Q:

I need some help to resolve the quality loss in character textures I’ve recently experienced. I didn’t make any settings changes to GW2 or AMD and I have experienced a fairly significant drop in quality.

I’ve re-installed GW2 with no change.

I followed the advice in this thread to no avail.

It seems I have the most up to date drivers, but here’s my Catalyst output information.
I have tried both enabling and disabling Crossfire.

SOFTWARE:
Driver Packaging Version 12.104-130328a-157485C-ATI
Catalyst Version 13.4
Provider Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
2D Driver Version 8.01.01.1295
2D Driver File Path /REGISTRY/MACHINE/SYSTEM/ControlSet001/Control/Class/{4d36e968-e325-11ce-bfc1-08002be10318}/0001
Direct3D Version 9 .14.10.0969
OpenGL Version 6.14.10.12217
Catalyst Control Center Version 2013.0328.2218.38225

HARDWARE:

Graphics Card Manufacturer Powered by AMD
Graphics Chipset ATI Radeon HD 5700 Series
Device ID 68B8
Vendor ID 1002
Subsystem ID C013
Subsystem Vendor ID 1092
Graphics Bus Capability PCI Express 2.0
Maximum Bus Setting PCI Express 2.0 x8
BIOS Version 012.020.000.002
BIOS Part Number 113-C01301-S27
BIOS Date 2010/03/23
Memory Size 1024 MB
Memory Type GDDR5
Core Clock in MHz 850 MHz
Memory Clock in MHz 1200 MHz
Total Memory Bandwidth in GByte/s 76.8 GByte/s

The two attached screens illustrate the difference. Also of note: the texture loss has not increased or decreased performance.

I’m fairly dumb, so talk like I’m six.

Thanks for any help you may provide.

First off, make sure the game’s settings have not changed even though you have not physically changed them yourself. Then, I would try deleting the local.dat file. The file is located in the user documents folder I believe.

If none of that works, maybe your graphics card is throttling itself down due to excessive heat and in turn, Guild Wars 2 is set to automatically adjust the settings based on your graphics card. Lets check your CPU and GPU temperatures, if you don’t already have software that monitors these temperatures, then I would recommend getting HWMonitor which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe

Make sure to let the game run for 15 or so minutes before reporting the temperatures back, you’ll want to make sure the temperatures have reached their peak temperature under the load of Guild Wars 2.

All of the temps were running between kitten degrees centigrade.

It turns out one of my cards, was very unhappy.

Thanks for your help!
