Hey everyone, I just built a new gaming PC after selling my old one a few weeks ago and have been having a lot of fun with it. I can max out any game 60+ FPS with ease, but for some reason GW2 gives me a problem.

My Specs are as follow:

i5 3570k @4.4 GHz
SAPPHIRE Radeon HD 7870 GHz Edition 2GB
8GB 1600 RAM
Crucial M4 128GB SSD + 1TB Samsung F3

I bought GW2 and wasn’t expecting any FPS problems but I am only getting 20FPS maxed out. I am playing 1920×1080.

Any help would be very nice!

Turn reflections to Terrain And Sky. ‘All’ is sort of bugged.
You may also want to turn super sampling down to Native, u’d likely need more than a 7870 to run Supersampling with good fps since its not very efficent (looks great though) ..it effectivly doubles(or some otherm ultiplier) the rendering resolution increasing the power required to run it substantialy.

Also note that GW2 wil lstill drop to around 30 fps in certain situations like heavy WvW fights. .thats down to the CPu ..and not even the best OC’d CPU;s out atm can manage much better than a minimum fps figure of 30.

You have got to much crap running in the background. What anti virus are you using uninstall it and use windows security essentials disable any IMs if this doesn’t help you might have to reinstall you OS

I’m just running Avast, and Catalyst Control Center, and occasionally Skype. Fresh install of 7 so no problems there.

There is something wrong with your system OS settings. Processes?

I’ve built my friend a system spec below:

i5 3570k @ STOCK
AMD 2GB HD6970 @ STOCK
16GB RAM @ STOCK
128GB SDD

He can run GW2 in Automatic setting for 40-50FPS (~45FPS average) and everything on his system is stock without overclocking. His resolution is at 2560 × 1440p.

Hence, you have it overclocked, a more powerful GPU and at 1080p stuck at 20FPS. There is definitely something wrong.

This is just to point that people don’t post about CPU bottleneck or whatsoever.

It’s not ODD to me lower your settings reflections, and shadows this is not the other games so dont compair them. Make sure you have the latest version of directX 9 you can get that at MS web site. Make sure your video card is running at X16 speed.

Is your GPU in the second PCI-E slot? If so, please install on the first slot (primary).

Check ur motherboard manual ..make sure ur GPU is in the x 16 slot.

it might be ur problem but i stil lthink u shuld change ur ingame settings.

Click the ? next to where you see that it should do a short test it could be just saving power. But it could be installed in the wrong slot or have other issues as you never stated your motherboard. But yes running @ x4 will for sure kill this game. or check it while you are in the game.

My 6970 shows X16 always.

I’ll switch out the GPU to another slot tomorrow and let you guys know the result.

That right there is the issue. It should be running at x16 so you either have it in the wrong slot or maybe mobo is damaged.

or maybe the slot and fingers on the card need cleaning with isopropyl.
