So I just noticed this today, but it may have been going on for longer. In Lion’s Arch, my CPU is consistently using over 90% of my CPU , even with the clock speed at 4.64. That’s crazy. It’s usually at 100%, but it lowered when I alt-tabbed out to take the screenshot. Has anyone else seen this happen? I lowered my graphics settings to the minimum, but the usage still above 80%. I have no other task open that take more than 2% of my cpu, so this is pretty absurd.

But using upwards of 100% of a cpu clocked at 4.64? I think that’s a little steep even if it’s cpu bottlenecked game. I guess I should also add that it’s an i5-3570k.

Your system is but what about the gw2.exe process? Is that also near 100%?

Isnt it good that game utilizes +90% of the horsepower your cpu can output? What ur saying game should use 50% instead and BE unplayable in Every area?

Everything whats not in use is just waste of power.

On default GW2 tries to output as many frames as it can. Normal behavior

If you dont want your cpu usage to be at 90% all the time then use a frame limitor

My i5-4670K at 4.6Ghz/5.1Ghz on ultra settings will sit at 90%-95% CPU usage in LA looking at the Forge on a busy night.

its just normal….

Do you (and possible the OP) have multithread disabled?

Its normal for i5’s.

Hi

I had a similar though not as bad thing happen to me at one of the patches last summer, then it went away with a subsequent patch.

The screenshot you posted, as stated by others, is of your system resources used, not GW2 resources used. You may want to check out individual processes running while this happens.

Here are some suggestions and things I have done on my end to help things along:

- Disabled Core parking very important – Win 7.xx and Win 8.xx have a bugged core parking feature which is by default enabled. While GW2 does not use multiple cores beyond 2nd a little bit, it helps because you can have the game run on 1 core while system on another and background apps on yet another. What happens now is cores get parked, and fail to re-initialize when called to do so, but falsely reported as such. If you disable core parking completely you will eliminate this possibility. To do so requires a manual registry edit of 3 keys. I forgot which they are, but you can just google “Diable Core Parking” Windows 7, Windows 8

- Disable auto updates, and auto scans. Not just windows but other apps. List GW2 exec as a trusted file in your virus scanners, firewalls. Important note : many, but not all, virus scanners and firewalls consider each patched version of the game a different file, which it is, thus it is necessary to recheck and relabel them as trusted files.

- Disable windows auto-updates and auto-repair (such as checking for system problems etc.), many times the system will start defrag or some sort of scan when the game is playing.

- Check CPU temp and make sure it is not overheating. You can get some nice software from various sources for this purpose. Run GW2, let it do its errors or whatever it does, check temps when it happens, compare.

- Open your case, reseat your CPU, RAM, GPU and any respective cooling devices, may need to apply or re-apply paste.

If you are oveclocking, you need to make sure that your system can handle the data flow, not just going in, but return data as well, so you may want to look at other components.

Also, not sure which OS you are running and with what exact settings in this regard, but there have been some similar problems reported for Windows 8.xx, especially after latest updates and not just for GW2 but games in general, may want to look into that.

this is what i was leading up to, But im positive squish knows about core parking.

I prefer this FREE core parking program:
