Do i need a new cpu?
Depends on your budget. New mboard (intel-based) and a new CPU might indeed be a good idea. GTX560 still counts as a good card. It has the advantage of also being affordable by most people, so you can probably also go for a dual-card setup, as long as your power supply can handle it.
thanks for the reply! i think im running a 700 or 750watt power supply…im also new to upgrading hardware on my own but its definitely fun and a cool learning experience! i think a new CPU would be the easiest fix at the moment though, would you agree? maybe moving to a new Mboard later?
Well your MB would probably fit a FX processor but your going to need to overclock the crap out of it to get it to run good. Your better off buying a new MB and I 5 processor.
I am not quite sure, but doesn’t FX only work on AM3+? If you stick with AMD the best that you can hope of, is to match the processing power equivalent of Sandy Bridge (Intel second generation) i3. And that is if you go for Phenom II 965 (likely only available at small vendors that keep some old stash). All other, including the so called Bulldozer CPUs, are inferior. My advice is to go for an i5 CPU, even either Sandy or Ivy, doesn’t matter that much in terms of productivity. They are not that expensive nowadays. Only go for AMD if you are on seriously tight budget.
I used to be in the AMD camp for years, as they had great value for the price, but that’s not the case anymore. Sadly, Intel is at the moment the only CPU manufacturer worth considering. AMD can only compete in the segment of office computers where companies usually purchase in bulk without considering processing power.
ok cool! thanks for all the help guys! i guess ill play torchlight two for a while til i can save a little bit to make the purchases and upgrades!
hmmm i wonder if i can get an intel mobo and CPU in a combo deal on Newegg…

Hah, keep a cannon for my Outlander, if you find one, will ya
P.S. daily deal, which seems fair priced: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115074&cm_sp=DailyDeal-_-19-115-074-_-Product
I’m an Intel guy but the AMD Phenom II X4 965 uses the AM3 socket, it’s quad core and the benchmarks are close to an i5 750 (first gen i5):

It does not appear to overclock well, but nevertheless its $100 and it’s reasonable if you really, really don’t want to go with a new mobo/i5/ddr3ram which is in the ballpark of $300.

Swedemon.4670: You pay for what you get. The AMD cpu has dismal GW2 performance compared to Intel. If OP wants even a half enjoyable experience playing GW2 then Intel i5/7 is the only way
OP: Your system is very unbalanced, such a strong Gpu with a very weak cpu. This is a recipe for extremely low FPS in general. You definitely don’t need to go SLi as a single 660Ti eats Gw2, I know I’ve got one. You just need a strong processor that can keep up with it. Currently, no AMD processor can do that, your only option is i5/7 Intel.
If your on a budget, i’d go for something like the 2500k. Highly overclockable & cheap.

That`s not entirely true I have a phenom 2 x4 965 and get anywhere from 30 to 80+fps in spvp and pve.The only areas that I have issues is large WvW and black citadel. But if you have the cash go for the Intel chip to eliminate any issues.

So have I & they are crap, lettuice be real here. Don’t sugar coat it, they are crap. WvW/Cities/Zergs are stupid lame compared to my Intel rig.

Im not sugar coating anything, not everyone can go run out and buy a new rig just to play 1 60$ game I was just saying its playable with a 965 never said an intel was not a better choice.

Anyways, to the OP… if you want playable WvW then you probably need an i5/i7. If you’re happy with pve/spvp then you have more options.
I would recommend an SSD before you go and upgrade everything else in your system. I use AMD proc and 560ti gpu and get 10-20 in full zerg WvW. I find this not at all unplayable! But from what i have read an SSD improved things loads vs any other upgrade.
