Corrupted files leading to consistent crashes

I’ve had a consistent problem of needing to do file checks constantly. The Gw2 client crashes out then I see the error report and it’s always the same thing……….corrupted files found.
Soooo, I’ve reinstalled Gw2 on 3 separate drives now. 1 drive was SSD and 2 platter drives the current one of which was completely fresh and empty.
And yet again I get the client crashing and prompting for more file checks. I can’t handle doing any more file checks. It’s gotten ridiculous.
3 reinstalls laters, 3 separate hard drives, 100+ file checks and the game still crashes a day or two after a file check and will continue to crash more and more until i do the file check.

Hi Godmoney – I’m sorry to hear you’ve been running in circles trying to get this issue worked out. Would you be so kind as to attach the full crashlogs you’re getting to this thread? You can find them by navigating to Documents\Guild Wars 2 and it will be the ArenaNet.log file.
This might give us a better indication as to exactly why you’re experiencing these crashes.
Thank you!

Just to add to this discussion, I had a very similar problem where I would need to do repairs, but I would also sometimes get a BSOD that led me to believe that one of my sticks of RAM was bad. Some things just go bad after a while unfortunately. The weird part is that the stick of RAM passed memtest multiple times. Now that the stick is out of my system I haven’t had any problems inside or outside the game.

something has been causing corrupt files and crashing. I get it all the time now. My ArenaNet.log is attached, the last 5 crashes or so is the same exact error! Corrupt filestream thingie.
I hope Anet can figure out the reason for this because its bloody annoying.

Hi Dawdler – In your particular crash log I’m seeing quite a few CRC errors. I’d probably start with running a disk check so you can eliminate issues with your HDD.

Here it is.
I hope your not going to tell me to do a file check considering I’m getting this problem on multiple drives now 1 of which was SSD. It’s really hard for me to believe that the HDD’s are all corrupting files.
It’s got to be something else that’s causing this. Thanks for the help.

Bumping because I’m desperate to fix this issue. Thanks.

I am also getting this issue, where I crash every time I launch GW2. Everything else on my system work fine.

I had similar problems with a newer PC.
As Ilithis Mithilander.3265 said, in my case it was a bad stick of ram. I replaced it, and not a single crash since. It could not hurt to run memtest just to see what it says.

I have tested my ram, I have tested hard drive. I have stress tested my video card. I have un-installed, re-installed. repaired. everything under the sun.
Neverwinter works no problem. All other programs work no problem. Started happening after last patch for the living story stuff.
I could tell you what it is; but no one will be happy at the answer. In a nut shell I can break it down to one word…Coding.
I’ve had these same issues since the Karka patch back in November; before that, everything ran peachy. Whatever they changed in their framework borked something that they still haven’t figured out. Despite thousands of logs being sent in; there’s something they haven’t found yet, or at least aren’t admitting to.

I just ran memtest86 for over and hour while walking the dog, just got home and it’s still running. How long should memtest86 run for?
Let’s assume I have a bad stick of RAM, is that going to corrupt files on my HD?
What’s interesting is that I have no problem with the other 200+ games on my steam account. This week alone I finished up Shank2, Darksouls, etc. I have never had any issue with any other game but Gw2.
This is at least my 7th computer I’ve built so I run a pretty tight ship. After years of building and owning pc gaming rigs I’m pretty sure the problem is something specific to Gw2.
I’ll run memtest86 again tonight while I sleep. I hope it’s just a bad stick cause replacing some RAM is easy and cheap. What I suspect though is that problem does lie in coding.

The duration of memtest depends on the speed of your RAM and how much RAM you have. The faster the RAM the less amount of time it takes to check it all. The more RAM you have the more time it takes. I think when I had 12GB of 1600Mhz it took me 30-45 minutes? I can’t remember but it was somewhere in there. It’s also recommended to let memtest do multiple passes just to make sure the RAM is good.

Something to be aware of, is that memory can be running just “on the edge” of failing and won’t necessarily show as bad in Memtest. Memtest is great for finding completely bad sticks, but it doesn’t really stress the RAM.
I recommend removing some and/or moving the sticks around then testing.
An example of what I’m talking about:
I have 4 sticks (1G X 4) of Kingston Hyper-X DDR RAM (yes – DDR lol). The spec sheet says I can run at 2.5-3-3-7 timings; which actually works fine (I set the timings looser to give a margin of stability: 3-3-3-8).
I can set the timings to 2-3-2-6 and run Memtest multiple passes with no errors. However, if I run a game such as Tomb Raider or GW2, my computer will freeze within 5 minutes.
Another thing you could try is down-clocking your memory as a test.

I have 2 questions for you: – How do I make a file check?
– What is the exact crash that is happening?
Thank you for your support.

Nice necro!
Judging from what you attached to your post, you’re getting an out of memory error. A few things that have been known to help are:
-Make sure nothing else is running except Guild Wars 2
-Lower your graphical settings
-Buy more RAM and a 64bit operating system
By file check, I’m going to assume you meant the files for Guild Wars 2. To do this you will need to add the repair switch to the shortcut you use for Guild Wars to. Follow the instructions here:

to get the desired results.
