Thanks for the answer, i tried to come back at catalyst 13.4 but didnt work.
OK sounds like you stopped playing the game just before they removed culling from the game what culling did is is limited the number of players that you could see from your characters prospective this gave you better game performance but a lot of times you could not see the players characters you were playing with. So now you may need to lower some of your ingame graphics setting. Three of the of the setting that will help you improve fps is Shadows set to low, Character Model Limit set to medium or low, and Character Model Quality set to medium or low. Also if you adjust some of the other setting till you get a balance from performance and graphics quality. Good luck hope this helps.

It’s the game. I just spend $620 on an upgrade (new motherboard, new CPU Intel i7 4770k and DD3 memory). My video card is a Sapphire ATI HD 6950 Dirt 3 Edition (so I DON’T have hardware bottlenecks) Reinstalled Windows and everything.
Still I get 7 fps. I CAN’T play.

The problem was the PCI e port speed. It was stuck at 1x instead of 16×. Tnx to sirsquishy for the help.

Wow and that’s why I get 35 to 45 fps in LA and 65 to 80 in explorable ares on my i5 yes it’s the games fault you can’t test or trouble shoot your system or probably didn’t run a burn in test to see if there are any defective components. Yes and it’s the games fault just because you bought all new hardware you don’t think you need to check for driver updates. It’s the games fault you are most likely running a 32bit version of windows so all you can access is 3.5megs of what ever amount of ram you have it’s most likely you did something wrong when you assembled the system or you didn’t setup the BIOS correctly but yes it’s the games fault! Yes it the games fault that 1 out of 10 electronic components are shipped DOA!

I build my own gaming rigs since 286-386 cpu era. I’m a computer technician. The game started to give fps problems to people since one of the Guild Wars patches (google it) . I have tested and tried everything (the last resort was upgrading, thinking a got a CPU bottleneck. Even got an Intel CPU instead of a new AMD .The thing is, I own over 500 pc games. And the only one giving problems is Guild Wars 2. Yeah, I know, Guild Wars 2 is CPU intensive. And I have a HIGH end new CPU from the not so cheap Intel.
So make a guess why ARENA net made a STICKY FPS issue topic on this forum?
Cause the game is having fps issues.
Im not talking about 40 or 35 fps. Im talking about 7 to 15 fps max.
Which is unplayable.

If you have all the ingame graphics setting set to the highest setting unfortunately there is no CPU GPU combination that will run this game on max setting and give good fps, try these setting as a base to start:
Full Screen: 1680 × 1050 depending on your monitor
Refresh Rate: Default
Frame Limiter: Unlimited
Interface Size: Normal
Animation: High
Antialiasing: FXAA This may need to be change if you don’t get good results
Environment: High
LOD distance: High
Reflections: Terrain & Sky or this could be set to None if you don’t mind not seeing the reflections in water
Textures: High
Render Sampling: Native
Shadows: Low
Shaders: High
Post Processing: High
Character Model Limit: Medium or low
Character Model Quality: Medium or low
Best Texture Filtering: Unchecked
Depth Blur: Checked
Effects LOD: Checked
High-Res Character Textures: Unchecked
Vertical Sync: Unchecked
If this doesn’t improve fps then there is a driver or hardware issue going on. The game is a balance between eye candy and fps you may need to adjust more setting till you get what works for you.

I have tested all the solutions I have found (form Arena Net, and users). Even, I have installed ALL the AMD Catalyst drivers versions from 13.1 to 13.12 (using driver sweep to make clean installs).
I have a 4th generation Haswell i7 4700k micro architecture processor (the latest from Intel) that’s why I know its not processor related bottleneck. Also I tested and re tested with an AMD processor (I had a Phenom 4X) Had the same frame rates that I have now.
I tweak and tweak and tweak graphics settings (including resolutions), everything on low, and the frame rate stays the same : 8 fps. So, it means it isn’t graphic processor bottleneck either.
I have Windows 7 with Service pack 1. Everything is updated. Tested with a fresh Windows 7 install.
So, after testing with different motherboards, different processors, different memory, different settings and tweak, tweak, tweak. (while the rest of the new generation games tested (that need and ask for higher hardware specs than GW2) runs perfect at the highest settings… there’s only one conclusion:
It’s the game. One of the patches messed all up.
So, to the OP (Original Poster) don’t waste money or time like I did.

Verify your PCI-E lane Link speeds for your GPU. I saw the EXACT same issue when I first built my current Desktop and had all 3 PCI-E Slots linked. My GPU was only linked at 8x ver1.1 (its a ver3.0 card and slot).
The GPU was 99%, and cpu was only ever hitting 34-45% utilization per core.
Once I removed my other 2 PCI-E cards, my GPU linked at 16x ver3.0 and my FPS went through the roof.
So please use CPU-Z to check your PCI-E link speeds.

Hi, im going to be crazy whit this game, i have a fps problem, i have bough gw2 6 months ago, i have played for 1 month and one day my fps are collapsed, i have an ati raedon 7750, intel i3 550 3.20ghz, 6 gb ram and win 8 64 bit, i usually play the game whit rez 1600×900 all option at max whitout filter active, and i usually was around 35-40 fps, but one day i open the game and and the fps turns around 10-12 fps, even if i change the rez and the settings on low the game gains only 2-3 fps, i didn t find any solution so i decided to leave the game, 5 days ago, just to see if this problem was fixed i coming to play it again, until yesterday not one problem, the game was run very well, but today i have again the same problem, i have the latest catalyst 13.11 beta, i really dont know how solve it,
Anyway i m playng at other game in this moment and gw2 is the only one whit this problem,
Thank you for the answer.
Your 7750 and that i3 are going to be your bottle neck. You should be running the game with the following settings with that system;
All settings High, Except;
Anti-aliasing – None
Reflections – None OR Terrian & Sky
Textures – Medium
Rendering Sampling – Native
Shadows – Low or Medium
Shaders – Low or Medium (this is a limitation of your 7750)
Post-processing – None or Low
Character Model Limit – Low
Character Model Quality – Medium
Best Texture Filtering – unchecked
Effect LOD – Checked

Using only the PCI-E slot for the video card (a Sapphire Radeon HD 6950 Dirt 3 Edition with unlocked shaders). Tested unlocked and with stock firmware. Nothing else connected on the other PCI-E ports. Anyway , gonna check that now.

I’d be using;
CPU-Z to verify Link speeds
GPU-Z to verify Utilization/Temps and Core/Memory Clocking
MSI-Afterburner to 2nd verify utilization, and Core/Memory Clocking

Mr. sirsquishy, YOU ARE MY HERO. The port was working and stuck at 1x, even with no other PCI e card attached to the motherboard. I was about to give up when decided to run the smart quick boost utility (for OC). The overclock utility resolved the problem.
Now Im at 63 fps , with all graphic options at high. The problem was the port link speed.
Dude, tnx!
I bet that slice of humble pie is tasting real good about now “Yes it the games fault”
