I have played GW2 since BETA and had some problems before with my FPS but nothing like this. Now I can even get more than 10 FPS in LA and that’s on recommen settings.
I think I have a ok machine to play this game but now I am not sure anymore.
In fights with world bosses I have everything on low and still only gets maybe 15fps.
When running alone and all on max I have about 50FPS.

My system
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.1GHz
Card name: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 580

Try reinstalling your graphic drivers. When prompted for “custom install” choose that. Then click the box “clean install”.

I game on a laptop and get better FPS than that.

Also, try a “-repair” option on the game. http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Command_line_arguments

Unfortunately no computer out there can run this game on all max setting these are the setting I use on my i5:

Full Screen: 1680 × 1050
Refresh Rate: Default
Frame Limiter: Unlimited
Interface Size: Normal
Animation: High
Antialiasing: FXAA
Environment: High
LOD distance: High
Reflections: Terrain & Sky
Textures: High
Render Sampling: Native
Shadows: Low
Shaders: High
Post Processing: High
Character Model Limit: Medium
Character Model Quality: Medium
Best Texture Filtering: Unchecked
Depth Blur: Checked
Effects LOD: Checked
High-Res Character Textures: Unchecked
Vertical Sync: Unchecked
In LA I get 35 to 45 fps and explorable areas 60 to 80 fps don’t WvW much so not sure about fps there. You may have adjust these setting till you get the desired balance you like also double check and make sure all your drivers are up to date, video, motherboard chipset, network, and sound. Also look for a core unparking app some have had marked improvement unparking idle CPU cores that windows parks as an energy saving feature by default.

Opinions are like ______ everyone has one I could
put the correct term in but not everyone has kittens

Trying the -repair option now.
Last night I did some settings change
all on medium
Character Model Limit: low
Character Model Quality: low
After I reloaded the game in LA I have about 15fps and some places maybe 35fps still in LA.
What I realy hate is when I do go for the big world bosses then I will still go down to 5-10fps and thats very sad..dont mind so much about LA because I can just stay away but want to kill stuff with other players and that’s not very fun right know.

If your graphic card is an OC version, try set it to normal core and ram settings as it’s specified by it’s manufacturer. I’ve had the same problem and it helped me to maintain higher frame rates than it was OC’ed.
The same issue might happen when you have OC’ed CPU.

Good luck!

This is a good suggestion. Back in the days of Radeon HD 5000 series graphics chips, Radeon HD 5770 would refuse all overclocks. Juniper XT chips were very horrible on anything over a very VERY slight overclock. Even all the factory overclocked versions of the graphics card performed like crap until owners reduced frequency to original OEM spec. My Radeon HD 5770 was no different (even though it kicked the crap out of the 4870 so I wasn’t complaining! Haha)
