My Budget is between 800-1100. I know gaming laptops aren’t great alternatives to desktops, but i need a laptop for traveling and would like to play gw2 like on medium settings.

I’m also trying to keep in my mind the thickness and weight. I don’t want it too be to heavy or thick

I was looking at the Lenovo Y500 for 999, but was wondering if maybe i could get away with something different that maybe since i only need medium setting the y500 could be overkill.

Can anyone help me out?

Well no laptop will run GW2 properlly (there is no such thing as overkill laptop for gw2 not even the 5000$ ones or desktops), starting from that, u should get the best one u can afford, the CPU is the main thing u should aim at, the best the CPU the best GW2 overall experience will be, so get something with 4 cores that can run at 3.2 ghz on turbo mode and a 650m at least for a fluid medium graphics experience, anything better will be most welcome, but u shouldn’t really go above those specs if u want to enjoy the game.

Gaming laptops require special care and computers knowleadge, u must know how to open them and clean the inside, apply thermal compound on the chips stuff like that, constantly monitor the themperature of the components (there are software for that). Sure if u are clueless about computers u will fry ur laptop easy.

Remember when looking atlaptop CPU’s…they dont run all 4 cores at the max turbo frequency that is usualy advertised.

for example the 3630QM says ‘2.4ghz to 3.4ghz turbo’ .. BUT it actually runs at 3.2ghz for 4 active cores, 3.3 GHz for 2 active cores and 3.4 GHz for 1 active core. meaning for GW you would likely be running at only 3.2ghz.

What does this mean when chosing a laptop CPU? ..aim for only the top end QM series CPU’s. I.e 3840QM,3820QM,3740QM and 3720QM…or go for the XM series (very very expensive) when looking ot buy one for GW2 gameplay.
However above all them are the laptops that allow the use of desktop CPU’s like the Intel LGA 2011 i7 3820 which can run at its max stock turbo of 3.8ghz on all 4 active cores.
One such laptop is the SAGER NP9570 which is apprently bassed on the Clevo P570WM.

GPU wise, try get atleast a nvidia 660m

Mine wasnt running hot because I modded the fans so they could run 100% both cpu and gpu were pasted with good stuff. And yeah it requires a bit of knowledge and yet my statement stands dont get a laptop unless you really have to move around daily
