Q:

I haven’t played GW2 in about 2-3months, so when I fire it up, the client needs to update.

It says I got to download 19k files, and then starts the download, then at abour 3-5mb the download stops and speed decreases to 0kb/s, and then I can’t close it or click on anything on the client – the client crashes, I have to open Task Manager and force it to close, and I can see that it is using alot of process power, so there is a problem.

Things I tried:
- appending -repair to the target of shortcut, this checks all 280k files but then when it starts to download problem persists
- Run as Administrator (also changed compatibility in properties.
- Turned of AV and whitelisted GW2
- Changed language of client (was told it may help)
- Changed DNS to Google DNS, also flushed my dns before that.

so ya none of that worked. And I can’t delete 20gb of data to redownload another 21gb, my ISP has a 30day threshold on usage and will soft cap me for 3-5 days, so no internet, which defeats the point. Also, I seriously dont understand how a game like this can have such a crappy issue with its game client; making players redownload full game from scratch because of a badly scripted game client just seems unfair.

Hmmz, the client stops for some time with downloading and you force close it? And then it crashes? Seems legit, no..

Might be best to investigate how come the download drops at around that time.. If you open your eventviewer / networking, do you see any out of the ordinary at the time of the drop? Are there any processes hogging your CPU? …. ?

after client starts to download, about 20seconds, it gets to roughly 3-5 mb, then it just stops/crashes, and it wont close, I have to force close it with task manager.

I opened up the event viewer like you said; at launch it spikes to around 30% and then drops immediately and sits at a low level while downloading, as it stops downloading it spikes up to 40% CPU usage and stays there.

I made sure all other processes were closed, I only have GW client, not even AV to make sure its not blocking it.
