Thats odd to say the least. Can one pause the movie, use another browser, or use HTML5?
lol…
or just stop at 2) and be done with it unless superstition is your thing.

Well it did something.
It decreased my framerate by 1.
I’ve been doing this for some times.
I am running 40-60 fps now on my alienware m17r3 rig now.. before this it was 6-14 fps
… happy happy
Also, make sure you are running dual channel for your rams
Such a funny guy…

That puts the graphics card on 3D mode and performance clocks, nothing more. So for some reason, the game doesn’t do that on some systems.
Also, make sure you are running dual channel for your rams
This is an important point.
If your RAM isn’t installed in matching pairs of capacity and speed (and preferably brand/model) you’re RAM is running at half it’s theoretical maximum speed.
This can actually result in a huge difference in everything, not just game performance.
If your MB doesn’t support this, then methinks you need to find another MB.
I am running a M17xR3 with 8 GB RAM dual Channel, ATi 6970 with RAID 0 SSD. Windows Index is 7.5 and I play other games enjoyably.
Whenever I start GW2, my FPS go low 14-18. Trust me on this, For those Alienware users with high end GPU load the game and it’ll be crappy.
So, ALT-TAB and load your IE and play a short clip from www.youtube.com (just load it and let it finish in the background) and then alt-tab back to GW2 check your FPS..
For you guys facing this low miserable FPS issues, try this out, doesn’t cost you a thing to try it.
My settings in GW2 is everything high except I off FXAA and Shader set to low. You can tweak it to your liking once you have youtube.com loaded in the background. I play the game at 60 fps now in most places and 40-50 fps when we are having a gang bang session in events.
And thanks Draeath.8536, it is true.
I’ll also be pumping my RAMs to 32GB later.
I’ve been doing this for some times.
Sweet, I hope players with the same issues get to benefit from this. And I hope ArenaNet get this issue solved.
are you sure about that?
can you look at my dxdiag please and tell if can play this game or no?

Like mentioned, sounds like your video card is stuck in 2D mode (which means lower speeds) and for some reason it’s not going into 3D mode when playing Guild Wars 2.
Other fixes you could try, if you don’t want to have youtube running:
a) add a Guild Wars 2 profile to your videocard settings
b) try different drivers
dez your reply is for me
After the long struggle of low fps in game.. Some ninja fix were put in as patches was rolled out..
Finally! the fix is found!
The solution is simple…
1) If you are having low fps problems like me…
2) If you are having low fps even with lowest settings on your class A GPU?Seek no more!
SOLUTION:
1) Make Sure you put in most stable DRivers
2) Start game and set settings to best performance
3) ALT-TAB to load IE
3) Go to www.YouTube.Com and stream a movie
4) Let the movie runs in the background
5) ALT-TAB back to GW2WALAAAA!!!! super smooth GW2
Enjoy!
Yes, that happens because windows uses a more precise global timer resolution when playing media content.
Thats hilarious that it actually works lmfao. All this low fps was due to just the game not being able to switch to 3D mode from 2D mode, talk about happy gaming now at 125-150
FPS
how do i switch to 3d mode!!!
If you use Nvidia, go to your global 3D settings, switch > power management mode > prefer maximum performance. > apply.
If your card is quite old, 9xxx or gtx2xx series, I wouldn’t recommend running background 3D/video programs, as it will actually slow your performance.
Download GPU-Z and monitor your clock speeds/temperatures instead. Your card shouldn’t get stuck at 2D mode, unless your driver is bugged. Reinstalling might help (clean reinstall), but I would suggest a complete system format if you face a lot of graphics driver crashes.
my card is amd radeon 6370M
As I said, download GPU-Z, go to the sensor tab, monitor your gpu usage and clocks while playing (don’t alt tab, check ‘while’ playing).
i download gpu-z how i see if im stuck in 2d mode?
to check when im playing? ok then a play in window mode?
Yes, right click the top bit of GPU-Z (the window part), and select “always on top”, then play the game while having gpuz on top of the game screen.
Check GPU usage, core clock speeds, memory controller load etc.
here! and now my friend!?

Nvidia users should look into http://blog.orbmu2k.de/tools/nvidia-inspector-tool with it’s Multi Display Power Saver module. While it’s mostly to work around the multi-monitor driver bug, you can use it to force performance/power states on either an application level or GPU/VPU usage threshold.
Personally I noticed that GW2 wasn’t always triggering the P0 (maximum) power state and used this to fix it.
This is also a great game profile and tweaking tool for your cards.

where do i change the value?
