Q:
So I have been on hiatus for a couple months from GW2 and I receive an email to check out some new features. I open the email and see a couple things that I like and decide to launch my good ole GW2 client. Opens up no problem, then I get a “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” message. No patch, no nothing. Tried to re-download the client thinking maybe there was a big change that needed a new setup… Still no such luck…
I am running Windows 8 Pro w/ Media Center.
Intel Core i7-2700K.
16GB Ram.
2x GeForce GTX 550TI SLi.
Any ideas?
p.s. I have tried the normal disabling of antivirus and firewall and adding to exception list.

I have found the problem on my end as to why I was getting the connection error.
It seems Speedbit Video Accelerator installed a LSP in winsock causing errors.
If you are having this type of error and use Speedbit Video Accelerator then that is probably your issue as well.
The fix for this is a simple file download and run to remove the winsock connection and solve your problems.
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm is the tool I used (must run as admin). Then I checked the box that says “I know what I am doing” and selected the sblsp.dll file. Hit the >> button, and clicked finish.
That instantly solved my problem. So if you use Speedbit, and have connectivity issues, try this method and I hope it solves your problems.
This is happening to me now too, I updated the game for the new patch, then closed it when it had finished to play with some friends. After coming back to it, it says "Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…, even though my internet is fine. Anyone got an idea?
Ah, i am getting this as well. My internet is fine and just got the new update!!
why why why, i was so ready for a game after being flooded in some where for a week
It took me 20+ tries to patch this – I was also getting those types of errors.
Been almost 24 hours and no official response with possible solutions?
Howdy,
I believe the problem may have to do with the network authorization system.
My ISP handles IPs dynamically, so after rebooting my modem I was assigned a new IP and was then able to authorize the new address and log in successfully.
Not entirely sure why this occurred, maybe the system couldn’t remember whether the old IP had been approved and was stuck in limbo?
Hope this helps.

I would say this could be a solution for me except for me having a static IP. Thank you for your input though, maybe that will be the answer for others with the same problem.

I am having this issue also, tried earlier today, waited the whole day and it continues to change between “Downloading 0KB (0KB/sec)” and “connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” is this just because of the new patch or something because it was working perfectly last night..
After trying every fix I could find and what people had recommended, and none of them working, I tried to reinstall the game and start from scratch. Now the game refuses to download at all and comes up with the message “Download fail! Please check your internet connection and try again”.
I’ve disabled my firewall and ran as admin….not that they were the problem before this patch. Guild Wars just refuses to connect. Anyone got a clue whats wrong?
Having the same problem. However I downloaded the new patch last night, then played for a while. Now tonight I am trying to log in and it simply comes up with ‘connection error(s) detected. Retrying…’. I have tried rebooting my modem, which didn’t work for me.
^ exact same problem

I had this problem too, apparently it may be due to a data archive being corrupted, I found this on a site which ended up fixing the problem and I hope it helps you guys out too. Good luck.
Locate your Gw2.exe file.
Right-click on the file and select Create shortcut.
Rename this new shortcut to Guild Wars 2 Repair.
Right-click on Guild Wars 2 Repair and select Properties.
Locate the Target line and add -repair to the end.
Example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\gw2.exe” -repair
Click OK.

No luck here. I have 3 licences in my house for me and the kids and none of us can connect at all. I have rebooted to reset my IP and tried all the other fixes – no joy
Alright I got it working I disabled my firewall and antivirus (Norton) funny I have been running fine without doing that since the change today must have changed something in the exe file and Norton dosnt recognize it anymore I hade a exception for it before will try to make a new one and hope it works all the time without disabling it

Yeah the route of my problems I think is also to do with Norton. I too found this funny as this has never been a problem untill this latest patch.
Mine randomly started working and patched. Then FML, the first time I ever accidently log out whilst in game and now I cant get back in.

I think you will find it was just a coincidence. It randomly starts running. I believe it is a server issue.

I believe it is a random coincidence also, mine just kicked in and started working

I think you may be right. I thought I would check again and the launcher started downloading an update. Then the same error message came up, however I left the launcher running for 5mins or so and came back to a new patch downloading and was then able to log in. Game has booted up fine and is playable so far
Sort of same problem.
Update window:
0%
Downloading: 9KB
1 file remaining
0.00KB/sec
Everything worked fine

I’ve had issues with this launcher several times now. Every single time I rushed to google and started trying things out such as playing with firewall, resetting my modem etc. Turns out every single time, it was server or launcher related.
I will wait this time.
PS. And bloody hell, guess what? I try it again, immediately after posting this and it worked. Downloading a new patch now it seems.
Getting this error again.
At first the game didn’t work then it downloaded a patch and worked. Then the game crashed twice due to some other new error from the latest patch. 2nd time round it won’t reconnect as it was initially.
Most frustrating…
I have this problem too
Telstra DNS is kitten atm so just use googles public
8.8.8.8 – 8.8.4.4
If any of you were in flood affected regions of QLD and are on Telstra/Bigpond try configuring your settings to use Googles public DNS https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using
- It worked for me
Solution suggested by Moocattle and silklysoft works for me too
Mine just starting working for no particular reason, I really don’t think it was something I did. I guess what was causing it got fixed? Anyone else still got this problem?
Yeah the route of my problems I think is also to do with Norton. I too found this funny as this has never been a problem untill this latest patch.
Same thing happened to me. This latest patch and Norton suddenly decided that it didn’t like Guild Wars and wouldn’t let it patch until I disabled the firewall to allow it to download.
Same problem.
2 days straight now trying to download this game. About to give up.
I’m now getting this error. Played the past two days without any problems. Now i’ve been getting “connection error(s) detected. retrying…” I’ve gotten this error numerous times in the past. It’s been really annoying. Never have I found a legitimate fix. Usually am able to find a work-a-round. I’ve tried numerous solutions to no avail. DNS flush, restart, modem/router restart, etc etc. Any help would be appreciated.
