Hey, I’ve been having this problem for the last few days. While playing, the sounds cut out from my game, though the background music keeps playing, and a few minutes after that it inevitably freezes. Sometimes it freezes so bad that I have to Alt-Tab and close it from the outside, sometimes it comes back in a few moments. It weird cause I’ve been playing GW2 for months now and this has never happened. Its making the game practically unplayable for me now. Does anyone have any idea why it’s happening?

My specs:
System: Intel
Pentium® Dual core CPU
2GB RAM
AMD Radeon HD 7700 series
Windows 7

2GB RAM

Not enough RAM for both GW2 and your OS. Add at least 2 GB more.

The ram is an issue, totally.

But what CPU do you actually have?
and what GPU do you have, the 7700 series doesnt tell us much. you could have a 7770, 7790, 7750….ect.
and windows 7 64bit or 32bit?

Until I upgraded to a larger monitor a month ago I had pretty much the same setup, (pentinum Dual 3.4GHz, HD7700), except with 8GB of Ram. It ran fine on the lower settings.

I do run it on low settings and its been running absolutely fine for the last 8 months. I’ll still look into updating my RAM since it’s about time.

Sorry, I’m not really a techie person so I didn’t really know what you meant by my CPU so I just copied all the info from DxDiag here.

I highlighted the issues with your system as they stand today.

Win7 32bit allows for 4GB of ram max. That accounts for system memory, Video Memory, and system resources in that 4GB max. You really need to upgrade to 64bit.

The other issue is ultimate. While that edition isn’t an issue directly, that leads me to believe you are running on a hacked version of windows 7. It is very rare to see such a system with Win7 Ultimate installed on it. Unless you paid 399 for the OS upgrade during the system purchase.

And the last issue is your memory. Your page file is using about as much ram as you have in the system. So you are swapping to that page file A LOT. You need to upgrade your RAM. You really don’t have a choice.

Which brings us back to the 32bit issue. Ideally you would want to get the full 4GB usable from your current OS. But with your GPU being a 1GB HD7770, you might not see more then 2.9GB~ total system ram. So even if you upgraded to 4GB RAM in your system, you would only see a 800-900MB upgrade due to that 32bit limit. Thus, you must also reinstall your OS to 64bit.

If your OS is legit, you can de-reg the license key, reinstall 64bit windows 7 Ultimate, and reactivate your key. If your Key is OEM (HP, Dell, IBM, Gateway…ect) then that key’s activation should be in your BIOS’s SLIC code. In which case, you MUST get the 64bit install disks from your OEM supplier.

But thats the root cause of your issue.

Hint: If you get hold of a Win7 64bit Ultimate or similar edition to your 32bit edition, you can install Win7 64bit using your license for the 32bit version. This is perfectly legal as long as you only use the license once at the same time.

Alternatively, download (legally even, because Microsoft themselves linked it!) the matching Win7 64bit ISO for burning here: http://answers.microsoft.com/de-de/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/wo-kann-ich-die-windows-7-iso-dateien/610a3a3c-e99c-42e6-8cf8-fda31127b035

that is only true for systembuilder and Retail CD keys.

if you have OEM, you cannot do that nor can you use MS’s supplied ISO media as thats for VLK and Retail/systembuilder keys only.

If you have an OEM version intended for the EU region, this is still true, due to the CURIA (Court of Justice of the European Union) legislation on OEM licenses. This method is also legal for CD Keys derived from the MS Dreamspark and MSDNAA program for academic use.

sure, but that’s not good for US based machines.
