Computer crashing whilst playing GW2
I’ve been having the same problem as you where the game crashes and it’s just my GTX 670. I run multiple monitors (middle on GTX 670 for main applications) two side screens with a GTX 260.
WHen the crash occurs just my middle screen is affected while the other two still display whatever they had.
I was not able to completely fix the crashing (it happens randomly) but I have found that by changing the Power Management Mode to Prefer Maximum Performance in the ‘manage 3D settings’ of your Nvidia Control panel, you may reduce the number of crashes. Make sure you set it for both global settings and program settings (GW2).
Other than that … I don’t know. IF you happen to find a fix for your problem, I’d be happy to hear it. Seeing as at the time I wrote this … I had just experienced another crash.
My computer specs are identical to yours.
Settings your preferred power profile to maximum performance just keeps the GPU at P0 state (akittens highest clock speeds). Doesn’t seem like that would solve any crashes though.
Edit: To the OP, what’s your PSU brand and model?
Intel 520 120GB + 240GB / 2 x WD Caviar Black 1TB (RAID 0) / Corsair AX1200 / ASUS VG278H
Windows 8.1 Pro x64 / ASUS Xonar Essence STX / Sennheiser HD 650 / Logitech Z-5500
Hi thanks for your replies.
I have a rebranded OCZ ModXstream 600W
I know from previous experience this would be seen as the culprit and i should probably swap it out to check, but i dont have a spare 600W lying around unfortunately.
The strange thing is I play Battlefield 3 on this computer which i assume is a lot more GPU and probably CPU intensive, and i dont experience any instability/crashes
I have almost the same setup and experience the same thing since last week. Either the gtx 670 is a very bad card(been reading about crashes all over the world) but for me it is just in GW2. I can play Diablo 3 the whole night without a single crash :/
One hour of gw2 would be around 4 to 5 system crashes.
Your PSU is alright. It shouldn’t give any problems.
What Nvidia driver version are you using? There’s been a lot of rumours regarding the 670 and recent drivers breaking a lot of games…
The error relates to your graphics card/drivers.

I am seeing some major improvements(fingers crossed) after I did some searching on the net with people having problems with the windows 7 64 bit + gtx 670 (or nvidia cards in general).
I did a bunch of things but I do not know which one helped me out, I could not play GW2 for more than 15 minutes and now for 2 evenings hours of play and no problems.
First I used a driver cleaner to get rid of everything. Than installed the latest nvidia drivers, but not the whole package, I just installed the drivers and not the physh engine, 3d-vision and HD audio driver.
Also a tip from asrock my mainboard, the pcie in my bios was set to auto, I changed that to Gen3.
After all these things no more chrashes, but like I said no idea which one helped for me.
I think the clean driver install did the trick.

I will attempt a clean driver install when i get a spare moment, just enjoying this dragon bashing too much atm!! (when its not crashing)
Just freshly reinstalled Graphics card drivers, and had a crash within 2 hours of doing so. starting to think i will have to swap out the power supply.
Just crashed consecutively within 5 minutes of another, haven’t had them that regularly before. Would love to get to the bottom of this :S
Any help from Anet tech support would be lovely
My list of things that help
This happens to me when I load a char in LA.
1 . load a char who is not in LA
2. on my desktop I have a gw2 shortcut. Right click it and select properties. on target line add this in front of before what you have there C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /C START “GW2” /affinity 55 and make sure there a space after 55
This issue started for me when dragon bash started. When I updated my Nvidia drivers I received a message that physx driver was not installed because there was a newer version on the machine.
Things I tried. CPU, Gpu and PS are not overheating and a waste of time to explore when its GW2 that is the only time ( game) that causes this issue.
Still crashing. Not heat related as ive checked temperatures on GPU and CPU and they arent anything out of the ordinary.
This is starting to get ridiculous. Is there any crash logs for GW2? if so does anyone know where they are located?
I have been having crashing issues with guild wars 2 ever since i came back to play roughly 2 months ago. The crashes appear random, as they occur in WvW, idling in lions arch, or even just traveling through a zone. They dont appear to be tied to large amount of particle effects or quantity of players on screen as i can happily play through a boss fight (ie shatterer) with lots of effects going on, but crash when travelling where no effects are present.
When the crash occurs it produces either a fully black or grey/black texture screen, and the sound slows/loops. I cant exit out to desktop or anything. So a hard reset is required. My computer only crashes with Guild wars 2, I play multiple other games on this system and none of them produce crashes.
My system is as follows
i5-3570K CPU – Running at stock with H50 watercooler
8GB of RAM
2GB NVIDIA GTX 670 – Running at stock
Windows 7Nothing in my system has been overclocked / undervolted etc.
Any help with this issue would be much appreciated as its becoming an nuisance.
*Edit
crashed again, this is the popup that greets me after the restart.Problem signature:

Lots of people are having this issue and they want to blame us. Just like they wanted to blame us at launch when they had all kinds of problems.
Just freshly reinstalled Graphics card drivers, and had a crash within 2 hours of doing so. starting to think i will have to swap out the power supply.
It’s more than likely not your PSU.
If it was you would have problems on all games.
I have zero issue on any other game nor memtest.
This game only. It’s client side. Until they acknowledge or fix it there is probably nothing you can do.

There are, but I don’t recall where. Are you still getting the BSOD error code which was commented a couple posts above mine? Error code 116 is this:
STOP Error 0×00000116: VIDEO_TDR_ERROR
STOP error 0×116 means that an attempt to reset the display driver and recover from a timeout failed. STOP code 0×00000116 may also display “VIDEO_TDR_ERROR” on the same STOP message.
There is a way to increase the timeout timer to allow more time for your computer to work to get the graphics driver back into a working state. This might help resolve this BSOD:

Ilithis – this could solve it, because i have on rare occassions had the game screen come back on after a second or 2, but this is a rare occurance. normally it just freezes then i have to reset or my computer automatically resets itself.
Lazzy – im pretty confident it is their client as like i have said, i do not receive crashes in any of my other games.
Still not solved. Geting pretty ricidulous now.
I am facing similiar problems – the picture disappears, the screen turns black, or sometimes pink, the currently played sound gets loopped. If I have some luck and patience, the system unfreezes telling that video driver had stopped responding. Otherwise I have to perform a hard-reset.
Problem happens when there are many characters on screen – in Lion’s Arch, or in Grove when a vista custscene was played. Running the game in a small window has let me drive the character away from the cursed place in LA, so that the window size, mode and screen resolution could somehow influence the problem.
Only Gw2 is affected. No problems experiences with Far Cry 3, Diablo 3 or Borderlands 2.
System setup:
Core-i7-2600, Gigabyte H67A-UD3H-B3 Mainboard, GeForce GTX 660 2GB (Pailt), 700W PSU
All the recent video drivers (v. 314, 320 and 326 beta) brought me the same results.
