Absolutely love this change. Now I’m no longer to use any ahem alternative methods to increase FOV to an appropriate level.

Much improved! Although I do agree with others that prefer a FOV Slider, if possible for both Horizontal and Vertical adjustment, everyone’s preference differs. Also attaching the camera to the head instead of the back is a good idea as well. Great start tho, I will enjoy the game even more now. Thank you for taking our feedback and showing progress and making the experience better! Please consider these improvements.

Btw the “zoom bug” that the MK dungeon came with was really great. I hope this is something you guys are working on because it would be nice if this was implemented. Didn’t notice any bugs (or lag) with it either so it seems ready to me. If people think the zoom was too far, just don’t zoom out all the way and everybody wins.
As I posted earlier the FoV beta itself is a real improvement, still it doesn’t hold a candle to the “zoom bug”. Keep up the good work^^

I prefer the new FOV setting.

Nice but it seems to eat about 5-7 fps when I am max zoomed out… I need those frames! My mid-range computer is slow enough as it is!
Standing in Lions Arch (near the Mystic Forge) with standard FOV on max zoom – 36 fps.
Standing in Lions Arch (near the Mystic Forge) with betaWide FOV on max zoom – 30 fps.

Obviously you will lose a few frames because more graphics have to be rendered but for me personally, it is well worth it. I will try it out later and come with an evaluation.

It makes a huge difference. I really appreciate this addition; however, like someone said above, I would really really like it if we had a slider to move our character vertically on the screen. I think the character is too far up the screen. I would like less real estate given to the grass below my feet and more to the things in front and above me

Is there any chance to reproduce the “MK Bug” now ????
GW2 looked sooooooo much better with these settings, and if your pc can handle it, why not ?

This is still not good enough, it increased the fov from 65 to 75.
The fov needs to be 85-95 to avoid motion sickness. Why even bother if your going to do half a job, put a slider in, give people option that is normal. Go nerf thief’s more like every other mmo, that seems to be all you do.
I’m assuming most people responding just like the added eye candy and don’t have the actual issues others have.

Awesome change…. Please, please, please keep it permanent!

It eats a few more frames, but it’s ok. I’m not sure, but it seems like the lag that can be when you just have entered the game or have minimized and mazimized it is more noticible, but that’s also ok as it goes away.
Any way, I like the new FOV more then the standard FOV.

I love this change. The handful of lost fps is just a number, lol your brain will not be able to tell the difference. Although if people are suffering more than 10fps loss, I would consider turning down your graphical options.
Not sure about this change being “still not good enough” lol, but for me it’s an awesome improvement. The real test will be clock tower jumping.
Widescreen TV winning! Makes me wanna go Gangnam Style on you.

I fully agree here!! I would love to be able to place my character a little further down sometimes.

It definately makes a good difference.
However, it REALLY needs some way (either camera or FoV, whatever works) to adjust where the character is vertically. My character really appears too low on the screen now, and it’s very hazardous as an Asura.
It’s progress, but it’s still not even CLOSE to as good as the “alternate method”, as someone said above. That has a slider-esque way to adjust the FoV, which is seriously what this game needs. If for some reason you devs don’t want to do that, then we really need some slider to adjust how high/low the character appears on the screen.
Since I’m an Asura and already very short, and the fact this makes my character appear even lower with no way to correct it, it’s far too hazardous to use currently in my opinion. I hope they’ll do something about this issue.

Certainly an improvement, but without a change to the horizontal FOV it’s still not there for me. I have a 1920 × 1200 display, so the FOV and camera perspective are just unnatural. Without adjusting both vertical and horizontal FOV I’m not surprised. The view now feels closed in on the sides.
I also noticed that my character is now even further forward toward the center of the screen. That’s to be expected, though, if the vertical FOV is adjusted, and the zoom stays the same.
We really an FOV slider, the ability to zoom the camera further out, and a change to the camera perspective in relation to the character. Sadly, this fix won’t bring me back.

When you went into the Mad King Dungeon and came out with a massive Zoom out that was AWESOME!!! Please add the Zoom out from the Dungeon!

O:
Great finding!
So for 1920*1200 (or any 16:10) getting 90°hFoV should take a 65°vFoV

2560×1600. This is so much better! I’m not getting motion sick anymore like I did with the old (slightly) tunnel-vision FoV.
Thank you thank you thank you!!

I’m surprised there’s not more mention that with this new FOV reflections on water are completely unsynced from camera movement……
You turn the camera and the reflections are off sync….none of you notice this? Besides that its great (I still use it, the reflections thing is REALLY noticable tho)

It is very nice as effect, but unfortunately it seems to be taking a couple frames per second and since I have a minimum req machine it makes all the difference.. Hope that if you add this feature we’ll be able to toggle it…

Sadly, the FoV needs more adjustment, along with the vertical position and camera postion in relation to the character. My Asura can see more, but still infuriatingly looking at the ground, and in-close view is worthless. Sigh. The MK bug gave a brief respite from looking either up my nose or my backside. I simply can’t see what I am doing. The MK bug also showed me this world I have been trying to explore. Good gosh it really is a beautiful and wondrous place! Gonna be hard logging in because I get more frustrated than joy. Please keep working this, your game deserves it!

