FPS drops every 10 seconds
welcome to our Tyria, dont know how long its going to take till they fix this lag, more and more ppl getting everyday. new patch comes more ppl hit by lag.
Oh so it’s happening to more people
I’ve asked in my guild if anyone knew how to fix it and nobody was having this problem, and people I’ve group up with the same thing so I though that was the only one having FPS drops so frequently
Yes, I have the FPS issue too – since the last patch/build. Nothing had changed on my end but I’m seeing 7fps in LA and other built up areas as well as when there are a few players/NPC’s around.
I have a support ticket open regarding this and the ANet folks(and I must say, kudos to them for the quick responses) have had me try a few things. Nothing has solved the issue yet but we’re still looking at it
I’m hoping a new build comes out soon that reverses whatever happened last time

Tbh i also suffer from lower fps, wvwvw mostly since the latest build ( and have heard others ingame complain about the same thing )..I noticed it right away,it’s not due to my drivers or anything,i reinstalled all of them properly, did a repair and deleted local.dat.The fps problem remains.
same…. used to have 40+ fps , now stuck with 7-10 fps….
Hi
Since the recent patch (not the one that brought the JP, the Aetherblade Retreat patch) I have this problem, wherever I go, if I see someone (even really small grupos) my FPS drop from 30/40+ to 7 or less. Idk wh this is appening, I’ve tried cleaning old junk I have, run the game in Best performance graphics and nothing works. i’m not a expert with computer so I really need help here. Just before I posted this I’ve tried to do the Aetherblade Retreat dgn and this happened every 10 seconds or even lessIf someone can help me please do it
Please provide a system spec or a game advisor log along with your CPU & GPU temps under load (atleast after 15mins of game play and 15mins of idle )
You might be suffering from overheating issues… Fps drops in specific intervals sounds to me like thermal throttling.
TBH, I’m pretty sure it’s not overheating. I have the same issues and ran temp checks. They’re in this thread:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Graphics-lag-since-last-build
I’ve also ran an MSCONFIG with no apps running in the background (except the obvious MS ones) and I’ve also ran an Unigine test where I achieved 50fps and a max of 108fps – both of these tests at the behest of Anet with whom I have a ticket open.
This has only happened since the 2nd July build.

Its not related to heat here either,GPU temps around 60 – 62c,CPU at around 50 – 54.Also..playing the witcher 2 with ubersampling just fine…really, like not even the slightest stutter.Yet gw2 since recently just feels incredibly stuttery, and lags way more then it did before.Tried out different drivers etc,it didnt do a thing.

I second this, though, those who are having this problem should use CoreTemp for CPU temps, since 90% of the time CPUTMP and Core temps are much different, the later is more important than the first.

Mikikira, I’m pretty sure temperature is not part of the equation here. I have this when starting GW2 almost from cold and the temp tests I did in the thread I linked above show no abnormalities.
Before the last build, I was playing with most settings on high or max and everything was super smooth.
Now, I can set the preset option to “best performance” and the graphic lags are still there although not so pronounced.
I’ll admit to not having the technical nous to completely rule out overheating but it seems really suspicious that the last build introduced this issue.

Okay, let me log in and then I’ll provide that info. Idk but at what temp is the “normal” temp of CPU & GPU when playing GW2?
My computer has Intel Core i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz, 6,0 GB RAM and a NVIDIA GeForce GT 525 M (not much but is what I can aford, I can play with almost Medium Graphics and have a 40+ FPS, except in WvW when 2 large zergs fight, then FPS drop but those drops where normal, I’ve them since the beggining)

Just because build A didn’t have heat problems, doesn’t mean build B won’t. Most processors today, both Intel and AMD have a Tcase/Tjunction limit in which when hit or past throttling will occur. Intel lists 67.4C° for the Core i5’s and i7’s. AMD recommends 62C° for all FX and Phenom IIs. Only way to fully rule out heat is to test and see. Because of GW2 being CPU heavy you can’t just load up any old game and expect the same load onto the CPU. Takes all of 5 minutes to rule heat out of the equation.

Well if i’m not wrong, the razer game booster tell’s me that my CPU is aroud 79 to 94ºC and my GPU is around 71ºC. I’m playing for maybe half-hour.
So how do I solve my problem of overheat?

