GW2 only for 64-bit OS
guild wars 2 is a 32 bit application and can only address up to 3.2 in accordance to Microsoft specs.
Limiting the amount of ram an application to use is a very bad idea. Essentially you are telling the computer that you are better at managing ram than the developers who design and maintain the OS.
Guild wars 2 I believe uses at least 2.5-3 GB of ram. Anything less will cause massive slowdowns due to swapping. I believe it is not running because the program crashed due too much swapping
@loseridoit.2756 you belive but its not true I have 32-bit and GW2 is not working now.
Belive is not facts
the future is x64 OS, despite the client is x32 based. that’s the only way to run Guild Wars 2 well.
welcome to the future.

I buy game on 32-bit OS
Welcome to the bussines.
Did they tell you that your processor is 64bit capable, and that you should install a 64bit OS? If so, you would be wise to listen to them, because they told me the same thing when I got crashed to desktop every 5 minutes. Haven’t Crashed since.

processor is being x64 capable, not motherboard.

It was privet sugestion but I use my computer not only for game.
I have WinXP 32-bit and he tald me “upgrade Win 7 32-bit to 64-bit”.
GW2 is a 32bit app which is large address aware which means it can access in excess of 2 GB of RAM. Even with LAA, a 32 bit OS limits any application to only 2GB of RAM. The remaining RAM is designated for the OS. There are commands you can run to change the kernel requirement to be lower but I wouldn’t recommend it as it can make your OS unstable. That said, afaik GW2 will run on a 32bit OS. Try stopping any background/unneeded services and applications that would eat up additional RAM. Also, as loseridiot stated, swapping comes into play using your page file. If you have little hard drive space then your page file is going to be limited and possibly not be enough to account for the lack of available memory.

no its not all problems is after upg/2012-11-13

With a 32bit OS the max supported memory is 4GB. Anything above 4GB is not even seen and just a waste. That said, I stated that GW2 is a 32bit app that is caapable of running on a 32bit OS. Capable of running doesn’t mean it will run, there are many variables that come into play.
Regardless, I and others offered you information and possible solutions to your issue. It’s up to you whether you want to accept this help or not.
wait, what ?
i use windows xp 32bit and i played normally.
does this patch force me to change to windows 7 64 ?
now you play normally on 32-bit windows xp ?

No. GW2 is still a 32bit application.
now in this moment you can play in GW2 on Windows XP 32-bit OS ?
i cant play, i cant log in
after starting the launcher it freezes there and im force to close it with the task manager and after that i tried to use skype and it says that i have too little memory to use skype. Seems that gw2 stills use the memory after closed. :S

Check your processes in Task Manager and see if the GW2 client is still running. It’s possible that even though you force closed the client, the executable is still running.

after kill process in task menager you need restart computer to normal work
I’m having a similar issue since patching, stuck on black screen, have to end task and restart to get my pc running normally.

welcome ;P
computer is not only for GW2 and I need my OS
BTW if I know GW2 is only for 64-bit OS I just dont buy but I buy game for 32-bit and if GW2 is not longer support
on 32-bit then I want my mony back its easy. You seem to have missed a key point. See below:
“crashes you are experiencing are the result of a known issue between Windows 32-bit Operating Systems and certain
Nvidia cards”So you can still play using 32 bit systems. But the combination with that an certain Nvidia cards causes the problem.
Which cards cause the conflict, I have no idea. But this has been going on since Beta. Some people were able to fix this
by throttling back their Nvidia card speeds a little.
I’m sorry Zgroza but (as Smooth Penguin already tried to explain) you seem to have drawn a false conclusion. The only thing said in the post you’re referring to is about a specific combination of certain Nvidia cards and a 32-bit OS. In no way has that post confirmed or
even implied that gw2 is now 64 bit only.

