Q:

As the title suggest, my game client is crashing to the desktop during World Boss fights (usually near the end of the fight). Then when relogging in, I am placed in a low population server of that map. As I’m part of a party who is still in that map, I have the option to join them but because that map is now full I can’t until someone leaves (usually after the boss dies). And when I do reconnect, there are no chests even though I was there for the majority of it. If it happened once or twice, I would have let it go. Its happened too many times that its not funny anymore. Majority of cases occurs during Triple Trouble, Taidha Covington and Tequatl the Sunless though it has happened with other bosses. Reports have been sent after each crash yet nothing has been done.

In short, if you can’t fix the issue then at least give us a 3 or 5min opportunity to reconnect to the server with a reserved slot rather than have someone else take our place and reap the rewards for doing nothing.

Is ArenaNet aware of this issue?
If so, what is the status of this issue being resolved?

As the title suggest, my game client is crashing to the desktop during World Boss fights (usually near the end of the fight). Majority of cases occurs during Triple Trouble, Taidha Covington and Tequatl the Sunless though it has happened with other bosses. Reports have been sent after each crash yet nothing has been done.

I’d say they would be aware of it, yesterday during Taidha Covington the group got the gate down and started attacking her then down it went. I thought it was just me but when I logged back in it seems the whole lot of us got disconnected. It’s only been happening to me since the last patch and it’s getting really annoying as it is happening at least twice a day.

This happens to me in most world boss fights too. a few things -

1/ you are more likely to crash in larger fights. the more players, the more likely.

2/ a change of zone will make the next world boss more likely to be a crash event. eg if you start in that area, you are less likely to drop out, which points to a memory related issue instead of server/connection etc.

3/ connection does not seem to matter. two different connections on the same machine give the same result.

the problem can be worked around though buy joining a group before the event.

it is common now to see everybody grouping up for this very reason.

when in a group, you will remain with the server you were at before and will get the chests etc as long as you were not booted during the actual death. 90% of the time you will get the chest etc.

if you return to a different server but still in group (which has happened a few times to me), right click on one of the party members still at the correct event and click on join server. it will probably come up with ‘server is full’, but if you keep trying it will work.

@mobihci – you are right, it happens when the area is saturated with players. Putting number of players to render as low as possible in the past hasn’t help either. As mentioned in my previous post, I was in a party but when trying to rejoin the server after logout, I am stuck with the error saying that the server is full, please try again. So far I can confirm 100% of the time, unless upon hitting the boss when back in the original area before death, I have never received the chest. In my recent case, I was only able to get back in after the boss had died. There was a chest icon on the minimap but no chest – during tequatl, I was kicked out just after tequatl flies off and everyone is running back to the pads to defend the cannons for the 3rd and last time. You can see my frustration having got to the map 35mins early before the start of the boss and with the boss at 90% completion, I am kicked out without a way to return (due to map is full error) before the boss dies.

@slayerking. I also just remembered, one of my forced logouts happened just as jumped from the balcony towards the chest in taidha (after she had died). I logged back in (again I had a party luckily) and the chest was gone. I aint kidding, I was really kittened off that day. I laugh at it now but it wasn’t nice. However, the warnings were there. I received the error box asking me to send a report during the boss fight but the game was still running.

well, you do get a different report than me, but very similar results. maybe that is due to the different os.

i am running windows XP 32bit with 4GB ram, the results i get are out of memory errors eg-

an so on.

the amount of memory available for guild wars2 is 2GB being a 32 bit os, but guild wars2 never gets to that limit. it is the heap, so some sort of buffer (probably network related) that is requiring memory at a specific location and cant get it.

as a guess, in xp 32bit it probably translates as this crash, and on a 64 bit os like yours running the 32 bit app of guild wars2 it shows up as a memory can not be read error. being directly related to the network & memory usage, it is probably not video/audio etc driver though some settings on the video driver may change the memory allocation.

it will be interesting to see what others have to say about this issue, because it is annoying, though it is possible to play as long as you want without a crash if you stay out of the way of large events.

hmmm interesting. I mean looking at both reports, we both have more than enough system memory available. I did read somewhere that GW2 is built for 64bit but its a 32bit program and won’t be available in 64bit. Yeah, I can report no crashes in low-md population areas but with high, I’m at the edge of my seat wondering if I can last long enough to finish it.

Ok I can confirm the game crashed before loading into sparkly fen 15 mins before teq however when I did get in the map, it was reported as full by others. It must be a population issue.

I did a little more testing on this problem.

my XP would report 3.25GB available ram and being set normally it would limit gw2 to 2GB ram, so i tried accessing a little bit more ram by using the relocate ram hole in the bios to above 4GB and set the 3GB switch in the boot.ini file. I installed another 4GB ram (total of 8GB) so there would be no problem.

the result- no different. too many people in one area and world map changes too often would crash.

i had win 8.1 64bit available, so i installed a dual boot on the same system.

win 8 64bit with all the same hardware and the same copy of guild wars 2 directory without any modification (gw2 transports well from anywhere to anywhere) and no more crashes.

I believe it still does run out of memory though, just that it recovers some somehow. eg after a few world bosses, the game would become a bit sluggish for a while, then recover. at one time it stalled and gave HEAVY lag like 5 sec delay between button press and action, but this cleared up. i dont know if that is related, but i had never experienced that on the XP os.

i did a bit of a check on your error report and in one instance it shows your card as having 1GB ram, then not so long after the same card (or what looks like the same card) with 4GB ram. did you upgrade the card somewhere along the way?
