GW2 graphics crashes
Win8 isn’t officially supported and video drivers might not be as polished. Try rolling back to previous versions if available.
Check your temperatures (See Part 4.1 or 5.1 for tools)

Video drivers are fine in 8, don’t listen to guy above. Windows 8 also uses practically the same kernel as 7 so there wouldn’t be any compatibility issues with the OS (as many people play GW2 on it without problem).
When you installed the driver update, did you go to advanced and remove the previous drivers first? Not doing so could create problems like you’re describing. If not, uninstall the drivers completely and reinstall the latest ones again.
If that doesn’t help, download HWINFO and use it to monitor the temperatures of your new card.
I noticed from your DXDIAG that you have 4GB of RAM but you’ve installed 32bit Windows 8 – you can’t use all of your RAM and that won’t help performance at all. I’d recommend doing a clean install with 64bit.
The other possibility after that is, barring any conflicting programs running in the background (badly configured SweetFX?) is that the GPU is damaged and needs to be replaced.

Keyword is “might” from above. Win 8 might use the same/similar driver model etc as 7, but that doesn’t mean there can’t be small difference. Who knows what nvidia/amd or what not changed in their drivers that is slightly different.

except that the os has been out for months and is fully supported by both companies.
When i said win8 isn’t officially supported its meant by Gw2 Anet.

Sigh.
Look, if you’re not up to par with technical stuff, don’t attempt to help in a tech support forum, please?
kirito and ZaxanRazor,
I want to thank you both. Both of you gave me some great info. It took me 2 hours just to find my product key and figure out how to get windows 8 64 installed over 32 bit, but I finally figured it out. I am currently installing 64bit as we speak. On the GW2 support thread I did see that 32 bit does have a tendency to crash on bigger ram systems. I always wanted to upgrade to 64bit anyways.
Hopefully I don’t have a video card issue. I do need to figure out how to tell how hot my card is getting. I have MSI but I couldn’t find any temperature settings there.
Anyway, thanks.
I’ll keep everyone posted in case someone else has same issue.
zax, yea cause windows 8 has no bugs. amirite?
Looking at the hardware I don’t see any problems. Considering the nature of the problem and that I know the hardware works fine in windows 7, I would point at windows 8 as the culprit. Normally I might entertain the idea of the card overheating, but usually that does not wait till you zone to crash..and when it crashes it takes out the whole computer (hard lock, reboot).
After today’s first patch I was getting the disconnect error and crashing to the character screen. Since the second patch to fix this problem now my entire system is rebooting upon loading into an area. I have checked the Nvidia control panel and all seems fine. I have launched Diablo 3 and it runs fine. Any ideas?

I finally was able to load the game by setting the graphics to best performance. Going to order a new vid card rather than chase down elusive bugs :/
On my system it was definitely the Windows 8 32 bit that was causing my crashes. After reinstalling the 64 bit versions crashes stopped. I played in wvw for 3 hours with no crashes on full graphics. (some lag due to using really old drivers 302.xx)
I updated graphics drivers but when I uninstalled 3d vision my monitor started turing on and off indefinetly. So I reinstall drivers with 3d vision on this time and I still have the glitch. is 310.xx no working in windows 8?
EDIT: fixed it. had to do a windows restore.

It seems that after one too many crashes the game did a “repair” that lasted quite some time and since then it has been running fine. XX fingers. Still, I have already sent for a new system. Christmas is coming way early this year
