a virtual address space hang is software exception(crash to desktop or escapable by task manager), not a system exception (freeze/bsod)
A system freeze would be hardware wize for the most part.
Right, I would imagine Windows would be able to catch software-level exceptions, even if there were a memory leak of some sort. Not sure as to why the entire system halts when playing GW2. This has never happened with other games/software that I use.

GW2 is a fair bit heavier then most other games
its kind of like running pre 1.4 skyrim except it can use multiple cores.
Actually its a thin client setup, not a heavy client. Most of the graphics and sound are stored client side.

No
By default, my graphics settings were all in the mid-range, some in the high-range. My computer was able to produce graphics in this range without degraded performance or slow frame rate. However, I have suffered from multiple sudden crashes 30 minutes into the game. I have since turned all of my graphics to the lowest possible settings. Voila, I am able to play for hours without a single crash. I have determined that either my graphics card cannot sustain long-term mid- to high-end performance without crashing, or there is something seriously wrong with my hardware that I was not previously aware. Anyone have knowledge with troubleshooting techniques to see why this is the case?
In any case, I am fine with playing the game with low settings, as I do not think that superb graphics is necessary for the gaming experience. My rig is about two years old, and by Moore’s Law it is probably outdated for this game. But, I will be looking for a gfx card upgrade for the long term. Any suggestions?
