FPS Issues on HIGH-END XPS?
Strong repeating skills.

sigh the forums are bugged, it repeated what I typed multiple times, but when I go to edit it, it just shows what I originally wrote..
Have you checked your running temps on CPu/Gpu? Overheating can cause your Cpu or Gpu to throttle reducing performance.
Have you checked your power settings?

Running temps are fine, laptop doesn’t get too hot. I also have a dual-fan cooling mat. This laptop barely ever gets hot and it’s a powerhouse. I always have it set to high performance.

I wouldn’t really call the GTX555M a powerhouse. It’s the equivalent to a 9600GT desktop graphics card which is very low end.

What version is your nVidia GPU driver? If you can, upgrade to the 306 series WHQL driver or the 304 series Beta driver. Also, did you check which area you were in + # of players around you when you got the 60FPS vs when you got the 15-20 FPS? You also don’t want to compare beta performance with release because devs may have disabled a lot in a beta.
Also…
“1080P 3D model” + “Nvidia GT555M 3GB DDR5”
My desktop GTX 550Ti (about double the GPU that you have in processing power) doesn’t stand a chance running GW2 at 1080p max settings unless in a REALLY dull area (e.g. Shiverpeaks looking at snow with no enemies around). Also I think it goes without saying that you don’t want to have 3D (stereo vision) enabled.
(Your CPU is fine as long as you don’t have viruses or bloatware clogging your computer.)
In case you don’t believe me about your graphics card, (I don’t know if I’m allowed to post URLs) but look for the Tom’s Hardware article named " Guild Wars 2: Your Graphics Card And CPU Performance Guide". They show you’ll want a desktop GTX 560 at least to be comfortable with max on a 1080p display.
My laptop is allmost identical to yours 2630k gt555m 4gig ram w7 snd runs fine 30/50 fps with most settings on high, but I am running @1600x900 though.
So it should be running fine tbh, have you tryed updating the driver my laptop is running the 306.23 driver aand it seems to be pretty good.
Also make sure you have the power option set to high performance n the sytems tab on your control panle, and you could try manualy selcting the Nvidia GPU by right clicking on your GW2 launcher and choseing the option from there aswell, had the problem in the past where sometimes it would launch games useing the Intel GPU instead.
@Cbuzz seriously you think the gt 555m is only as fast as a 9600gt? lol is all I can say to that one.
Ok it is not a poerhouse, but it’s not that bad tbh been seriously impressed with the performance you can get out of the card runs most games at a decent frame rate you have to turn a few of the settings down in some games, but I havn’t installed a game yet on my laptop that it won’t run.
Not sure where I would place it compared to a desktop card I think it use a slightly cut down verssion of the gts450 106/108 core so would guess around the gt440 performance which well still being low end it is still alot faster than a 9600gt.
@OP: it’s a laptop, that inherently makes it at least 2-3 generations behind desktops in terms of CPU and GPU power. Most desktop users would call it garbage specwise and not “high end”. No one played Crysis or WoW at launch on a laptop, GW2 is no different.
@Brem: “seriously you think the gt 555m is only as fast as a 9600gt? lol is all I can say to that one.” loollolololololololol. Google shows these scores:
9600GT desktop card: ~4500
GT 555m laptop card: ~4800
GTX 560 desktop card: ~16000
Sorry to say, 8% better than “very bad”, is still “very bad” compared to a 300% increase.
Edit: desktop560 score.

Are you 12 years old? You should probably calm down with the nonsense. You are starting to sound like MartinSPT.
What he is saying is mostly correct. A top in laptop is really only about as good as a mid level desktop. If you are expecting 30-60FPS at 1920×1080 on a 555M you might be shooting for the moon. The sad part about the 555m are the many variations among the laptop makers. Some are very very bad and some are ok.
I have an I7-2670M, 12GB DDR3, 570M 3GB DDR5. At 1920×1080 it runs anywhere from 40-100FPS. It just depends on what’s going on. In big PVE zergs with massive particle effects and what not it will drop down to the 20s.

Thanks for pointing out I looked at the wrong bar on the chart. Desktop GTX560 should be scoring about 2x that amount @ 16000 or so.
5000 vantage score is comparable to a GT630, which is the absolute basement in the budget department. Not mid-range. People need to stop having unrealistic expectations of their hardware.
Exactly, having a GPU start with number GTX 6xx or HD7xxx doesn’t mean you can automatically run games at max or high FPS. It also doesn’t mean it’s faster than GTX5xx or HD6xxx.
First number is the series, second digit the is GPU range from Budget Low End, Performance and High End and so on.
1st of all your pc is not high end so it’s not supposed to run it maxed @60fps all the time however it still doesnt change the fact that the game is broken graphic-wise, wait for a fix cuz overclocking and kitten does not impact the performance as much as you might think it would. You will only end up damaging your laptop eventually. Also do you have that low fps in spesific areas like WvWvW & Group events or just solo pve? be more clear when you describe cuz it would help us help you.
