Q:
GPU Died. Need a New One. Suggestions?
A:
OP – whats the rest of your PC?
You gave us a budget of 500~; while we can rec a good GPU to meet your needs, its possible you can upgrade other areas with in that budget.
As said, the HD7790 and the R7-260X will fit your needs perfectly($99-$129). To get into a Nvidia that meets those specs you need to look at the 660 or 750TI($129-$179).
With my system specs (HD7790, OC to 1850Core, 2100Mem Currently) I get between 90-165FPS, with Dives down to 25-30 for Zerg Content. In the new LA crap I get 45-75 depending on where I am at. Just to give you a couple examples.
Keep in mind, the lows on this game are all CPU bound.
And I would recommend a CX500 for the PSU if you already dont have a 500W PSU.
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
Radeon HD 7790 or R7 260X, or GTX 750/750TI should do the trick for the settings you desired and leave you some left over money for sure.
^those and everything more powerful are solid options. 750/750ti are the newest released, they have the best performance per watt ratio, HD7790 might be a kitteneaper. As for PSU, depending on how power consuming card you get, get a 500-600W unit from a reputable brand.
So my previous GPU decided it wanted to play checkers and died and now I’m stuck playing GW2 on lowest settings at 720p with my back-up GPU. I’m here asking what set ups you use and if you know about any decent power supplies and GPUs that don’t exceed $550 and meet most of my preferred settings.
Settings I’d prefer:
Minimum Screen Resolution: 1440×900 Anything smaller than this makes GW2 more about the HUD.
Preffered FPS: 60 fps in dungeons.
Animation: High
Antialiasing: None
Environment: High
LOD Distance: Medium
Reflections: Terrain and Sky
Textures: High
Render Sampling: Native
Shadows: Medium
Shaders: Medium
Postprocessing: None
Character Model Limit: Low
Character Model Quality: HighBest Texture Filtering
Effect LOD
High-Res Character Textures
do not change screen resolution . there is not need and you will not benefit from it .
check my sig link and read how i can play with an old amd cpu and old gpu and have stable and good fps even in www maps at 1080p . medium textures are the best textures for the game in all situations .
i recommend change your settings to :
Animation: medium
Antialiasing: None
Environment: medium
LOD Distance: Medium
Reflections: none
Textures: medium
Render Sampling: Native
Shadows: Medium or low
Shaders: low
Postprocessing: low or medium
Character Model Limit: medium
Character Model Quality: medium
Best Texture Filtering
Effect LOD
also . keep in my mind that the fps number you have depends more from sound settings and cpu than the gpu . if you set them the last 3 bars to lower in sound options ( not the sound levels but the sound processing ) you will have better and stable fps

I play more than just Guild Wars 2 and my backup GPU can’t play over half of my steam library on lowest settings, so I need to upgrade it.

The rest of my PC is fine and I understand that my CPU might be a bottleneck, but what I need the most now is a new GPU and PSU as the GT 520 I have only has 2Gig DDR3 vRAM and is rather slow.
Anyway, thanks for all the suggestions. You’ve given me a place to start looking.
