While plausible, it’s becoming more evident that this issue is wide spread and somehow connected with the April patch (most assumed as a problem with the mega-server implementation). I do appreciate you posting some helpful links, however and was not trying to discredit you (more of an FYI).

No worries.
However, I believe that the issues aren’t related to GW2’s servers. The only issue I’ve seen is that the Trading Post has stopped working on occasion – but I know they are working on that because I saw the “Down For Maintenance” message when I tried to access it earlier.
The problems some people are having are likely ISP/internet related or local network problems on the user’s end.
I’ve never had an issue updating or logging in and playing the game since I got it (December 2012). Since that time, I’ve been disconnected a total of 3 times and 2 of those may have been because I was having trouble with my DSL connection (I am on cable now).
One thing that stands out to me; is that every time there’s a game update, I see several people “suddenly” having update and connection issues. Back when I played WoW it was the same thing with every update in that game too. I never had issues updating WoW although I was using the Zone Alarm firewall back then. Currently, I only use the Windows firewall simply because it’s more convenient when I don’t have to spend time configuring firewall or internet security software. Of course, my router has the firewall enabled as well.
This tends to indicate that (at least) some of these issues are firewall or internet security software related. Even some anti-virus programs can be at fault. Also, it’s important that people should realize that merely disabling the firewall or security software may not solve the problem – you actually need to remove it and reset the network connection. There are a whole lot of things that can go wrong with Windows networking that can also cause strange connection problems – although the internet may appear to work fine.
Anyway, I’m getting a bit long-in-the-post here. I can guarantee that if there were server problems on A-net’s end – they would be the first to know about it and these forums would explode with complaints. Therefore, I believe that I can say with confidence that these connection problems some people are experiencing are due to things outside of A-net’s control.
