Q:
Holding down the right mouse button in combat is uncomfortable, and it also puts strain on my wrist. Since there is no toggle free camera option where the mouse moves the camera without holding down a button, I was wondering if i could just use a macro which toggles a free look camera for me, using AutoHotkey.

Well in most online games I’ve played macros are allowed as long as they don’t simulate multiple button presses (this is how it worked in WoW and SC2), however I don’t know Arenanet’s policy on macros. I would really like to an official response to this as; the strain from holding right mouse for an hour really hurts.

I’d like to know this aswell – Also, it would be nice if they just added an option for it.

I also really wish they would just add free camera.

Can anyone from Anet give us a answer on this?.

It would be nice to have this option, I can sympathize with holding down the RMB, it’s a pain (literally) for some of us. I now use a Cyborg MMO mouse and one of the main reasons is that it has a mechanical ‘lock’ for the right and left mouse buttons.

I haven’t held down that right button ever. I came from Tera online and they had amazing controls and combat which I tried my hardest to emulate.
Here’s the fix
Third party software “X-mouse button control”
how to do it:
1. install and open software
2. click on Add in the lower left corner, link to GW2.exe and select it after you made it.
3. open the pull-down menu behind “right button” and select simulated keys
4. enter {RMB} in the field and select “8 Sticky…” and hit ok.
5. click “Apply” and you are done and no changes need to be made in game.
Now just right click to bring up the mouse and right click again to make it go away. Basically allowing you to free cam and only click if you need to target a spell or player/npc. Enjoy

I wonder about this as well. It would be nice to have an official response on this issue.

I am joining to this. I am too holding RMB for most of the time. I will be happy too, if there can be a hotkey for “Autotargeting” to switch between on/off. And i am not happy about installing third part software.

Coming from dragon nest and vindictus, I hold down the right mouse button 100% of the time during combat. It’s pretty annoying to not be able to use the left/right mouse button for other purposes…. and after a while it kinda cramps your hand.
Dragon nest and vindictus had the ctrl key or the esc key as the mouse cursor/view toggle. Having an option for that would be amazing.

3th party software to control your mouse into letting it do things while your not pressing any buttons.I wouldnt advice people to use this, unless you want your account banned.

I would also like for a free mouse look mode to be an option. Can this be implemented? I wanna avoid installing 3rd party software.

I’d like this feature too, I’m surprised it’s not already here as it’s been a staple of many mmos for a while and helps reduce incidents of RSI in gaming.

That’s ridiculous. I’ll cut off my right leg if that’s true. I recently bought a new mouse and it actually CAME with X-Mouse Button Control. It’s a very useful program.
I’m sure toggles aren’t bannable. If they are, it’s very silly. People like playing in different ways. I agree with the OP, holding down the RMB does put strain on your wrist. Some sort of free camera option (just an example, Champions Online had multiple camera options if I recall) would be cool.
People hear the words “Third Party Software” and immediately freak out. It’s not a bot. It’s a different way of doing things. However, it should /not/ be necessary.

AHK provides the same macro abilities as macro keyboards without the hardware. Something to consider, the ability of macros use allows many people with disabilities to play.
It would be poor choice for any developer to ban the use of such applications and/or hardware. Realistically, since it does not alter/inject code (unlike some bot methods) it cannot be monitored unless the developer has decided to add a system wide spy application and think they can tell customers what they can have installed on their machines.

I’m just curious can you guys (those with the Cyborg Mouse) bind the extra keys from inside the game options or you use the software to rebind.
Also the hold right key is a good I idea. I think that frustration that I can’t bind the keys ingame turned off my thinking that i can use that option in this way.
Cheers,