Im w8 3 days for resolution this problem and we see then what is problem.
But my conclusion is from e-mail from support
“This error is given due to the limitations of the 32-bit operating system. I understand your frustration, however your choices would be to either upgrade your Windows from 32-bit to 64-bit or you can also try removing a stick of RAM from your system and then retest Guild Wars 2”
I remove RAM to limit for OS 32-bit first to 3GB next to 2GB. And I cant play. Secend resolution is upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit.
Before upg 2012-11-13 I dont have problem with playing with 2GB,3GB,4GB,6GB RAMS
What conclusion ?

This has nothing to do with Nvidia cards. A friend of mine on a trial account is having the same problem. He has an ATI card and 32 bit XP.
He was playing before the patch today. He had to log out for the update. After his client updated he was unable to get past the launcher. The game doesn’t start.

Possible this issue has nothing to do with using a 32 bit version though?
My girlfriend has the same issue right now. Had the typical 32-bit out of memory crashes before the patch, now the client won’t start at all. She’ll probably stop playing if we don’t find a way around it (and no, reinstalling the operating system is not an acceptable solution). She has Windows XP 32 bit. Tried using the /3GB switch, didn’t make any difference.

Mony back + mony for waist time in game
To be honest I would prefer something that would make it work
cant they remove the patch ? a link to something to remove it and let us play while they fix it ?

I have this problem for 3 days after 2012-11-13 and they do nothing with this.
I have 2 sugestion from support
1. limit RAM to limited OS – and I limit my RAM to 3GB
2. change OS 32-bit to 64-bit
first I do secend I cant do.
I w8 3 days and AN probobly is not interestning make fix

you buy game and servers are full then AN dont need you now

I’ve been playing the game for about 80 hours with no sign of running out of memory, then can’t even get into the game after the latest update. Considering my OS has been the most stable it’s ever been, reinstalling it is unacceptable at this point for me too.
Whatever that latest update did has screwed things up big time and could spell the end of me playing it. Oh well, at least I’ll get more sleep.
Very annoying though.
I found a fix for me… Deleted the local.DAT file in my gw2 root folder. This resets your settings to default. Got in right away after.

This worked for me as well, nice find Robber.

Thing that annoys me is if Anet knew that it was going to be borderline from the beginning on 32-bit RAM limitations, why did they even bother to put 32bit on minimum requirements?
Secondly, if they know this is a problem with 32bit systems(which they do because support have said that know) why dont they actually post and acknowledge the issue, rather than letting us sit here hoping that they will do something about making it work on 32-bit systems, like it should.
Thirdly, if they arent actually actively trying to fix the problem, tell us so that we can either upgrade to 64-bit or get our money back, rather than sitting here and waiting for something thats not gonna happen.
A little bit of feedback from their end would be the respectful thing to do, considering many people have barely been able to play since the post-halloween patch over 2 weeks ago.
ok last update + delete local.dat from main GW2 dir help

ahh they optimize the ram usage. During the beta and release it went to 2.3 GB easily + they had this texture bug that caused it to retain in ram although the settings had changed
I’ve been having this problem aswell for quite a while. I’ve tried reducing my ram but it did not work. Is there any solution to this problem other than changing to a 64 bit os? I’ve already updated my drivers and have limitted the amount of processes that run in the background. A friend of mine has a 32 bit os aswell and he has no problems. What else can I do?
Based on the system requirements, I should be able to play this game fine but obviously there’s something wrong.
if you’re that bent on using a 32bit os, patch the kernel to enable 36bit pae and hope your drivers are friendly with it.
I figured out how to fix the bug and worked with me was something very simple I just put the gw2.exe to run as administrator and in compatibility mode with windows xp sp3, worked perfectly and then I quit the game and removed the compatibility mode and continue to operate normally.

sorry for bad english because I used the translator.
You know… why dont you just ‘acquire’ Windows 7 64bit and be done with it -.-

GW2 is a 32bit app which is large address aware which means it can utilise up to 4GB of virtual address space.
Fixed that for you
Even with LAA, a 32 bit OS limits any application to only 2GB of Virtual Address Space.
also there.
Try stopping any background/unneeded services and applications that would eat up additional RAM.
All virtual address spaces are isolated (excluding sharable space utilised by DLL’s)
Applications running in the background will not impact the user address space limit.
