Guild Wars 2

Hi! So I have two issues, but let’s start with my specs:

OS: Windows 8.1
GPU: AMD HD 7950
CPU: i5-3570k OC @ 4.4 ghz
RAM: 8 GB DDR3
Storage it’s on: 120 GB SSD

So one, Guild Wars 2 crashes a ton for me. It crashes in various ways – most of the time, it just freezes, and I have to ctrl + alt + del and end it. Sometimes, the program will just close instantly and tell me that Guild Wars 2 has suffered from a “fatal error” – on rare occasion I’ll get a blue screen of death. Does anyone know what could be causing my crashing?

Also, I get a mild stutter everytime I walk into a new area or turn my camera around really fast. I thought it might’ve been my HDD bottlenecking me, but I still have the issue with the game on an SSD. Any tips for reducing this? It’s not a dealbreaker but if I could fix it it’d be nice.

Oh, and forgot to mention: I have a 120hz monitor. Hope that’s not an issue.

Are all your drivers updated video card, motherboard chipset, sound, and network if so then it’s something wrong with Windows 8 just to let you know Anet is not supporting Windows 8 at this time so good luck the best advice I could give you is downgrade to Windows7 64bit.

Sorry, I’m not downgrading to an inferior OS just because Arenanet is either too lazy or too incompetent to support Windows 8. Any legitimate tips?

The amount of crashes I am getting is making the game nearly unplayable! I just had 6 in the past 20 minutes. Please halp.

Now it seems to have gotten worse after I updated my drivers. I can’t get past the character select screen. Here’s a crash report:

Are you running the game as an administrator? That is common for this error:
“VerifyAccess failed or denied access with 0×80070716 – 1”

Could also have memory issues or your GFX card maybe dying. Since Vista, the Windows Kernel is designed to protect hardware from applications. Usually BSOD is going to be a driver issue or a hardware issue.

Some other things you can try:

1) Scan windows to check for corruption using “sfc /scannow” command

2) Update/repair your DirectX (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35)

3) Make sure your windows is fully up to date.

GW2 doesn’t crash for me, just stutters alot now. I haven’t played in quite a while (since last spring) and somewhere along the timeframe an update changed its performance. I didn’t change any graphics settings and the game ran great with everything maxed out before but now stutters until I turned down shadows and shaders and set effects LOD. I also went from an HD7850 1GB VRAM to a R9 280X 3GB VRAM which is a decent upgrade.

Also watching task manager, GW2 is still very heavy on 1 core and ~25% on the rest of the cores. By now I would’ve figured A.net fixed multithreading with this game, but I guess not.

I scanned windows, and it came up with nothing. DirectX thing said I already had the latest version. Running as an administrator did nothing, game still crashes. :/

Windows 8 is the inferior OS check the internet look at other gaming sites there a a lot of games having issues with windows 8. Microsoft just forced out the OS to make more money just like they did Window ME and vista 2 of the wurst version ever now it’s Window 8 time to join the craptastic OS ranks good luck with that while we all play this wonderful game on windows7 with no issues.