Try with CoreTemp not Razer GameBooster, that only reports the motherboard CPU temp sensor. We need to know what your actual CPU CORE temps are not what the motherboard “thinks” it’s is. Most GPUs are safe up until 80~85ºC. But as I stated for Flat, most CPU CORE temps are good for 62~68ºC. Complete shut down happens at around 70~72ºC.
But if the cause is overheating, simplest way to solve it if what your playing on is a desktop. Is to invest in a better CPU cooler, air is good, liquid is better. All depends on what you wish to invest in it.

Well, tomorrow I have a tech guy coming around to “fix” my PC. By that I mean temp diagnostics, cleaning etc. I would do that myself but um… my rig is too heavy to shift. After that, I’m going to run CPU-Z and see what the outcome is.
I have been in contact with NCSoft and Anet and they have said that, although my temperatures are still OK, the GPU ones are causing a concern as they are above what they should be given that I’m cooling on air with no GPU o/c.
Now… a question to you gurus, if I may. My mobo is an Asus P6X58D-E ( http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P6X58DE/ )
My GPU is an ATi Radeon 5970.
Yes, I know both of those are a couple/few of generations out-of-date. I also have an i7 980x o/c’d from 3.33 to 4ghz.
The questions therefore becomes: could I fit an Radeon 7970 to that board and, if I did, could I expect a significant increase in FPS?
Many thanks.

You can have better performance overall but you will still be bound by the CPU due to the coding of the game. a 7970 will fit in (pci-e 3.0 doesnt mean that you cannot run it on a pci-e 2.0 slot) but beware 7970 is an enormous card make sure it will fit in your CASE and your PSU is able to feed it.
As for the Cooler its not the best in the market but if it keeps your cpu under 80C while gaming then its ok.
Hi,
I’d just like to post back on this subject with the latest I have on the FPS drop.
Firstly, I’ve just had my PC professionally cleaned to rule out dust overheating my rig.
Secondly, and with the excellent help of the Anet guys, I changed my in-game graphics settings thus:
Refresh rate = 60hz
Frame limiter = 60
Reflections = none
Render sampling = native
Enable v-synch
I also set shaders to medium which gave me an extra 3-4 frames to play with.
So, what do I get now? In rural areas I can get a 40-50% increase in frame rates by letting GW2 auto-detect then change the above to as shown. LA is still a lag-fest, even with the settings preset at “best performance” – and by that, I mean 9-12 FPS. If I leave the settings at best performance, I can expect a near maximum (due to the frame rate limiter above set at max) – 55-60 FPS in rural and “quiet” areas.
I also had some advice on my catalyst driver suite settings but nothing really needed doing there.
Going forward:
I still need to run GPU-z to completely rule out overheating.
I’m going to upgrade my GPU.
Give that last point, I’d really appreciate advice on the one to get given my mobo specs above. I’m thinking a 7990 but I have no objections to the highest spec nVidea card (observing any compatibility issues) I can get or possibly a Titan.
What do you think?
PS.
My case is a Corsair Obsidian 800D which has acres of real estate to hold quite a lot of stuff – I think it’s big enough for any GPU.

Well if you dont mind the SLi/CFX compatibility issues go for 7990 it performs better than titan since its basically 2×7970 however if you want to go for a single gpu go with Gtx780 because its basically Titan with cut down memory and bandwidth if im not mistake but the gpu itself is basically the same. And your case is big enough to fit a truck in it so no worries about that.
For the board I dont think your mobo will bottleneck the pci-e 3.0 cards eventhough the are dual gpus like 7990. (Pci-e 2.0 16x is equals to Pci-e 3.0 x8 slot in terms of bandwidth)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vfXALgE7mVM
this is merely a similar bandwidth comparison for the former dual gpu solution of the red team.
This seems to have happened to me now as well, running about with medium settings, getting around 50-60fps, dropping down to 25-30 or so when around others.
Now, its dropping down to like 7 fps, or worse.
Been using this pc since shortly after release, with no problems, fps just seems to have drastically dropped with one of these recent patches.
DXDiag attached.

I started playing a few days after the games launch and had no problems. This last patch(released on July 9th) however has dropped my frames down to 10-13(unacceptable). They where however in the 30-50 ranges the day before(playable). I updated my drivers to the most recent ones and that resolved the issue… HOWEVER today i logged in and i have the same problem.
I discovered if i Re-install the driver i already have installed it raises my FPS… i have no idea why but it does, and it seems i have do this every time i wish to play GW2 now.
Would like the devs to look into this matter ^
