So it seems that the culling settings for PVE are tied with the WvW settings. Why would you do this? Do I have to redo my graphics every time I want to go to WvW from PvE?

This culling removal isn’t even a fix for performance. It makes things even worse and until there is a patch that will make the game run acceptable I can’t foresee myself playing for much longer.

Anet simply passed the buck onto the gamer instead of addressing the issue itself(which is the game is the most poorly optimized and planned game ever from a technical point).

Myself I simply switch between performance and best presets for WvW but I do understand that maybe they should have made a 2nd set of settings for not WvW even though besides coloring they do the exactly same thing. I too would rather trade off fewer players for prettier players in PvE Vs all players as generic models in WvW.

This culling removal isn’t even a fix for performance. It makes things even worse and until there is a patch that will make the game run acceptable I can’t foresee myself playing for much longer.

Players wanted to see everyone. At no time was it implied by the devs that it was going to improve performance. Rather it makes more sense that rendering everyone present would decrease performance on the client side. But that’s what players wanted.

Anet simply passed the buck onto the gamer instead of addressing the issue itself(which is the game is the most poorly optimized and planned game ever from a technical point).

They allowed the player to adjust their settings to suit their requirements between seeing all or some other players in all their outfit glory or generic character models by profession (not even gender specific generic models by profession) and balance that against their desired frame rate. Any change the the rendering engine or client at this time such as adding Dx11 support, 64-bit memory support, better multithreaded support, AA support beyond FXAA, etc. are non trivial tasks that would take a significant amount of time and expertise to accomplish.

ANet may feel that the wide range of graphic options are enough to ensure the game is playable on a wide variety of hardware. Note I said playable, not pretty and playable.

I can understand why they removed culling in WvW, it was necessary and well needed.
In PVE most people now cannot play without lowering the amount of graphical detail. I know that I will not have 1000 names floating in mid air ruining the fantastic visuals in LA.
If players wanted to see everyone then those players made a mistake, and a big one at that.
The performance of GW2 is substandard to say the least and removing culling is just a step in the wrong direction.
Adding in DX11, 64 bit memory, better multithreading etc should have been done before launch. Even WoW(shudder) added in DX11 into their client, it is not impossible. AA support is available via 3rd party injectors(which is really really sad). I am willing to not have a month or 6 of a bad LS in order to get the game up to speed to where it “should be”.I am certain that there are tons of players who would like that as well.
IMO the implementation of DX11 etc MUST be done because the game is horribly coded to use only 3 heavy threads via the GW1 engine(modified) and it definitely does not meet the requirements that the game asks. As such, the game will never ever improve in performance without recoding the engine and even having that shiny new i9 7770k with 12 cores will not help at all.
I have a fairly decent system and I can play with Highest/Highest PvE culling settings at about 20-30 fps in LA, but I really really feel bad for the people who have lesser systems.

Don’t know why your getting problems. I’m using a 2600k i7 and a 670gtx (lower spec than you) and the game runs just as smooth as it did before. Except now I can see people in towns more than 6 feet away, which is MUCH better.

But they do need to switch to 64bit, there is no reason to code for 32bit any more. 32bit PC hardware on went obsolete over half a decade ago.

I think they dropped the ball again with having the settings together. I’m personally facing faster memory crash issues after this new patch as the new culling system was rolled out. At least Anet is consistent with their problems.

My issue is that my graphics card is fine..but my internet is slow. We need options. I won’t play this game if even my party members are running around looking like wvw generics. I DONT play wvw for the simple reason that it looks terrible. IF im gonna suffer the same thing in PvE I think I’m done.

I fully agree with Maus. My pc is old so I don’t expect much, but not long ago I could play this game on Medium settings, now it’s all Low and Lowest and still 5-15 fps, thanks to yesterdays patch, it also looks terrible. Everyone except me looks like suppository. For WvW it was fine, but I don’t wanna play this game anymore if it’ll look like this.

At this rate I can see myself leaving GW2 also. Time after time I’m let down by gaming companies that SHOULD provide the basic necessities, like I don’t know… being able to play the game!!!

Exceeeept many, many users are still using 32 bit systems and may not have the funds to upgrade to 64 bit at the drop of a hat. GW2 allows for a player base that may not be able to afford other MMOs due to monthly costs, and devving more and more for 64 bit alone would alienate a huge chunk of the population.

I’d just like is a final word from the DEVS if this is a glitch or working as intended (everyone in the same outfit and a sea of names). I would like to know if I should wait
( a fix is being worked on) or uninstall (they like how it is now) and move on.

So long as the OS has a 64bit version available. Going from 32bit to 64bit is free.

Everyone should be on W7 (or 8 if they must) by now. there is 0 reason not to. Cant afford to ‘buy’ it ..well ..dont ‘buy’ it

hardware to old to use 64 bit. then well tbh, ur rig is likely not up to scratch for gaming anyway. PC’s dont lats for ever, they need upgrading / replacing every 3 to 5 years depending on the starting spec when u built/purchased it.

The tired remark of you need a better system is purely bogus. The majority of the people having the issues can run pretty much any other game on high and do fine. anet revised their engine from guild wars 1. It’s old and bloated and needs a high end system so it can work. Not because it takes advantage of the better specs but because it can’t run as they desire on anything less. There is a huge difference in the two. If you have no background in programming you really shouldn’t make blanket statements with no basis in fact.

Do you know how Blizzard could at both Dx11 and 64-bit support? Because the game has been bringing in nearly a BILLION dollars in sales every year for the last 5 years. Do you know what that buys you? A friggin’ building full of game engine developers who can focus on nothing else other than adding this support. To get the most out of Dx11 you really have to start from scratch and step away from the old Dx3D API and embrace the “new” way of writing Dx3D graphics.

Do you know how much this game has made in the first 3 1/3 quarters? About $200 million. How much of that covers the front money for the 5 years of development cost? It’s simply a matter of resources.

The game is going to China and Korea soon. PC game cafe’s in South Korea still have 30% of their machines running XP. Similar percentage in China for PC OS in general. ANet’s owners are Korean and most of their income comes from Asia so it’s important to support XP and thus Dx9.

64-bit isn’t “free”. Sure it’s just a recompile but the gotchas come from finding all the places where someone was “ambiguous” about the width of some structure/class element. Sure it’ll help with caching more player models which may help with some of the stuttering people are seeing as the data is fetched from the drive to replace the generic model with the actual one as you move around other players, depending on your culling settings of course. Still doesn’t help the general rendering pipeline.

Sad but true, which beggars logic when people say you need a better system. If Anet tries to imply that in China and Korea, they will fail miserably.

Not sure if someone gonna answer but…WHAT ABOUT MESMER ILLUSIONS? After this patch and the new graphic settup I see my clones as pink man o_o . That’s like 3 seconds then my illusion return to my character appearance but stops moving ( I still can see that it does damage but it’s just staying there like its frozen ). I tried to put that character limit/quality at highest possible and didn’t solve this problem. Is there anything I can do ? Or is it a general problem with all mesmers? This need a fix…is really annoying
