I’ve played this game on my older rig and keep a constant 40-50fps on all low settings. I’ve been wanting to get more out of this game so I built a new rig and barely manage 25fps on low settings, any ideas?

Here are my new Specs:
Processor: Intel® Core™ i7-2600K CPU @ 3.40GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.4GHz (OC to 4.3GHz)
Memory: 4096MB RAM
Available OS Memory: 4078MB RAM
Page File: 2297MB used, 5854MB available
Card name: AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series
Manufacturer: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc.
Chip type: AMD Radeon Graphics Processor (0×6719)
Display Memory: 2798 MB
Dedicated Memory: 1015 MB
Shared Memory: 1782 MB

I have NO idea what could be causing the game to lag so bad on my rig, maybe bottlenecking. I really do enjoy this game and any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Two things;

First, I want you to check the temperatures of both your GPU and CPU while in the game after five minutes. This will allow the load temperatures to settle in to their maximum temperatures. If you don’t already have software that monitors your GPU temperature and CPU temperature, then I recommend getting HWMonitor, which can be found here:
http://www.cpuid.com/downloads/hwmonitor/1.23-setup.exe

Secondly, you’ll want to make sure your GPU is actually using all 16 2.0 PCI-e lanes on your motherboard. I usually do this by downloading GPU-Z, which can be found here:
http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/2252/techpowerup-gpu-z-v0-7-2/mirrors

Hi, thanks for the fast response! I checked to see if my GPU is using all 16 2.0 PCI-e lanes here’s what it says “PCI-E 2.0×16 @ x8 2.0”

Is that when you’re playing the game? Not at character select, but normal game play.

My GPU-z states “PCI-E 2.0 × 16 @ 16 2.0” in the bus interface box. It’s also got a question mark beside it. Would you know what that means?

Edit: That was taken in-game a few weeks back.

Edit2: No worries, I understand now.

Intel Core i7 2600K Temp: Core #0 46-50C, Core#1 48-51C, Package 47-51C
AMD Radeon HD 6900 Series Temp: 75C
HD6900 Bus Interface is still PCI-E 2.0×16 @ x8 2.0

Just checked bus interface, It says the card is capable of running 2.0×16 but is at 2.0×8
All of this was taken, 5minutes after starting the game, in open world.

@ x16 2.0 is the desired result. As for the question mark, I have no idea. However, it shows the question mark you mention in a screen shot on the application’s main website page:

Those temperatures are fine, that bus interface is likely the culprit. I would reseat your graphics card on your motherboard. Make sure the graphics card is in the slot closest to the CPU. The slot closest to the CPU is normally the primary slot that has the most lanes dedicated to it (x16 normally).

I’m with Ilithis Mithilander on this one. I would definitely recommend moving this card to the x16 slot to get the full benefits of the card. If the card is already in the x16 slot it is possible the issue you are experiencing is hardware related or bios related. Reseating is a good step to go with first.

I reseated the card and it is now 16×2.0 YAY! But the game is still just as laggy as when it was at 8×2.0. Anything I could tweak with, maybe in the bios? Or maybe my hardware is just not up to par for this game.

One problem down! Next I want you to define laggy, is it low FPS or actual latency you are experiencing? Latency are things like skill delay and avatars rubber-banding. Low FPS is…well low frame rates.

If its latency try guesting to a different server and see if it still exists, I want to test some theories I have about the latency issues people are having.

If its a frame rate issue, don’t play on super sampling or have reflections set to ‘All’.

It’s FPS, I have sampling turned to native and reflections on ALL. It seems the higher I OC my cpu the better it plays, but I don’t have inter cooling so anything higher than 4.2ghz would cause harm to my system. But my old rig only has 2.8ghz and it was able to run the game 40-50fps

Don’t use ‘All’ reflections, this should make it so that you experience 60 FPS in most areas of the game.

Also, if you’re in crowded areas like large WvW battles and large dynamic events, or in a populated instance of LA, you will experience lower frame rates. The more people on the screen, the more the CPU gets used, and eventually it can’t work fast enough to feed the GPU enough data to make enough frames per second. Normal PvE (by yourself) you should be experiencing 60 FPS at 1080p with all max settings besides super sampling and reflections set to ‘All’.

Yeah people tell me that on game when I send them my pc specs, but i’m not…sooo idk what the issue could be? Perhaps there is something in the bios I need to change for this game? Possibly the amount of cores being used per processor? Or it could be the number of processors itself.

I did that, and It did improve my fps, it’s no longer in the 10-15 but now in 20-30, so we’re making progress. Anything that GW2 runs better with?

Um, oops, /facepalm /redface and all that. That question mark I was seeing was from a screenshot rather than when running the app. /ahem.

If I run the app, the question mark drills down to another screen where a render test can be performed.

What can I say? It was late blah, blah, blah.
