So I retired my almost 4 year old GTX 570 in favor of the brand new GTX 970. I also upgraded from 4 to 16 GB of RAM because I saw that the RAM was always full or almost full when playing.

The problem is I don’t see much of an improvement. Fps is still low where there are many players. Take a look at this screenshot. You can also see my video settings. 22 fps in Lion’s Arch?

My hardware:
Intel i5 2500k @ 4.9 GHz
16 GB RAM
MSI Gefcore GTX 970
Asus P8Z77-V LE
2 x Intel X25-M 80 GB

GPU has never been the problem with GW2 for what passes for a mid range card or higher nowadays, which your old GTX 570 was already. Therefore something uber like the GTX 970 (which is better than the GTX Titan at 1/3rd of the price) isn’t going to affect frame rate all that much.

Then what is holding the FPS back? Because the CPU is running at half speed and RAM is a little over 25% full.

I have roughly the same setup and replicating that screenshot, I’m running at 44 FPS @ 1920×1080. I normally have the model limit/quality set to low/medium however, so I’m normally at 80 FPS.

I originally had a GTX 570, but due to manufacturing problems, I had to slightly underclock it. As I felt it dying, I did some benchmarks and decided to overclock my CPU at the same time. Upgrading to a 770 resulted in a 5 FPS gain while overclocking to 5 GHz (from 3.4) resulted in a 20 FPS gain. I was hitting 72C under maximum load however, so I dropped it down to 4.7 to keep it within the 60C range.

Im getting higher fps maxed out with GTX560ti – sli,FX-8120 @ 4.6.Theres something wrong with your system,settings,drivers whatever..Set your character model limit and quality to Low,see what it does to your fps,afterwards try using a resolution like 1920 × 1080 ( if your fps is fine after this switch,it is a cpu bottleneck ).

Delete your Local.dat located in C:\Users\LEBENSBAUM\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2,
Delete the Gw2 cache located in C:\Users\LEBENSBAUM\AppData\Local\Temp.

Otherwise try to reinstall All drivers,including mobo,sound,internet,gpu, and reinstall properly.Make sure your card isnt running at 4x speed,make sure it isnt being throttled back,same for your CPU ( Use Coreparking tool to disable windows throttling http://coderbag.com/Programming-C/CPU-core-parking-manager ).If it doesn’t help reinstall windows.

hello same problem with gtx 970 only in GW2 low fps .

gtx970 is good gpu, but gw2 need Intel 100000€ nasa Oc 10ghz nitro CPU. XD for everytimes 60fps. Need optimize gw2 and use 4/6/8 cores full. XD Or chip ARM (+cpu in gpu) in the next geforce gpu. XD

In this game you’re cpu bound on 1440 display more than gpu. I’ve swapped out several gpu’s on 2 cpu’s to test and the only thing really making the difference was the cpu (ofc given gpu’s in range from hd7750-gtx780) Given this game and minor cpu gains since the 2500k, you’re pretty much sol at that resolution…..ie even going to a 4690k won’t really do that much for you for how much it’ll cost.

As resolution goes up cpu strain goes down AFAIK. Even though you are running a 2500k wh,ch is a game killer cpu @~5ghz and you get that much fps you might wanna start putting the game on lower settings. I’d start from FXAA and shadows. I personally run the game @4k resolution and I still experience those severe dips other than that Cpu utilization has gone down noticably while gpu usage is almost always 100% (except when those dips happen)

The issue is with ANet coding. It is garbage. It was crap two years ago, and it is still crap today. Until they optimize GW2 for multiple cores, nothing will change. The don’t even have adequate antialiasing modes after two years…

FXAA is “cheap” in terms of impacting framerate. Yes it smudges but just about any other AA method that isn’t a post process filter will take a much larger bite out of what framerates we are getting, I can understand that isn’t a huge priority.

Change your Character Model Limit & Quality to Medium, you’ll gain a lot of fps and won’t notice much of a difference.

Delete your Local.dat located in C:\Users\LEBENSBAUM\AppData\Roaming\Guild Wars 2,
Delete the Gw2 cache located in C:\Users\LEBENSBAUM\AppData\Local\Temp.

Otherwise try to reinstall All drivers
