As per title. Here is a description of the scenario
1. Enter instance for personal story quest Source of Orr. able to play through this instance to completion including killing the Sovereign Eye.
2. Cinematic begins playing after Traherne completes the ritual. The first approximately 10 seconds of the cinematic plays normally.
3. Cinematic reaches one particular frame, about 10 seconds in, and then immediately crashes my entire computer. The last thing I see on my screen is a green vine/tree thing rapidly growing out of the artesian spring waters.
4. My system dies at this point. This is not a game client crash. This is a full system crash. The entire system simply halts and stops and then restarts as if a system reboot command had been given.
Some system information about my machine:
Windows 7
Gigabyte motherboard with intel z77 chipset
intel core i5 quad-core CPU running @ 3.4 ghz
8 GB of ram
nVidia Geforce GTX 560 ti GPU
have tested this with two different GPU driver versions. initially used nVidia driver 304.79. then updated to nVidia driver 306.23. exact same problem with each driver.

Does it happen in any other cutscenes?
It might be worth adding the -repair switch to the guildwars 2 shortcut.
(Right click icon > properties, the paste this in the “target” field;
C:\GW2\gw2.exe -repair)
Change the drive letter if the game isn’t install on C!
It could also be that you’re getting a blue screen but your computer is restarting before it’s been displayed. You need to see the error message if that is the case, so right click on My Computer > properties > advanced system settings > click startup and Recovery settings button > System failure: Untick automatically restart.
Then you need a program like whocrashed? to read the error dump and turn it into something meaningful.

I have the exact same issue, this thread was a year ago. Is there no fix?

From your log:
C:\Program Files (x86)\AMD\Dual-Core Optimizer\amd_dc_opt.exe
The AMD dual-core optimizer is running in the background. You should uninstall this – it’s no longer needed and you don’t have an AMD CPU.
Another thing to try is a “clean” start up. Here’s how:

No resolution? I even tried reinstalling the game.

Hi Dailoh,
Try this:
1. Go into Power options (Control panel → Hardware and Sound → Power Options) and click “Change plan settings” near your plan
2. Then click on “Change advanced power settings.”
3. Scroll down to “Processor power management” and expand it.
4. Expand “Maximum processor state” and modify the setting to 99%. Be sure to also set the minimum processor state to something below the maximum. I recommend 5%.
5. Then simply click “Apply” and “OK.”
After this has been done try launching the game again. When you do, the turbo boost feature should refrain from kicking in and that may resolve the issue you’ve been experiencing.
Hope this helps!

Hi Ashley Segovia,
I appreciate you trying to find me a fix. I did as you asked, issue still exists.
I have this exact issue – crashes at the same point. Any fix?
I briefly (briefly) looked through both text reports and can only spot one hardware issue that is common to both and that is the z77 intel chipset and also that neither of you have the intel chipet drivers installed.
I have the same chipset on my board and figuring out what exactly is needed for it is a challenege. Ive had the same type issues with mine where suddenly the screen is black and you are at the bios bootup. Windows event log is of no help, it just states an error 41 kernel power faliure.
Fernando has an excellent website and forum setup that details intel archetecture and links to drivers of various rel;eses. Get ready to do some reading.
Station drivers is a french site that is the authority for a driver database. Please do not download drivers from any site until you research them – same as any software.
station-drivers.com
Select your mboard manufacturer, model, etc, and it will take you to the page that has the latest drivers for your make and model – even more up to date than your mboard manufacturer. Educate yourself before doing any of this, worst case scenario is you can brick your machine.
Ill also make a note here that in future it will probably be more productive to post support requests on an external website such as winraid, 3dguru, etc. Ill post some links below.
http://www.techpowerup.com/forums/
Overclock.net has a nice forum where there are threads and owners clubs for your motherboard, video card, everything. And although the problem may surface while in gw2, it would also proc in another game given the same set of circumstances.
I believe Ashley is on the right track with power settings as it sounds like an issue with power saving mode switching from 2d to 3d and viseversa.
Please note that Im not tech support, I just happened to look over this post while having morning coffee and saw the same chipset as mine. One of the first things I do when Im about to purchase a product, motherboard, video card, mouse, etc, is to look at the manufacturers support forums for activity and problem resolution.
