Help, I am unable to do the living story, whenever I click story journal on my warrior [Dark D Demetrius], the whole game crashes.
I dont have this issue on other characters.

I have the same problem with my thief [Wintereyes]. Other characters seems fine .. I can enter story journal (however, they are at the begining of living story 2).

same issue im also on a warrior can click it fine on my other toons.i had completed all current content in living world part2 freezes started today after the patch. Game locks up my task manager says its not responding. Im unable to even shut gw2 down it locks up the desk top by bleeding thru(the game cursor continues to show) so you cant terminate the process using task manager forced to log off my windows account and log back on to stop gw2 Characters name is Nerlika

Not sure if my issue is related to that, but whenever I try to start the first instance of Tangled Paths I get disconnected with connection error 5 or 9 at random, I see the loading screen then bam white wall plus error code…. Is anyone else experiencing this same issue?

Same bug. And couldn’t load the first new story part before, just kept loading, so I had to restart my computer.

Same issue, multiple times, clicking story journal will crash the client when trying to replay on a different character. On my guardian.

ok i found out that i have the problem only with my main char, with other char on same account it works, strange

ON another character with active other mission from journal, I can open it. But on every one where non mission is active game crashed.

After extensive testing and trying to troubleshoot I’ve done the following to attempt to remedy this issue:

• Have used the -verify parameter on the shortcut’s target path to start the .dat repair protocol, twice.
• Have gone to lowest possible graphics (including animations) and stripped down my main [Sable Nicholétte] of her armor.
• Have tried other characters – Confirmed to be okay on [Anya Terrastance] without needing to alter anything.
• Have tried removing all mail (including quest related)
• Have tried going into the newest quest instance “Return to Camp Resolve” with a friend hosting.
• Tried opening the Menu in Divinity’s Reach, Lion’s Arch and The Silverwastes.

From this I’ve gathered the following information about this situation.

• My active quest seems to be “Echoes of the Past” having hunted achievements., I’ve found this out using the following method. ¬
• Quest Menu can be opened in a story instance, however you cannot change active quests in an instance.
• Methods of reducing graphics, removing armor, moving to different areas and deleting mail have been ineffectual.
• This only effects my character [Sable Nicholétte], character [Anya Terrastance] can use the menu freely.
• Verifying the .dat file hasn’t turned up any successful changes.
• Attempting to open the Quest Menu locks and freezes the client totally, making a forceful exit/forcefully ending the process the only way to close the client.
• All issues took place after latest patch (as of 18/11/2014 – 19:05 GMT)

Will give more details if desired or discovered.

I also am having this crash.. when I go to Story Journal in the Hero menu game freezes. If I alt+tab I can see other windows that I have open, but I cannot interact with them. I have to ctrl+alt+del and end GW2 task to be able to use my computer. I tried doing the -repair on opening, still fails. Also, this only happens on my main character, not my alts.

I logged in for the first time after today’s patch installed, saw in-game chat regarding this issue, and clicked on the Story Journal icon myself to see if I could get to the new chapter in the story. Game stopped responding, so I’m posting here. I’m using the Mac client.

Thank you for the reply, I neglected to mention that in my earlier post.

[Sable Nicholétte] is currently on “Victory or Death”.
The other character I had attempted the hero menu with and succeeded was [Anya Terrastance] who had fully completed her personal story.

I am also having this issue on my mesmer only. All other characters have been able to open the story journal without an issue. I tried repairing and deleting the cache, neither of these steps resolved it.

My mes is on the beginning of today’s episode Tangled Paths. My ele is also on this same spot yet does not crash, my necro has completed it and can open the journal without any problems. Necro and ele can both start the episode with any trouble.

Mesmer is my only character on “Victory or Death”.

Update: instead of going to the Story Journal via the Hero panel, I was able to get it working by clicking on the green story icon in the lower right corner right after I logged into my ranger.

Apparently you can’t quit Tangled Paths either? I selected it, then quit, and it won’t go away. I hate the story being in the upper right if I’m not currently working on it (and still wish there was a way I could fully turn it off without completing personal story on every character). Hoping for a fix on this as well when the other is, as it appears they may be related? Or does quitting even the newer parts not allow you to ever get rid of them without completing… as I don’t think ever checked that before. I was checking to see if it would crash. and appears for me to be no crash issue with or without personal story already active.

Curiosity gets you in trouble though… need to remember that!

I am currently on ‘Victory or Death’. I have tried both the Hero tab and double-clicking the green story icon, neither to success.

Same here! Logged into my main (guardian), accepted the green star on the side and selected the option to play later.

When I went into the LS panel I then went into Episode 5 first (because that was still active from doing achievements) and selected I wanted to quit playing that and I was aware I “might lose progress” in doing so.

This last message then greyed out and the game froze, with the exception of my mouse cursor and sound. Had to use my Task Manager to get out and then got a message from GW2 that the game was not responding with the option to close.

Now every time I try to go into the LS panel on this particular char, it’s an instant freeze. All my other characters are fine and I have done the story on one of them.

@ Paul Ella: the personal story level of this char is 80, Victory or Death, only the dungeon instance of Arah to do. My other chars have not even reached that personal story level.

