Decreased Performance?
Set the laptop to high performance profile if it’s not already?
also do a cleaning. dust in the fans and heatsinks can lower performance.
Also thermal paste can go bad, so that may also be a thing that needs replacing.

You mean in the Nvidia Control Panel? It’s already been set to it.

Well, I have a laptop, so I can’t really do much other than dust it and swap HDDs/SSDs and RAM.
Not the Nvidia control panel. I’m talking from the control panel, Power settings.
Plus note, it takes a long time and a lot of heavy use to make thermal compound go bad unless it’s already crap.

Ah, the power settings. Yeah, it’s been on high performance since always. Never changed it.

If you are technically inlined you can disassemble yor laptop and remove the heat sinks over the CPU/gpu and reapply the thermal paste with a high quality version, the re assemble
Said it before but I’ll say it again: I’ve also encountered a massive drop in performance in the past few weeks – like the OP, I had been running it very comfortably on high settings. Now it’s only playable on low. I have an Nnvidia 680m.
I’ve tried all suggestions here. I’m running games like Watch_Dogs on ultra with no performance issues, so I’m sure there’s nothing wrong with my hardware.

Well, I am somewhat tech-savvy, but I am not comfortable disassembling a laptop. If it were a desktop, I wouldn’t have any problems with it, but I really don’t want to mess with a laptop. So I guess all I can do is just keep dusting it and hope for the best.

I heard that GW2 is unoptimized still, which is kinda worrying. I mean, my friend runs her game on mid-high (she has a GTX 560) and she gets 60fps. But then again, she has a desktop, and I have a laptop, so I guess that factors in. But then, why the gradual drop in performance?
Guild Wars 2 is not unoptimized. It’s an MMO.
Tried running the game again. Still unplayable. Can’t run without the game stuttering and suffering from lag spikes every 5 to 10 seconds. Seriously, what the hell happened.

Possible dust build-up or crap TIM going bad.
Anyway, mobile GPUs are NOT direct analogues of their desktop versions. 560M is nowhere near as strong as a “real” GTX 560. Same for 770M vs 770, etc. Same also goes for AMD line. An HD7870M is like a stock clocks HD7770.

Figured as much. But nearly a year ago, my 560M was more than enough to run the game fine. Did the game’s requirements change all of a sudden? And yeah, I dusted my laptop already.
You might want to try rolling back your drivers. I did it yesterday and it’s running fine now.

This. Even the Radeon HD 7970M was essentially a slightly underclocked desktop Radeon HD 7870. (Both have Pitcarin XT, 1280 SPs, 2 GB GDDR5, etc) However, the 8970M is a higherclocked 7970M and the M290X is an even further clocked 8970M. They haven’t really changed the chip at all because it’s still very competitive. It’s a bit faster than the GeForce 770M but not the 780M. Not sure where it places among the 860M, 870M and 880M.
a GeForce 670MX is the same GK104 (OEM) chip as the desktop 660 but underclocked majorly. A GeForce 770M is the actual representative of the desktop 660, being a GK106 chip. Both have 960 CUDA cores. GTX 880M is just about as fast as a desktop GTX 680. Both have 1536 CUDA cores, 880M has a huge boost clock, they are both GK104 chips. But the Desktop 680 and 770 are still faster at reference speeds.
The amount of RAM for mobile and desktop graphics cards have gone straight out the window for Nvidia. The 560M is no exception to any of this information— there was never a 3GB desktop GTX 560. That was exclusive to the GTX 580 and other custom card manufacturers like Asus or MSI.
surprised no one has suggested…Check your PCI-E link speeds. Make sure they are at 8x v2 or 16x v2
GPU-Z will show you this information.
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
yeah that’s a thing to check. it won’t make much of a difference if it’s at 8 or 16 as long as it’s PCI E V2.
