Your grandmother/uncle/sister/significant other has come into a bit of money and offers to buy you a GPU to enhance your GW2 experience. Do you:

A: Go for a Radeon 7990
B: Go for a GTX 780 (Twin Frozr edition)
C: Opt for a Titan coz, like, it’s top of the food chain (at least for now) man.
D: Choose a different configuration (please specify).

Thanks!

A 7850 is plenty for GW2. I’d personally get a 4670k+mobo and oc it a bit.

If I needed a GPU, probably a 780. GW2 doesn’t like CF, so 7990 is out, and a Titan isn’t worth it with the 780 available.

GPUs that strong dont enhance the GW2 experience. CPUs do.

For GW2 all are wasted money……for other games the 780……only b/c sli/cross-fire have issues that some ppl find unacceptable,

As to why:

The 7990 has cross-fire issues. Even though AMD has said they will be alleviating a lot of that soon, we don’t really know. What we do know is the 7990 is being discontinued. So specific update driver support for that card may be lacking with future iterations. Oh and it’s 950-100 bucks.

The Titan is boss of single gpu cards….no doubt about that, but it’s 950-1000 buck for 1 gpu.

The 780 performing near the titan capacity in games for 350 dollars less is a no brainer when opting between the two. On top of that if in the future sli gets better and you want to add a second the 780 scales better for gaming in sli than the titan. So for the same price you could on one had go titan sli for (lets round) $2k or 780 sli for $1300 and get almost the same gaming results…..or for the same 2k you could 3 way sli (giving issues get resolved) and crush the 2 way titan sli.

Granted I wouldn’t buy any of them as I would stick to a 770 or a 7970 ghz atm and throw in a water block for less, specially the 770 as the boost is reliant on temps.

I would put my money on a GTX 780, or save money and choose option D) GTX 770. In reality though, unless you are supersampling, those cards are a little over the top.

GTX 780.

The HD 7990 is a dual GPU card so it’s really CrossfireX in one slot. For technical reasons I’ve always dislike SLi and CrossfireX solutions.

The Titan is not that much faster (10%) over that model of GTX 780 but for a whole lot of more money (50%).

The game loves CPU power, so overclocking would be a good start. I would recommend waiting out on GPUs till Q4 of this year. I read AMD will release new models. It might be their next gen cards.

Also to note" Malta (7990) just got a price drop of bout 300 bucks putting it on par with a 780 in terms of price, as well as beta 13.8 driver addressing some of the crossfire deal.

This might cause me to reconsider.