Same for me, current PS is Victory or Death …

edit: looks all chars with that specific PS freeze for me.

Added info: my husband mains lvl 80 guardian and is on the same story step (Victory or death with only the dungeon instance remaining) and had no problems at all.

However, just now when I asked him to check this to be sure, he clicked in the top right hand green icon for his personal story… and it froze the game and the pc. After doing ctrl +als + del into task manager the mouse icon was still GW2 magnifier glass icon.

Game is crashing for me as well.

After updating, I open Story Journal to start ‘Tangled Paths’, but this is when I notice that ‘The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2’ was activate and unfinished even though I remember finishing it (the update for some reason activated it). I thought it was just a small bug, so I’ll finish ‘Tangled Paths’ and I guess refinish ‘The Dragon’s Reach: Part 2’ again. But after completing ‘Tangled Paths’, I try to open Story Journal and it just keeps crashing.

Like most of the others, main character (lvl 80 ranger) is on Victory or Death with only the dungeon instance left to do. I haven’t done any Living Story episodes yet.

I clicked the green star on login and said OK, because it wasn’t really clear that it meant stopping the personal story. Then I switched back to personal story, which is again showing active in the upper right corner, but now every time I open the Story Journal the whole game hangs and has to be killed off. If I don’t open the Story Journal everything seems to work, but I haven’t tried to do anything much yet.

Other lower-level characters on this account have no issues with Story Journal.

Glad you tweeted about this, I was worried my .dat file was corrupted and had started downloading the whole thing again. :/

Hello, I too am having the exact same issues. The game stops responding when I access my main lv80 Ele’s Tangled Paths story. She is on the Victory or Death – dungeon bit – personal story step. Hopefully a fix can be thrown in soon, as I was eager to play this new instalment.

I have the same issue with the game crashing when I click on the Story Journal on my 80 Ranger.

I am having the same problem. My main storyline is Victory or Death. Not done any part.
client locks up and freezes after pressing H and clicking on the story journal.

I have a level 80 ranger. Selected the green icon after patching, but opted to wait to start story until later. When I finally decided to do story when my friend signed on, the game froze when I went to select the story journal on my hero panel. My ranger is on Victory or Death. Was able to access the story journal on another level 80 character.

I’m glad I caught the link to this thread on G+ before I loaded up the game, the alt I’ve been doing season 2 with is on VoD.

On my mesmer on Victory of Death. Everything else works fine. Tried clicking on the story tab on two separate occasions and my entire computer ends up freezing. The only way to do anything is to hard close GW2 through the task manager.

Friend is also experiencing the same thing on his warrior and guardian.

My game seizes upon clicking on the star to open the story journal menu in the hero panel (H). Running Windows Home Premium 64bit. Ditto the above. I have to close the game by using Task Manager. Character is on Victory or Death in Personal Story.

I have two chars that are on “Victory or death” in their PS storyline. One freezes the game, the other not when i try to start Episode 6 from hero panel.

The one char that freezes GW2 now was in episode 5 for the achievement before I tried to switch to episode 6.

I have no idea what point i’m at because as soon as I click story journal the game freezes.

Warrior, also on Victory or Death, game freezes whether I click on top right to change story, or from hero pannel. Can’t do anything besides ctrl-alt-del and stopping the game in task manager.

I too feel the same … Arrange this error as soon as it is very serious that persists on the first day of an update.

To be honest, I think I remember having this problem like 6 months ago, but didn’t bother posting it because I took a 6 month break in playing. So I’m not sure if the problem is specifically this update.

I am also having this problem on my Elementalist main [Schaggsler] and I am currently on Victory or Death. I had also been in an instance of Echoes of the Past – Hidden Arcana when the update went live. My game restarted when I left the instance to apply the update, as expected.

I missed something in a dialogue after the 1st mission of the episode
So, stupid as i was, i quit the episode, thinking i could restart it. Once i comfirmed that i wanted to quit the episode. My screen freezes and becomes unresponsive. No matter how much i relog, i can’t go to story journal tab without getting a frozen screen again.
Now i can’t play through the story :/

It seems to be the “Victory or Death” Story Journal entry that causes the freezing.

I can view the Story Journal fine on my characters that have completed the Personal Story.
If my character has “Victory or Death” as the currently active story, the game freezes upon trying to access the Story Journal.
If my character has any of the previous Living Story active, I can access the Story Journal, but clicking on the uncompleted “Victory or Death” Personal Story entry will cause the game to freeze.

Same problem here. I’m at the last step of my personal story. When I access the Hero Panel to select the Living Story, the whole game locks up and I have to reboot the computer to get “unlocked”.

Right after this occurred is when my first lockup happened. All subsequent reboots, restarts of the game, and attempted access of my hero panel result in a full computer lockup.

Game freezes upon simply pressing H to access the H panel, on the character that has the Victory or Death personal story to do [[the Victory or Death had bugged with me and I never got credit for it….support told me I had to re-do it]]. So I am unble to look at anything available on the H panel. I did complete the current Living Story and was trying to complete the unlocked achievements……but game freezes. I am unable to even look to select something or view character equipment or anything that is available on the overall H panel.
