Q:

I installed GW2 on my PC about half a year ago, at which point, I had 3 hard drives installed, designated C:, G:, and E:. Since then, I reinstalled Windows, in the process removing the E: drive to use in another build. When I tried to reinstall GW2, it told me that ‘Local.dat could not be found’ or similar issue. I tried every solution found on the ‘net, these forums or elsewhere, to no avail – but when I plugged in a USB drive that was automatiucally designated as ’E:’ and just happened to try reinstalling whilst it was inserted, the install started to work. I stopped it immediately because it seemed to be creating files on a USB stick that I would need to remove at some point, and I cannot redesignate another drive as E because many other programs rely on the current drive pointers. A bizarre issue, and help would be appreciated.

So, the gw2.dat file was likely located on the E: drive. Just start over, delete all file associated with the game (your shortcuts, any Guild Wars 2 folders, etc. etc.), download the installer from ArenaNet’s website, place the installer where you want your game, and start downloading.

So you had GW2 installed to E drive or you had the OS on E drive? What OS did you come from and what did you go to? Did you do an upgrade install or full install?

GW2 was installed to E, I had a copy of Windows 7 on C and then upgraded to Windows 8, also on C, at which point I removed my E drive.

I’m going to assume that since its been 10 days and you didn’t ask for any other advice that your issue has been solved.
