dat file
Deleting this file has helped resolve this issue for other players in the past. It will also cause you to lose your saved game settings (graphics, stored login data, etc.) but may fix the problem. If you rely on your stored login info to log in, make sure you can recall what your login info is as the stored login info is also cleared.

The quickest way to do this is to:

  • Ensure your game is completely closed.
  • Hold your Windows Key and press ‘F’ to open your Windows Search.
  • Search for “Local.dat”. 2 files may be found.
  • Ignore the “Local.dat” file that is in the game installation folder if one is found there.
  • Delete the “Local.dat” file that resides at:
    “C:\Users\YourComputerUserName\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2”
  • Load up your game normally and see if the character can load properly.
  • You will notice that your settings are reverted to default. You should reconfigure your game settings once again to your preference.

The second method can’t solve this problem.
Now I’m trying the first method.
I think it’s a bug on the server side, because I tried using my friend’s computer to play this character and failed while he plays normally.

How do you know deleting the local.dat will not solve your problem? It has for many others in the past with only a single character unable to be loaded.

With this additional information of the character still unable to be loaded on a different installation on a different computer, in this case it is correct that deleting the local.dat file will likely not help. Had that information been provided then I would not have suggested it (or repair) as a possible solution due to it seeming to be the type of issue only filing a ticket with Support can resolve.

Good luck with your correspondence with Support to resolve the issue.

Good luck with your correspondence with Support to resolve your issue if repairing the client does not help (which it likely won’t due to the aforementioned case of it still being unloadable on another installation on another computer).

I tried both methods, but still can’t use that character.
