Guild Wars 2

run a Quad Core System, GTX560, 4 gigs of ram on Windows 7 64 bit. If I can get into the game, it runs fine on ultra settings even.

The problem is getting into the game.

If the downloader tries to download, my computer freezes up

Background

1. Installed the game, and the first download it tried to do froze up my computer. I had to hard restart my computer at which point it went through “Repairing Data Archive”. Once that finished after a long time, it started to download again and locked up.

2. I went ahead and tried to re-install the game and had the same problem!

3. Third time it worked

4. Anytime a new download would come out, the system would freeze. I ran Malware Bytes additionally to make sure nothing in there besides using Avast. I starting running GW2 as administrator and turned off Avast when downloaded came up. everything seemed to work fine for past couple of weeks since I started doing that.

5. Yesterday, I disabled Avast as usual to download and it froze. I had to restart computer due to computer freeze again, and it did the “Repairing Data Archive” deal again for 30 minutes then starting trying to download about 200k files!!!! Of course, it locked up again before getting to 190k files remaining

6. Restarted again, turned off Avast again setting it for not coming back until restart. The Archive tool deal started again, after 30 min it game back again to download got to 170k files remaining after about 40 minutes and locked up AGAIN!

I have no clue how I can even play this game at this point. All my drivers are up to date, no infections, once in the game everything up to date.. its all about this downloader

since your system freezes, I presume you have no way of seeing the error GW2 produces… Can you try to check the Windows event log?

I think there’s definitely a problem with the patching process when GW2 starts. It just seems to express itself differently on different people’s computers.

Check if you can rename local.dat and gw2.dat or if you are prevented by windows when you try and post back plz…

My event viewer now does have two control errors.. event ID 7000 with Service Control Manager problem and an event ID 7001 concerning my Killer NIC

I do not think these are related though because while they are showing up now, I had several freezes before these showed up and only problem seems to still be with GW2. Plus these showed up after the last freeze and I had to hard reboot which is same time my clock went off the right time. I am guessing that was all more due to some mess up by improper shutdown.

I ran the Windows 7 troubleshooter on my Homegroup in networking and now I am not getting the 7000 error. Still getting the 7001 error, but at same time I wasnt seeing any new symptoms from either.

I tried creating/renaming a new .dat, but that did not help

I did have the game installed in the Programs Directory. I just uninstalled and reinstalled it to the desktop and only had time for a fast log in and it did not lock up, so maybe that was problem all along.

I will keep posted.