1080p, big changes. It is a lot better even if the image seems a bit distorded but it’s the cost for higher FoV.
I would like to have an option in the settings.
Thanks guys!

This is a great start, now finish the job!
- point the camera at the HEAD instead of the center of the back
(so we’re not staring at the ground when zoomed out, and our backs when zoomed in)- allow people to zoom to first person.
(so we can enjoy the game without breaking the eula)
I aggre, camera should be pointing at the head. Camera in general is problematic and to aggressive, my head hurts. Every small object in the game that stands in between player and camera cause problem – camera zooming to fast, way to fast. And when it is zoomed i see only back of my character.
Example: when you running up the stairs, camera zooms because the fence on the stairs is blocking the way. That fence isn’t 1m tall and it cause problem. Not to mention camera behavior in enteriers.
Please point it at head, make it more flexible and smooth so that don’t zoom on every small barrier.
And we need slider for FOV. Min 65 and max 100 or 95.

First of all, I think it’s great that your listening to and acting on player concerns.
Second, I just started using it today and it feels great. The view feels a lot less “constricted”. My norn is no longer takes so much space.
There one thing that bothers me a bit though: the environment looks ‘fuzzy’. When I first put it on, I kept rubbing my eyes thinking I had something in it! (I’d just woken up…). Don’t know if this can be helped at all, maybe it’s just my settings as the screenshots shown in this thread don’t seem to have this issue. I did a jumping puzzle recently, Chaos Crystal Caverns where there’s sparks that change the camera view and character size, etc. Didn’t notice if things get ‘fuzzy’ in that case also…

I’m using the FoV for 2 days now and since I use it I experience some issues I didn’t experience before, e.g. quite long lags, or screen load times (not while zoning but while walking around) and sometimes even broken images (like color problems or artifacts). this mostly occurs when getting POIs or opening the map. I’m using an Nvidia GTX 460 with driver 306.97

I’m not going through 9 plus pages of comments to see if it’s been posted already so I’ll juts drop it here anyway. For a reason I cannot fathom, if I start the game with the added comments … my dodge key is disabled. (It’s button 4 on my mouse) Remove the comment and it’s back to normal.

I am sure, they would find resolution (native and in game), monitor size, and refresh rate info helpful too.

As some have mentioned before, the water reflection is buggy with the new FoV. Not only are reflections off when rotating the camera, but it’s not handling critical angles well (e.g. camera pointed near parallel to the water produces what looks like screen tears).
There is also a noticeable performance drop (about a 10% fps drop on average), though this feels like a reasonable thing.

LOVE IT!!! Thank you!
Also, not sure if it was already mentioned… But, what happened to the zoomed out view that we could have during Halloween, namely in the Mad King dungeon? I really really enjoyed the ability to pull my view out that far.

it’s definitely a step in the right direction! on a 1920×1080 it’s working really good! will keep this setting and looking forward to be implemented as a “normal” feature!
the downside: taking relatively much performance. tested in LA it takes about 6 to 12 FPS extra what’s actually about 20-35% of all FPS (especially in LA the framerate is very low). if this “problem” is not fixable it may cause some real trouble for some players if it would be turned on by default and can’t be turned off! please keep that in mind!
nevertheless a really good job! keep on going!

My feedback: If this is going to be introduced in the game, please do not force everyone to use this new FoV; it should remain optional. Also, the reflection problems that occur with this change needs to be fixed. I’m surprised they aren’t getting more attention in these comments.
Seeing “more” (to a point) is probably always going to be preferable. However, after extensively testing this I’m honestly not a fan of the loss of visual quality. I don’t like distortion/fish-eye problems that occur towards the edges of the screen. And while you can stand in the middle of a wooded area and the new FoV causes it to look so much “deeper”, things also look so much more inferior – I assume this is because I’m seeing the lower detail LOD models more often with this change.
On top of this there is a performance hit. So, we have worse graphical quality combined with worse performance versus being able to see more.. some will prefer the latter over the former while others have their priorities reversed. It’s why this change needs to remain optional if it’s going to be introduced into the game or you risk upsetting one of the two camps.
As for the players insisting they be able to see more sky and less ground and requesting a vertical camera adjustment.. yes, I agree a screenshot can look more aesthetically pleasing when more sky is showing than ground beneath the character’s feet. The ground in games rarely gets the attention to detail as the objects above it. However, as a player who prefers melee characters I appreciate the fact that we can see more ground surface surrounding our character, as it allows me to more easily track the opponents and allies fighting around me. Showing more sky means being able to see less of what is directly behind you as your character’s feet are moved closer and closer to the bottom of the screen, and so I am not in favor of that requested change.
While I wouldn’t use it, perhaps you can go the route other MMOs have gone and provide players with the option to shift their character placement on the screen slightly to the left or right. That would cut down on the number of complaints regarding being able to see directly ahead of your character.

Love the field of view option being able to see more of my surroundings w/o my character taking up most of the screen space. Before and After, respectively.
