Q:

I just upgraded my Windows 8 32 bit into 64 bit. I didn’t delete my previous files from my local disk C since I installed my new OS into another hard disk.

I copied and pasted my Gw2 from program files of disc C into my new hd.
question is: Will my GW2 still work? and if it does, would it use my 8gb ram now?

i would reinstall the game but move over the gw2.dat file into the newly install directory.

gw2.dat is the largest file in the directory. Copy it over and you only have to download the updates

First i wouldn’t install games under program files .. the rights there are often a little strange .. better create a new folder like c:\games or d:\games or whatever, and move your gw2 there.

Else .. no need for new install .. as a 32-bit application GW2 can use a maximum of 4GB memory under a 64-bit OS .. while 2 GB was max under 32-bit.

GW2 is a 32bit application. The Max Memory a 32bit application can allocate it 4.0GB. There is overhead with the wow64 binaries used to emulate the 32bit calls on 64bit, so the actual application memory usable area is between 3.5GB and 3.96 (depending on how said application is configured).

so GW2 will never be able to use 8GB of ram, unless they code a 64bit application for it.

Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD

However the remaining free memory can be used by the OS as disk cache to speed loading of previously fetched data from the gw2.dat file as well as containing the other programs that are running on your system while playing without necessarily forcing the game to “share” system memory.

What they said is you can just copy the gw2 files over to a new drive (preferably a new folder) and no, it can’t use most of your new system ram.

Not directly. It just has access to more system memory now that it doesn’t have to share with other apps or the OS and that can improve performance of not only the game but any other app you run.

It will upgrade your experience in the way that GW2 won’t constantly crash because of OOM errors.
