Q:

I am an Australian studying Japanese part time. I also enjoy playing Guild Wars 2. I had been wondering why the US English input language kept appearing in the language bar, despite the fact that I’ve uninstalled it, and eventually I discovered that it was Guild Wars 2 causing this. I’ve locked down the registry key being modified, but the US English input language still gets loaded if I play the game. My only option is to reboot before editing documents.
When the extra input language is loaded, every switch between languages requires three keystrokes to cycle through the three languages. That doesn’t sound like much, but it’s seriously annoying when you’re doing classwork in a combination of Australian English and Japanese.
Can anyone please explain to me why Guild Wars 2 forces Windows to load a language which is uninstalled? Does this happen for users of other input languages such as UK English, or non-English languages like German or Korean?
The PC is running Windows 7 64bit SP1.

No suggestions? Nobody running GW2 with another language has this issue in Windows 7 pro 64bit?

Does gw even support Japanese language? My guess it doesn’t so I’d load the default supported language and that would be us English

GW2 does not have the font to support Hiragana and Katakana characters.

Without Japanese support in the game looks like you will just have to remember to switch it back after you finish playing. We had a guy from Japan in our guild for a while he never had an issue with it or if he did he never said anything about it so don’t know what to tell you.

Thanks for the responses but they miss the point. I don’t need GW2 to support Japanese, which is not set as the default language. The default language is English(Australia). English (US) is not installed. I can’t think of anything which might be typed in English (US) which cannot be typed in English (Australia). GW2 not only forces a change in the registry to install the English (US) keyboard, it forces the OS to load the language as well. I use a lot of other software and nothing else causes this to happen.

It’s not as simple as “switching it back”. I have had to make a registry key read only, and after running GW2 I have to completely reboot my computer to rest the behaviour of the language bar. I’m struggling to understand why GW2 needs to affect the language bar in any way at all; I don’t care if the program needs to have the keyboard language loaded while it’s running. It shouldn’t need to permanently change the registry or change the behaviour of the OS to leave the language bar in a different state to how it started before the game.

Wow that’s really odd try copying the game into a new folder and lunch the game from gw2.exe in the new folder instead of the desktop short cut. This might start the game without effecting the registry.
