FPS DROP WITH NEW PATCH
I am experiencing the same just even worse. I’m on a Macbook pro 2.3ghz i7 16gb ram, ssd, latest platform with NVida 750m 2gb gpu.
Before patch at 2500×1400 medium settings I run at 90fps in small scale and 1v1, 40 in zergs and 20 in full server blobvsblobvsblob.
Now after switching down to 1080p and from medium to low standing still 40fps moving around alone 20 fps in a zerg vs zerg 5 fps.
Even LA is creeping at extremely low frame rates now.
Some “fixes” needs to be removed as the game is pretty much unplayable atm.

Same thing here. I just got 1 fps in WvW, clashing with a zerg. Yesterday I had 25 fps with no issues even having 3 zergs go head-first into each other. Whatever you did in this patch, please revert it or the game is dead to me.
I’ve played since headstart, I don’t want to see GW2 die like this.
MacBook Pro 2.2ghz i7 8gb ssd w/AMD Radeon 6750M 1GB
(and yes, I am running it on low graphics settings on everything).
Same here, WvW is unplayable as soon as I encounter enemies…
I am running on MacBook Pro Retina 15" (First gen = i7/nVidia GT 650M) OSX 10.9.1.
Same here, WvW unplayable since patch.
I am on a mac and I am seeing a drop to like 4 or 5 FPS .. making it unplayable .. other mac players are seeing this issue too..
Its not just me ..

For the record, i don’t have Mac but i do play on Linux over WINE
Seems this is all mac related, Why not move this post over to the Mac Forums?
Linux users should also Follow, even if using Wine/Cedega.

HAHAHAHA we came over here from the Mac forums because staff stopped reading that board MONTHS ago. Until this issue gets addressed officially us Mac users are desperately trying to get attention to it as the game is unplayable.
Just adding my voice in the hope that something will be done soon. Its like back than, when everyone was encountering massive problems when zergs appeared on screen. When there is a massive fight, the FPS go down on their knees.

Correct! .. We need the attention of the Anet devs to recognize this problem affecting nearly every mac user… At 4 frames per second the game is unplayable. ..
I used to play at 50~60 FPS in Divinity’s reach using a mix of high~low settings. Now I’m playing at 5~15 FPS. My CPU usage now is always at 10% to 20%.

Any DE or WvW is a choppy 1-10 fps blur on my screen. There is literally no reason why my machine should be struggling this hard to render medium graphic settings, let alone the low graphic settings I’ve been reduced to.

It’s more than 12 hours now since the first post. I hope devs come and check this out. I can play other games just fine but GW keeps on giving me 5~15 FPS in an idle map.

Have you considered the Bug Forum?
the Mac Client is still in Beta, AFAIK, Short of Calling their support or reporting to the Bug Forum there isnt much else you can expect :-)
Its obviously an Engineering issue with the software update on OSX. However, just like your mac Forum, we dont get much Anet responses here either.

I think the difference here is that they actually broke the mac beta client with this patch. It is now unplayable in group content. You would expect them to at least acknowledge it.
I’ve seen quotes that say mac users are estimated to be about 6 to 8% of the people who play MMOs. If that holds true for GW2, then they broke the game for 6 to 8% of the player base and have yet to say a word about it.
One would think that they would just roll back the changes and work on a new implementation that doesn’t break the mac beta and then roll it out again when it is stable. They couldn’t have possibly done any real testing on a mac beta client since the results are so obvious and dramatic.
And, I agree that communication is a problem across the board.
Here is a screenshot of from playing in the WvW zone last night to give everyone an idea of how severely broken this patch is for all mac users..
(and yes there are threads on the mac forums and the bug forums too!)
How about dropping that res from 2560×1440 down to 1080p or 1600×900 to see if that helps?

