Went to do Ascalonian Catacombs earlier today (I think most or all of us were from TC in this case) and somehow we got a really broken instance: the entire party was getting lag and disconnects, in spite of being fine before we entered. I didn’t even notice anything weird out in the world after 1 disconnect and 1 restart of the router just in case, but upon returning to the instance it was just as bad as it had been before, both times. Eventually we had to just close it because it was impossible to play, and after replacing some people who went to sleep, we started a new one which worked fine.

I’m not really sure what that indicates exactly but something seemed pretty messed up and I don’t think it was on our end(s) given the way it was limited to that one instance.

My theory on some of the lag issues with Guild Wars 2 is due to server loads. Whoever starts the dungeon creates an instance of the dungeon on their home server. Then, everyone from the party essentially guests over to the creator’s home server when they hit the button to join them in the dungeon. This is why, when in the party with people in a dungeon, you hover over their portrait to check out their location, its always ‘CoF (Fort Aspenwood)’ if the person who entered CoF first (in the party) was on Fort Aspenwood. This is all back-end stuff not visually shown to the player because it would likely create questions like, “why can’t we guest on more than 2 servers (every 24 hours) if we can ‘guest’ when ever we do a dungeon with someone from a different server.”

There are certain servers I have lag/skill delay problems with, luckily my home server is not one of them, but when I’m doing certain things that are more efficient when being able to use three server’s spawns instead of just one, I find that some servers have skill delay and others don’t when I guest.
