GW2setup.exe disappears after 10607kb
You are definitely having issues. Sadly, I don’t understand some of them so I won’t be too much help, but I still wanted to point you at some possible issues. It seems like your system isn’t passing the self-check.
1. What video card are you running? This diagnostic is listing some generic display chip that isn’t capable of much. You may need to download the latest drivers and get them installed.
2. The diagnostic generated some plug and play errors and “signature” errors. I’m really not sure about those though… But this definitely shows you having problems.
I’m hoping another pc savy person pops on here for you to help you figure this out.
Let’s fix the driver issues first.
You have the wrong display driver – it’s just the generic Microsoft Windows 8 driver. You need to get the correct one from the manufacturer’s website. This is an Asus laptop correct? Just go to the site and search the model number for the available Windows 8 drivers:
http://support.asus.com/download/options.aspx?SLanguage=en&type=1
The only listing I can find for the [graphics] driver file that is causing an error (C8153458.INF) seems to be related to a program called “DriverAgent”. If you are using that, I recommend that you uninstall it – most of those driver updater programs are junk (with the exception of Driverpack Solution).
Anyway, installing the driver from the Asus website should resolve the GPU driver problem, then we can go from there. It might be a good idea to get ALL of the other drivers while at the Asus site, just in case other ones are wrong.

This is actually not an Asus laptop, it is a desktop that I just recently built and here are the specs
Radeon HD 7790
Asus M5A97 LE R2.0
AMD Phenom II Black Edition 3.4 GHz
I’m about to try updating drivers and see where that gets me. I thought I had done it after installing a new harddrive and starting from scratch again but apparently I missed at least one. Thanks!
Alright so after installing all of my drivers I cannot get my Radeon HD 7790 driver to update. No matter what I do, Windows 8 only recognizes the “Microsoft Basic Display Adapter”. Any ideas how to fix this?
Did you try this driver?

If so, try and re-seat the video card (remove it and re-insert it). Also, double check that it’s in the correct PCI-E slot and that the GPU power cable is connected tightly.

Just curious but without an on-board video card would I not be getting any picture if it were installed incorrectly?
Not necessarily. It’s possible that some connections aren’t complete and you will still get a picture. I’ve seen strange things like this, but it doesn’t happen very often.
That would be something I would try.
Of course, the card could be defective, but I would only consider that after trying everything else.

That log you posted earlier is not picking up any 7790. You might want to make sure it is properly connected with any external power and in the proper PCI-e slot. The log shows you using something that looks like some onboard motherboard graphics. The motherboard should know to let a discrete card take over when it is properly installed, so there shouldn’t be a need to change any settings in BIOS. It is never harmful to look in BIOS though just to make sure.
Chloe (Version 3):
[i7 930 @ 4.1Ghz (1.3875V) w/Cooler Master 120M][Gigabyte G1 Gaming GTX 970 (stock)]
So I just removed the 7790 and put it back in.. tried to install again and AMD Catalyst gave me this:
“Installation complete (warnings occurred during installation). View Log for details.”
Log is attached below
Attachments:
The warning says:
“Error: user must be a member of the Administrators group”
Try the install again, this time right-click the file and choose “Run as Administrator”.
That message is in reference to installing the driver, so you don’t need to re-install the software – just choose to install the driver only.

I already tried that and no luck as well. I’m trying to re-install my mobo drivers/chipset and going to see if that helps. Thanks for all of your help so far!

You are likely going to have to continue having this issue. If anything I’d use AMD’s auto-detect tool to download and install the latest AMD drivers for your card. If anything you might want to consider a clean install as well to rule out corrupt drivers.
Alright so I used the AMD Driver Autodetect and it noticed my HD 7790! I downloaded the correct driver and installed and at the end of the install an error came up insisting that my user was not an Administrator. So I go into the folder to which the Autodetect downloaded the setup and I ran this as an Administrator. This still did not work. I am prepping for a clean install. Hopefully this will help my problems
EDIT: To clarify, after running as administrator, the install finished with no errors but the device manager still shows Microsoft Basic Display Adapter
