So every time I start up GW2, it asks me to repair, which I usually ignore, because the game runs fine without the repair and it takes 20-30 minutes. But a couple times I did run the repair, which only verifies and repairs 1 folder out of the 270 000.

1—> Crash <—
“Assertion: A file was corrupted in the archive. Please run once with ‘-repair’!
File: ..\..\..\Game\Main\MainCli.cpp(588)
App: Gw2.exe " etc.

But now I fired up GW2 and I have to re-download the entire game, all 270 000 files. I have no other copies or GW2 on my laptop, any help would be nice to see whats going on and I doubt GW2 has been corrupted as all the files are still intact. Thanks.

Launch the game with -repair amended to the shortcut.

Sounds like the game’s .DAT file isn’t getting closed cleanly and whatever file(s) inside the .DAT are locked out when this happens, get damaged.

Also, when you do what sirsquishy.8531 suggested; right-click the GW2 shortcut and choose ‘Run as Administrator’ – even if your profile has administrator privileges.

I’ve done all those things, and still get the error.
It’s deff something on anets side.

No, its going to be something with your PC. Anet doesnt inject anything in the .dat file while playing. that is done during the Launchers update process. So Anet can’t corrupt files from their end unless its done during patching.

This would point to a anti-virus solution, infection, bad HDD, or bad RAM then anything else.

Run -repair again, and see if different files show up in the crash log.

if its the same file each time, then I would do a sector scan on your HDD to make sure there are no bad sectors (you can read SMART data and see if there is any data in the sector reallocation field for a quicker reference.).

If its different files each time, Try playing with your Anti-virus solution disabled (or add an exception to the .dat files location in your AV Scanner’s Engine). And then if that still fails follow up with a memory test.

Download Memtest86+, youll want the ISO, Download and Burn. then run the Memtest86+ for 24-36 hours and see if there are any Memory Mapping Errors.

I’m Willing to bet this issue is going to be one of these 3 root causes.

Also, make sure Gw2.exe, Gw2.tmp and Gw2.dat are not set as ‘Read Only’ in their properties. This setting could cause many problems during launch, update, pre- and post-repair, as well as it now wanting to re-download the whole game again as the file(s) could not be written to. If any of those were marked as ‘Read Only’, un-check ‘Read Only’ and re-run the repair shortcut.

Read Only – only applies if you are not an administrator.

Take a look at other files on your system. Although they will be ‘read only’ you can still modify or delete them on an account that has admin privileges.

Correct you can modify or delete them on an administrator account, I’m talking about the game being able to modify them. Several things could prevent the game from being able to modify them despite being run with an administrator user.