It played perfectly fine before the last patch.. and I was getting great frame rates at that same rez with way more stuff turned up and not off/low/none .. (that rez is my native display resolution btw)
I could try as an experiment but the problem is without a doubt something they did to the graphics rendering engine..
My preference isn’t to band-aid the issue but have aNet fix it properly.
all of you listing your computers specs are much better than what im running so I can throw out that “its my computer/graphics card” that is the problem. the game since this patch is absolutely unplayable and this problem seems to come up every time some new content is released. and playing in world verses world? haha yea, thats a joke right now. even if Im nowhere a big fight massive skill lag and rubber banding. partied a few enemy players and they thought i was hacking because of the way I was moving. it looked like a speed glitch to them.
. 5-20 fps for me constantly no matter where I am, all with lowest settings. I was running around by myself in fields of ruin last night and my frame rate did not improve, within 5 minutes of being in game I started rubber banding all over the place, restarted/shutdown my computer multiple times, let it rest before rebooting and logging in and it didnt make a difference. I seriously dont know what to do at this point.

I wish we had a bit more to share but this is on the fix list and is being worked on!

Thanks for the info, Gaile. I’m not sure if it’s related or not, but is that bug linked to the massive increase in lag and disconnects that I and many other players have been experiencing lately?

The producer who shared the info in the update was specifically speaking about Mac issues. If you’re using a Mac, then yes, I imagine that this bug is related. If you’re using a PC, then I’d think not. I see there is a thread for Network Latency in this forum, and you’re welcome to post there, if you’d like. Basically, the update relates to Macs in this particular case (although all cases of across-the-board latency would be investigated).

I think Anet needs to spend 1-2 hours a day in the Tech Support forums to address wide spread issues of the game. Whether or not its in Anets control to fix.
Going days, to weeks, with out a single solid response on some issues it very VERY disheartening. And VERY unprofessional as a company.
Gail – Please bring this up to your Supervisor and see if something can be done in the future to get more Anet exposure on THESE types of forums.
Tech Support shouldn’t only be run by us volunteers.

I suspect it’s not just a mac issue I’ve asked around there are those ignorant ones on overflows that just blame the user’s machine and network and many players experience very few performance problems but then there are a fair number too that even with a good machine get issues. (Windows users at that) Lag issues started for me ironically after the first birthday of this game when much of the UI would be invisible for a time, lowering game settings doesn’t help oddly… WvW I haven’t done much of recently but it does seem to run better than Scarlet’s marionette and the wurm event, especially the marionette with the warden battles, lots of issues there!
I thought for months this 2 week updating system was opening a can of worms/wurms and sad to say it is holding true… The trading post often doesn’t connect either, much work to do! Still a great value for money this game is but it does sadden me last time I logged onto SWTOR it’s become the case that that broken game runs more smoothly than this!
I got the same issue, I’m using windows 7 though..
specs FX-6300 & HD4870, got 25-30 fps at peak hours before the patch, now I’m getting 18 fps even at non peak hours at LA….
note that other games are running fine

Hello Gaile, when can we get an update on the fix for Mac? Much appreciated.
Any status updates on this issue?
Any status updates on this issue?
I dont know, I hope they come up with something soon. I sucks to waste money on the Gem store and find out later that the game has become unplayable.
Same here. I am running Windows 7 with Intel Core i7 2700k with GeForce GTX 670 and 16gb of ram. Run around 30 fps (all medium settings or below), and will drop to 12fps or lower in WvW or big events or towns in GW2.
Mac version currently has a unique issue KK, you are just having expectations popped in WvW, which sucks for everyone. Most people “fix” it by adjusting the Character Model Quality settings as well as reflections and shadows when playing WvW. Frame rate tends to grind to a halt as the number of other players, not NPCs, increases.
So leave the Mac players with this thread, you already have your one thread.

At the moment i have all my settings at the lowest they can go or disabled if applicable on my Mac and I would absolutely kill to have 12FPS in WvW right now (its not anywhere near what I used to have but at 12FPS i could actually play Gw2 again). Be fortunate that you have such great FPS in WvW ..
Anyone know if todays patch includes a fix to the FPS problem ?
No – if anything it got worse.
Anet, if you DO find what’s causing it, can you share some detail IF it is Cider-related? Those of us on Linux will fix it ourselves – if you share the “what” part, we’ll take care of the how. If it’s YOUR code, then we’ll just deal with it.
The massive FPS drop for us started at the same time as it did for the Mac users.
Actually for me on my iMac it seems fixed now.. perhaps better than before the Feb 4th patch as now I can have all the eyecandy set by auto-detect enabled and get 30+ fps in the wvw battlegrounds, EB and the new mists zone..
