I made this thread to judge exactly how much of a difference a TRUE beast gaming rig is in GW2.

What I am asking for is anybody that has NO LESS than a Intel i7 3930k 6 Core (preferably overclocked) and ATLEAST a couple 66oTi/670/680’s in SLI or 7870/7950/7970’s in Crossfire. This might be a stretch to find but I’m posting it anyway. Anybody that has a crazy rig like this, I would like to know how your FPS, CPU and GPU usages are during a pretty decent zerg vs zerg battle/war

I want to know how much GW2 can tax an extreme end gaming machine.

For reference, my 3570k @ 4.5Ghz hit 100% CPU usage during a 40vs30 zerg war at EB…
Didn’t check my OC’d 7850 but I’m sure it was around the same usage as my CPU.

The GPU requirment is unneccery.

i have a 3930k its OC’d to 4.6ghz HT enabled (12 threads). In WvW zergs GPU usuage drops liek a stone and CPU becomes the bottleneck. This means it would not matter if i had 2x 660ti’s or more.

Anyway WvW (Culling settings: Texture: Low, CharacterLimit: highest) FPS: Massive zergs 20-25. Normal sized zergs ~30

CPU usuage around 35-50%.

GPU usuage when not bottlenecked is usualy 80% to max (LA, Pve, Light WvW). I am GPU bottlenecked atm, but thats becouse i was waiting on the 780, which should be out this month

GW2 does benefit from a i7 CPU. The i5’s as u have found can hit the 100% usuage mark. But the benefit is small, performance is stil lhorrible thanks to the usless game engine, it just doesnt utilize ALL of what a i7 has to offer.

I’m getting and average of 50-60 fps with peaks of 144 and lows of 4. Lows seem to come when maps or new areas are being loaded. Following gear:

Asus Rampage IV Extreme
i7-3930K – not overclocked.
64GB DDR3 1866 Ram
2 GTX 690’s in Quad SLI
3 – 27" Viewsonic monitors in 5760 × 1080
Wired ethernet giving me 27Mbps.

People on this forum have told me that the lows are because of the game itself and not bottlenecks in my gear.

You never mention what settings you are playing at, in particular your resolution.
