Guild Wars 2

So I’ve had literally no problems – not a single one – with loading the client, or any update for GW2, before, but suddenly, after attempting to open the client…it just sits there, with the ‘Downloading X KB (YKB/sec) and then goes to 0….then says connection errors.
I used GW2 yesterday, and my internet is tip-top shape – any ideas as to why it’s like this? Does anyone else have this problem?

For Some reason the DL speed is really slow, but i just played like 3 hours ago, complete with the new patch (Pact Fleet weapons), and i clicked my client now, and this happened.

I had this problem when updating the client on my tablet. It used to drop the speed to 0, so I had to close everything that was open and reopen the client and just let it sit to update. If that is not wholly your problem, perhaps just wait a little while before trying again? ^^;

I was having the same problem just now, but it finally worked after about a half hour of getting connection errors.

arenanet, pls. this is like the 3rd or 4th time that has happened to me, after just working fine the previous day.

I’m getting the same thing. Client tries to update, speed drops to 0 kB/s after downloading about 400 kB, then says “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…”.

Okay, so I’m not getting connection errors anymore, but it’s downloading extremely slowly and frequently dropping to 0 KB/s. An hour later and it’s still not done.

I’m having the same exact problem, is there a fix for this issue? Earlier when patching the patcher was stuck at 1 Files Remaining, now its no longer displaying the percentage bar as you’d normally would see in the ui at login screen. The patcher ui is now completely blank as to there is no login display but a downloading display with the Guilds Wars 2 text and the sylvari women off to the side. Downloads start and stops with little to few kb, ultimately will end in an “Connection Error… Retrying” message. This problem continues to persists since of the new patch, i have never encountered this problem and last night the game ran fine… Need a fix asap, please and thank you

I’m having the same problem. I can’t even terminate the launcher normally. I have to go into task manager and end it there. Task manager says the program isn’t responding.

Yup, the task manager is the only way to terminate the launcher… the launcher becomes unresponsive when it displays at the “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” stage, Cant interact with the launcher nor exit through clicking the “x” button at the top right corner.

It’s stuck at 0 kbps. Also, I can’t close the client using the X button, so yea had to use “End Process” button from Task Manager >.<;;

This noon, the client patched just fine, but apparently there was another update that caused this 0 kbps patching issue…..

Annoying as hell. Cannot even login to do bosses…

Exactly, I patched earlier too, and after i ate, launched the client and there was another patch.

i’ve been stuck at 0kb/sec for about 4 hours now. tried patching on two computers, and even tried re-installing the client. I can’t even install the client, it just gets stuck at 0kb/sec

Any devs wanna respond just so we know?

This exact thing is happening to me! I even went to the extent of uninstalling the game and taking my firewall down and nothing…. same thing with 0 and having to close it to task manager ): PLEASE FIX THIS

Same exact problem. My daughter can’t log in either. We can’t get past the download screen, it hangs every time.

This appears to be working. The download rate is still horrible (0-25KB/s), but it may be getting somewhere…

Can anyone confirm that this approach is safe?
Altering the system 32 file through: Edit C:\Windows\System32\Drivers\etc\hosts using notepad (run as administrator)
Then pasting this at the bottom:174.35.56.164 assetcdn.101.arenanetworks.com

@Kaarina. i tried it, but it didnt do anything for me . (i made a backup copy of the hosts file just in case)

I was scared at first too, but it worked for me, and i’m definitely in game right now.

I tried that method, but my computer didn’t give me an option to run the “hosts” notepad file as an administrator even if I am the only one using this computer.

Maybe, I need to do it under safe mode, but since some other people who have tried it still have 0-25 kbps, nvm. I won’t change anything on my system32 files.

EDIT: Nvm, I found a way to let me modify hosts file as an admin without using safe mode.

And no dev update. lol.

this is ridiculous, now it wont even try to download anything, it just stays at 0kb/sec the second i start the client

@Rislod: Did you try to do a DNS cache flush after applying the temp fix? Find the Command Prompt in your Start menu (or whatever it is in Metro if you’re on Win8), then do “ipconfig /flushdns”.

This has worked for me. After the slow download of the client itself, it goes much faster with the content files (145 MB or so) from today’s update.

So, i first removed GW2 launcher by exiting in Task Manager then opened up my command prompt and successfully flushed the dns by typing in the command: ipconfig /flushdns and… im still stuck at little to few kbs then to 0.. I’ll check out that link and figure out if theres anything i missed.

1) Close out the patcher client.

3) Flush your DNS.
4) Open game client again.

Uh yea and no. So many people having this problem makes me wonder if Anet had given up to 72 hours (which was typical when I worked for an application service provider) for DNS propagation.

From what little I know of how DNS works, that chokepoint of 72 hours is usually on the ISP side, client or server. Like I said, I use OpenDNS and didn’t run into this issue at all, so I can only assume the DNS change not showing up is on the client ISP’s side of things. I’m just glad I was able to contribute towards the fix.

okay so i can find the hosts on my computer no problem but the problem is on my friends computer. they are having this issue of to which there is no hosts folder there. i figured it was hidden by default so we clicked to show hidden folders still nothing. no host folders no nothing and we are looking in the correct space. any idea why its not there?
