The new instance “Fractals of the Mists” has been great, and everything plays fine except for Solid Ocean / Jade Quarry fractal (the one with last boss “Jade Maw”).

That particular fractal is a bit laggy for me (motion is a bit slow), but the last part at the boss encounter is by far the worst. That part is unplayable with a true slide show. I tried every possible option, from changing gfx options to lowest possible, window/full screen and even upgrading video driver, to no avail.

I know there are a couple of other specific areas in the game that slow my game down but it they are still playable; however, the jade boss fight in that fractal is agonizingly slo-mo.

Has anyone else experienced this?

It is a custom-built system that I assembled 5 years ago. I know it is old now, but it still runs pretty much everything very well, including GW2, expect for the Solid Ocean / Jade Quarry part.

I took note of the FPS during that fight and it is @ 25 fps, but everything is a slow-motion slide show. Someone said it could be the transparency glow on the jade blocks that could be causing that? No idea.

CPU: Intel E8400 @ 3.6 Ghz
M/B: Asus P5E3 Deluxe
RAM: 4GB Corsair DDR3-1600
V/C: XFX GeForce GTX 285 1GB DDR VRAM
PS: Tt Toughpower 850w
Monitor: LG W2252TQ 1680×1050
OS:: Win XP SP3 (yeah it still works fine for me ;P)

I tried every option I can think of. Today, I did a clean driver update and I also tweaked settings in “NVIDIA Control Panel” for better performance. Nothing helped so far

Am I supposed to upgrade my video card or is there some easier solution to this?

Try upgrade to win7/8, win XP is outadated in terms of multithread CPU performance. Download a trial version or something just for testing purposes. Win 7/8 are much more efficient using multicore processors.
Despite what critics says i think win 8 is amazing it boots/reset/shut down in 5-7 secs on my SSD, and everything runs smooth as silk i highlly recomend it over win 7.

Hybrid boot has its own issues, 8 is not worth the frustration learning its new annoying interface when you can just standby and only shut down for updates.

U can bypass the new interface, u have a standard desktop there, i never use the metro interface, believe me u don’t need it al all. Again, try it, see the boot speeds and u will just love it
Hybrid boots wors diferently on win 8, they made some huge improvments, i am a microsoft hater, i hated every single windows after win98 hehehe and i hate the new interface, but since u can just do everything on a desktop eviroment i can say win8 has some very good improvments, it performs a lot better, and it is totally worth a try. Again u can download a RTM version from interntet, and if u like it buy it before the trial period ends.

Treplos, get more ram. I had to RMA one of my 4gb sticks – running 4gb right now – and it shows only in some areas whilst most elsewhere it is fine. Did get some lag effect in the blizzard fractal last night too whereas before I haven’t had any problem with 8gb ram.

Of course, next week when I have my replacement ram, I expect to not have this lag-type effect, we shall see

…from elsewhere…
“I am not a complete idiot, there are some components missing still!” …

Hybrid boot is only available on 8, and for those who standby and only restart for windows updates, its made void anyway.

I do not think it is my system, for the simple reason that I have no problem in any other game or software, however demanding. 4 GB RAM should be enough to run this game at the lowest settings, but the problem I believe is in some of the visual/coding for that particular area.

I may try Windows 7/8 as a dual boot, but I feel my video card might be aging, and I may as well upgrade it for now. I am looking at a Gigabyte Geforce GTX 660 Ti for around $350.

Good news: for some reason, following the last patch, Jade Maw fight has become noticeably less laggy for me. I’ve tried it several times today and it is much better than before. I did nothing to my PC, so I suppose it was something Anet have done on their end.
