Q:
Drop in game performance. :/
A:
Ah, i see atleast part of the problem.
AMD doesn’t directly support laptops with switchable graphics, which yours has both Intel and AMD graphics chips.
Its possible the game is starting on the Intel chip, though im not totally up on how you force the laptop to use the AMD chip
i assume there is a way to create a custom profile for GW2 in CCC, and then an option to force the game to run on the high performance (6490m) chip.
Anyone have anything for me?
Your display driver is not supported, please upgrade to something released within the last 3 months or download 13.1 when it comes out in the next few hours
are you downloading the mobile version of the driver?
im fairly sure HP versions of the gpu are supported with the mobile cats.

in any case, that lists 12.10, the 13.1 mobile package isn’t up yet.

Okay. I will try that really quick. It’s funny, I actually just updated my driver before posting this. It’s the latest on HP has released. For some reason the ones form AMD’s website don’t work.
UPDATE: I checked Hp’s and AMD’s websites and this is the most recent driver for them. I can’t find anything newer. Suggestions?

I believe I did, yes. And that link is the driver I have installed already. I don’t know if it’s showing, but I downloaded it last night
If 12.10 is now installed, then you should not have 8.882.2.3000 as the driver version, that number was from mid-late 2011.
can you check Dxdiag or the anet log to see if this has changed?
Yeah, it’s showing as 8.882.2.3000 still, but I successfully installed the update you linked last night, and actually, that’s the 2nd time I’ve downloaded it. It said that the file was already on my computer, so I chose to re install it. This is odd.
UPDATE: I’m going to try and install it again.

post the model (dv7-####) of your laptop and i’ll download the package myself to unpack and look at

Okay, so that update says that it cannot be downloaded due to incompatible hardware/software on my computer. The version of my graphics adapter is not supported.
I have no idea why it would say this, since I am supported.
Also, I was wrong. This wasn’t the update I tried to install. It was a different update that HP’s website says that I need.
It’s a HP Pavilion dv7-6135dx Entertainment Notebook PC
Thank you so much for your help btw. <3
There isn’t a way to select which games use the high performance GPU anymore. However, I have my computer set to use the high performance GPU at all times through CCC, because I heard that switching between the graphics cards too much can burn out your PC. I don’t know how true this is or not.

Check ur GPU usage, but don’t expect miracles since the 6490m is a low end mobile graphics card, it is only a little above intel hd4000 and is significantly slower than some AMD integrated graphics solutions. Download MSI afterburner and monitor the GPU usage during gaming, if the usage is over 90%, then u can be totally sure the problem is ur videocard holding u back, in the other hand if u notice it is performing under 60% load, then the problem might be somewhere else.
