I have the same problem as well, and tried EVERYTHING to fix it and nothing worked. I just decided to uninstall the game and plan on downloading and re-installing it sometime; it’s a little bit rough to download 16 GB on a 2 MB download connection where others need to use the internet as well (wireless via towers).

I have the latest drivers, tried the setups, updated Flash & Shockwave for all browsers & tried disabling them, everything; none of which even mitigated the problem.

I’m fed up with retorts from other players that apparently don’t have any friends or a need to open the guild tab that ask why we feel the need to open it whilst running around; because we have friends, we’re running in circles around Lion’s Arch bored to death, and need to check who’s online and invite them to group.

If the “clean” download and install doesn’t work, then I give up. I’ll wait to play the game until it is ready to play.

Do u guys realize ur problem is most likelly hardware related since 99% ppl don’t have this issue right? I mean everybody points their fingers on Anet when most of the time this kind of issues have nothing to do with the game.
I have no idea what is wrong with ur rigs, all i can recomend is to try diagnose the issue. Download monitoring tools and see what happens when u get the FPS hit, see if ur clocks (CPU/GPU) go down or something like that. Something is for sure and that is the developers have a lot more important thing to fix on this game than this kind of particular problems, so don’t wait for them to come here and tell u how to fix it…. not gonna happen anytime soon, have some iniciative and try fix it for yourself.

When I open the FRIENDS window I start lagging (1-10 FPS), I have 5 contacts and my normal FPS is 30 minimum without that window opened.

I have atleast 20 people on my friends list and my FPS (even in LA at around 35fps) only drops 3-5 FPS for a second or two when i first open the friends list.

If you don’t have the OS disk, most notebook/desktop pc vendor provide a backup image to restore the system to factory defaults.

That, or try uninstalling flash/shockwave completely to see if it helps.

If it’s just the friends list, I know you would like it to work better, but that is far from a showstopper playing.

It isn’t a problem only experienced by 1% of the population, thats ridiculous.
I experience this when i open the Guild and Friends window. My guild is rather large, and that can kill FPS with the roster open. Perhaps its another side effect of bad SINGLE THREAD performance (also the reason WvWvW sucks for most people, and major cities)
I won’t stress out to fix it, as there are bigger fish to fry, LIKE WVWVW and CITIES. But i do know what you are referring to, and I can reproduce the problem easily.

Yep, my hardware must be the issue, especially since the rest of the game performs better when the friends list specifically isn’t open, and no other game experiences such an issue, and that this issue didn’t happen before to me in GW2 in the past :p Also lol at 99%

Also, I noticed I have the same problem too. Can’t say I open my friends list too often, but framerate does drop.

I’ve now tried uninstalling and re-installing shockwave & flash player and uninstalling, downloading, and re-installing the game and it didn’t fix it. Very….disappointing. Oh well, I’ll just try to play an MMORPG alone – without looking at my friends list or the guild tab – to avoid the situation. -_-

Didn’t read the other posts.
Has it been suggested to disable hardware acceleration in flash (open any youtube video -> right click -> settings -> uncheck “enable hw accelereation”)? A lot of non-reference board vbios’ still have P-state clock problems.
